it's what they are saying over at superherohype.com. some kid got a letter in the mail telling him that they were switching his subscription to Runaways.

it's what they are saying over at superherohype.com. some kid got a letter in the mail telling him that they were switching his subscription to Runaways.I'm guessing that's because Season 2 isn't even close to being started, much less solicited. If that's the only reason, saying it's cancelled is a leap.

I got the same letter. It doesn't mean Young Avengers is cancelled.

just do what I do.
if you're right, say "Look! I was right!" (add stuff if you want)
if you're wrong, just say "Hey, sorry folks, got a lil' ahead of myself. won't happen again".
and then everyone will be like "okay."
and then we'll continue to argue about continuity, or which avengers team is better, or how dumb the gamma dogs were...

If you are right then the title's cancelled, but until Marvel announces its cancellation it's nothing but a rumor; one that is contrary to recent information we've seen about the title's delays.

poor kid, lets have you leave a sensible super hero team book with characters you want to root for, and instead put you into a insane mess of a storyline book that has no plans of actually going anywhere, can't they at least give you a choice of books? I mean if I'm collecting young avengers, then mighty avengers would probably be a better series to go to than runaways

Don't buy it at all. It's just taking longer to get YA 2 ready, and they don't want to hold all those subscriptions open for months waiting for it to pick up again. So they're switching to Runaways for the forseeable future.

How, exactly, does one cancel a title that's not being published? This sounds tricky to me.

The Marvel Universe is so messed up right now that it wouldnt be possible to have a decent Young Avengers book. How would you do it? Make the Young Avengers trainees for Sheild with new characters since some of the current ones are anti reg? Or have them go on the run similar to Runaways?

Even IF Young Avengers vol. 1 was all we got for Scott's death (along with the new Ant-Man series), I'd still argue that was worth it. Young Avengers was THAT good.

Does Marvel announce cancellations anymore? They just stop publishing the books and doing solicits and then wait for someone to ask Joe Q in a Newsarama article "Where's this book?" to announce it's been cancelled for months...

I doubt they'd cancel it, the first one was such a big hit. If Hesenberg left, they'd just find a new person to write it.

There's a link to an interview in the entry for YA on wiki which makes it seem unlikely YA would be cancelled, plus it won at least one award and was nominated for others. As far as I'm concerned there will be a second season, even if I have to cover my ears and eyes and completely ignore fact, it's so good it can't be cancelled! :D

I doubt it'll get cancelled but they could have got a new writer. It was definitly good enough to become a monthly.

I think I'm in the minority here, but at this point I'd rather they switch the writer, I mean Heinberg is obviously talented and I'm guessing he would write his characters better than anyone else, but they are already really good character and it's a little unfair that they are currently in no comics. I'm pretty sure there are some other writers that would do them justice

They appeared in the YA/runaways CW mini, and have appeared in many of the tie-ins ( see scenes in : punisher warjournal, and the winter soldier one-shot), so not only are they appearing in marvel comics currently, other writers are getting their hands on them. I think thats fair in the context that we're waiting to have the benefit of the original creators who wrote a damn fine book. I would much prefer "seasons" oppose to an ongoing with a different writer/artist.
Not trying to act smart, I'm just saying in case you didn't know, marvel are making an effort to give them cameos and screentime, and in some cases, significant parts in the war ( see: hulkling). I find it inaccurate to say they're currently in NO comics.

I forgot about the Young Avengers Runaways mini. To be honest their participation in Civil War is different. We see them a lot, and we are under the impression that they are an important part of the Secret Avengers, but I dont think that's enough. In their ongoing we get to see them as complete characters, like Hulkling and Wiccan's relationship and so on. I do appreciate that they are having cameos in other books, but posing in a panel isn't exactly the same as having an ongoing. But like I said, I feel I am in the minority that would rather have someone else give the characters a try then wait endlessly, even though I do understand that Heinberg has been amazing and you could easily say "if it isnt broken, dont fix it". I just have the feeling that Heinberg is a very busy man, and maybe he a little too much on his plate rite now.

They'll probably kill one or two members at the end of Civil War. My guess that's the real reason the series is on a hold for now.

Hopefully it won't go the route of The Sentry
Here's this neat new character.. oops we aren't doing anything with him due to improtant story lines that don't involve him.
Does any one care about Sentry now?
Point being, bue to Marvel's practices they got this new character all hyped up then just left him behind.

I enjoyed Sentry's series personally.
But it's fairly accurate to say the guy is barely used. I do think writers need to figure out a way to put him in an enviroment where he can actually DO something.
Sentry needs to spend more time in space I think.

Well, i think Haunt pretty much admitted he made it up. :p Plus as was stated, you can't cancel a book thats not been published- they already said issue #12 was the end of that "season" and the next issue would be a new #1 similar to The Ultimates.
I personally do not in any way shape or form want another writer on Young Avengers. The characters aren't established enough for other writers to get a good feel on them. I felt the crossover with Runaways was a little odd in their portrayals, the just didn't seem quite themselves.
Even if its a great writer it doesn't mean they get the characters. I love Gail Simone but her fill-in during Geoff Johns run on Titans wasn't good with horrible art. Her characterization of the team members seemed more like the cartoon than the comics.
Raven saying "I'm unable to summon rage at the white things" while they were all bowling together?

I thought it was on hold because of Heinberg's schedule. His WW has been very late and acording to the new Wizard(I know, it's Wizard) Marvel is looking for a late 3Q/early 4Q release of vol. 2, Heinberg's stated that he intends to do a Young Masters of Evil next. If that is the starting time for it, I hope that Civil War isn't mentioned. Too much time will have passed.
