Suggestions for a new read!!

I am begining to enjoy DC's vertigo imprints more than their regular runs.
I'd appreciate suggestions for good reads.

Lets see,I've read the first volume 1-50 of fables. Y:1-50 as well.
Quick question though, I've got the first 5 issues of DMZ. How many issues are there? Sandman, other than Sandman Presents all done. WE3 i've got the issues with me, haven't gotten around to them as of yet.

Animal is a legend in its own right,of course.

I liked American Virgin a bit more than Exterminators, but I didn't like either enough to get the next trades.

If you like Sandman, odds are that you'd like Lucifer. The first trade is a bit below par, but hang in there. It's an excellent series.

Preacher is really good as well, and so is Morrisons Doom Patrol. Both are collected in trades.

And if you can find the issues, buy Milligans Shade: The Changing Man series. It's magnificent!!!

Thanks for the suggestion, I've read Lucifer, but couldn't put it amid Sandman because i felt Mike Carrey picked at a scab for too long.

He's also done The Furies, a sandman special where i again felt he just kept pulling the same thread over and over again. But, in all it entirity, Lucifer was an excellent story.

Gran Morrison, I simply adore him. Will get myself around to Doom Patrol ASAP.

So, you could say I am generally on the lookout for good vertigo titles as my knowledge and my budget on the matter is limited.
After getting suggestions, I usually run a search on the title to get reviews and synopsis and buy accordingly.
Oh! Woe is us, if only we were conquerers of capitalism.:(

How about a variety, then? Looks like the Vertigo lists got pretty good coverage:

Girl Genius (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/) by Phil and Kara Foglio. Steampunk/Gaslight Fantasy based on the idea what would happen if Victorian-style Mad Science ruled the world mixed in with a healthy dose of humour. It started in print, then moved to the 'Web. Go the "The Comic" , the Advanced Class started where the print comics left off, but the GG101 is working its way through the printed versions so you won't miss anything. Also, the Foglios just published a black and white omnibus of the first ten issues (first three trades).

If you enjoyed the more mythic characteristics of Sandman, check out Book of Lost Souls J. Michael Straczynski and Colleen Doran. It's mostly been self contained stories about decision points within an encompassing overplot around the holder of the book. I like it a lot, and Doran's art is fabulous.

For a more intimate take on fairytales and fables, check out "Castle Waiting" by Linda Medley. It's more about what happens after happily ever after, but it's a much smaller cast and it's a more intimate story than Fables.

For spy/suspense/conspiracy try "Sleeper" by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips.

And now for something different: Loveless by Brian Azzerello

Its a western that takes place after the Civil War. Really captures the feel of the time, especially the way people talk and act.

Also deals with the aftermath of the war, race, politics, capitalism, etc.
Oh yeah, and plenty of people get shot! And some Southerners who don't believe the war is over.

The art is splendidly minimalist, uses shadows, shading. You can get the first trade for like 10 bucks.

Thank god there's someone on these boards who likes Loveless. I've got the TPB in my 'to be read' pile and the amount of hate for that book on these boards had me worried

I suggest picking up Sandman Mystery Theatre.

There's four trades out (The Tarantula, The Face and the Brute, The Vamp, The Scorpion) with a fifth (Dr. Death and the Night of the Butcher) coming out in April.

Also Sandman Midnight Theatre is reprinted in Neil Gaiman's Midnight Days.

Avoid the new "Sleep of Reason" series.
