Hanks is pretty awesome. His deliriously illogical stories, contorted language, and visionary graphics (only Basil Wolverton comes close in matching his ability to conjure up profoundly strange images on the slightest of pretexts) are an inspiration to a generation of cartoonists working today. (Most of whom seem to hang out at The Comics Journal's message boards.) He's the guy whose weird images grace the cover of Gerard Jones' Men of Tomorrow: Geeks, Gangsters, and the Birth of the Comic Book.

Unlike Ed Wood, Hanks isn't so bad he's unintentionally enjoyable; he's just good in an entirely different way from nearly everyone else who was doing comics at the time.

From what I saw in Wizard his comics look interesting.

Are there trades that collect any of his comics?

I got a preview of Fantagraphics new Hank's collection today, and it was pretty cool. The absurd dream-like story and the crude beauty of the art was quite a surprise.

I'm up for any collection of his work.

An issue of RAW reprinted one of Hanks' stories--it was the first time I ever heard of him.

He recently made an appearance in the most recent issue of Femforce (#137). In that issue, he got to meet his blonde pointy-eared female counterpart of the same name, but he also falls in love with Synn!

You can find it online at: www.accomics.com
