This is the art that I painted for the cover of Hollow, a series picked up by Archaia Studios Press and due for publication in the fall of this year.
This would be the main character, Sam.

The image was made to print at 2' x 3', so obviously a lot of the detail in the watercolors are smoothed out.
This is a sketch that I colored and did the background for of Iris, one of the other major characters in the series. Duncan Eagleson, who pencilled for Sandman, The Witching Hour, Shade the Changing Man, did the pencils for this.

The whole series will be painted in a watercolor style. ^^

Looks lovely Reverend. Could you give a little synopsis on what the story will be about?

Thank you! The second one was not penciled by me, though, so I can't take the credit for that.

You're gifted!
I love the hint of "Classical Realism" you captured in the first pic.

I love the hint of "Classical Realism" you captured in the first pic.Thank you very much!
I was lucky enough to get into college-level art classes in my last few years of high school. I really dig neoclassical, renaissance, and classical realism, and the stuff I do more on my own tends to have more of it in there.
I really like the grunginess of the environment surrounding the beauty of the human form, and juxtaposing classical techniques and settings with modern elements. That sounds really pretentious, though. X:

I really like the look of your stuff. That first image especially has beautiful handling of colors, particualarly in the skin-tones.
Lovely stuff!

This is not comic art, but from my other art-related work. I make textures (skins) for 3D CGI models and this is my latest WIP. As you can see, the tail and the hooves still need work.

The original model, no textures (missing the mane, too):

I use a lot of the painting techniques that I use in 2d work for this (especially covers). The maps are ginormous, so it smooths out some of the rough detail, but the roughness is what gives it depth and realism.
I think that working on realistic stuff helps to keep one's talents sharp when working in comics, because the more you know about how the real world works, the more you know how to make and break artistic rules.

Simply awesome. Did you start from scratch, or did you have some sort of skeleton to base your work on?

Simply awesome. Did you start from scratch, or did you have some sort of skeleton to base your work on?Used photos for reference (the way the UV mapping is done, it's nigh-impossible to use photos as a base), but painted in deep paint 3d. Holy googly moogly, do I ever hate fixing seams.

Yet more CGI horse texturing. Hand-painting the mane and tail took four flipping days. x.x (I work hard for my money.)

I want me a freak-ass horse like this in rl. Obviously, I still need to finish the hooves!
This is with absolutely no post-production whatsoever. Zip, nada. Straight out of the rendering application.
