Thought I'd contribute to this forum by posting some of my drawings. I draw a lot in my spare time and dream of one day getting paid for it. I've been intending to to write a comic about super heros but I don't really have much time in between full-time study at university (plus I'm lazy). At the moment I'm concentrating on costumes and personalities of the characters.

So here's the first character, Saphiregirl

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v381/Panaman/Pict0155.jpg
I wanted her costume to combine the skimpiness of Wonder Woman's metal swimsuit thing with Catwoman's dominatrix suit. She also has a magic rope that can move at her command and stretch to any length and a magic green rock that can talk and gives her guidence.

This is an earlier costume design I did for her:

Heres a picture of Batman villian Killer Croc I based on Leonard McLean from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

and here's my re-design of Superman's outfit

Those are amazing! fantastic stuff! That cartoony strip is freaking fantastic! I love it!

And the first Saphiregirl sketch is great. I love the very real-world look of her. Sexy, yet she looks realistic. Not quite as idealized as most comic art.

And Killer Croc? Kick ass.

Yeah, I dig the cartoony stuff more too! :D But I must say the Croc pic's good!

Killer Croc's great, but I have to agree- I like the cartoony stuff best. It reminds me of a lot of indie comics. Have you ever considered that route instead of supers?

Thanks for your compliments, I'm pleasantly surprised that everyone seemed to like the cartoony one better. It's so much easier to do than realistic drawing, but I find it difficult to come up with ideas that suit that style. Still if anyone's interested I made a cartoony animation for one of my uni classes that can be seen here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xOH8dly0S-w The quality's not that great so I have to try uploading it again some time.

Anyway here's another drawing of Sapphiregirl (I spelt her name correctly this time).

Okay now I'm gonna write some profiles for these guys.

Sapphiregirl
Sophie was a bit of a non-entity prior to donning the SG suit. She was shy and didn't really get out much. Raised by strict conservative parents until she was 13 then sent to a religious all-girl boarding school in the city center, she developed rather simplistic ideas about good and bad. She spent a lot of her spare time attempting various activities in an effort to stand out and be noticed by others. These included joining the science club, raising dogs, singing and playing guitar (the school forbade dancing – which they deemed “titillating” - as well as sport). All of these failed for the most part due to lack of talent. That is until she witnessed the death of one of the cities most popular super-heroines, Sapphirewoman. With her dying breath Sapphirewoman told her that she must take up her talking green stone and magic lengthening rope and fight the war against evil. Unfortunately she died before being able to elaborate on the evil. Sophie then decided to become a super-hero mainly out of desperation at having nothing else to do and because she was surprisingly good at it. The talking stone sent her to Africa to receive martial arts training from Amazon warriors, and then when she got home she had to compete in a reality TV series to prove herself worthy of the title of Sapphirewoman. She won, but due to a copyright issue with another TV network that had produced a made-for-TV movie called Sapphirewoman she was forced to use the name Sapphiregirl. She then became a licensed city peacekeeper, free to round up bad guys and bring them to justice.

So that’s about it, I’ll probably add more as I go. What do you guys think? Any potential for a story?
I’ll add Snailman’s profile later.

1. That comic strip is funnier the more I look at it. It out-Martin Handfords Martin Handford.
2. The more minimalist your work gets the better it looks. Very nice implied space and weight.
3. DON'T UNSPOIL UNTIL YOU'VE CLICKED THE YOUTUBE LINKE!!!!! I loooooove the guillotine. That's the funniest, cleverest horror movie type thing I've ever seen to the point where I put spoiler tags because I want everyone else to not see it coming.

Thanks for your feedback, I'm flattered that you would use spoiler tags for the animation.
And yea I did read a lot of Where's Wally (Waldo) when I was a kid.
