Although it's (FMOF) not a comic, I don't know where else to post this.

I was going thru a stack of COMICS BUYERS GUIDEs yesterday, and came across an interesting ad. It read as follows:

"BANKRUPTCY SALE

FAMOUS
MONSTERS
OF FILMLAND

Pursuant to an order of the Bankruptcy
court in Case No. SV 01-19655-GM now
pending in the Central District of California,
the Trademark and Magazine Famous Monsters
of Filmland TM shall be sold by the Bankruptcy
Trustee at public auction for a minimum bid of
$100,00. For bidding information contact:

Daniel Lev, Esq.
(213) 626-2311"

Does anyone know what became of this auction? The CBG was a Nov 05 issue, so I'd assume this sale has taken place. I know Forry Ackerman no longer held the rights to his own magazine, but I was wondering who (if anyone) now has them.

It's not a comic, but it is still in its own way, one of ours. :)

It would be great if somehow before he dies the Ackermonster got back the copyright, but I honestly hadn't heard a word.

What was the date on the issue of CBG?

I only started buying comics when I couldn't find an issue of FM on the stands, so I definitely consider it "one of ours", as well (and don't forget that FM occasionally did include comics content, I do believe, in the form of short adaptations of monster films--mostly Hammer films, as I recall).
As much nostalgic love as I have for the name, the trademark itself is a worthless, soulless thing without FJA to animate it.

I initially read that title as Famous Monsters of Finland:

What was the date on the issue of CBG?

It was November of 2006 (not 05, as I put in my first post), so it probably came out in September or October.

Anybody interested in FM and Forry, should try and see the dvd documentary, THE SCI-FI BOYS. I got a copy from the local library, and it's pretty good. There's old footage of Forry, along with some from 2005. Some fun home movies of Don Glut's and others are shown also.

....and to keep this somehow Classic Comics related, they do show/mention EC comics, and I believe I saw Steranko at the footage of Ray Harryhausen getting a star on Hollywood's Walk Of Fame ( not sure what it's really called.)

I'm no expert, just a fan who has heard and read so many stories about comic fandom, I no longer know what is true. I remember hearing somewhere that the copyrights to the Warren characters; "Uncle Creepy, Cousin Eerie, and Vampirella" sold at auction in the 80s to "Harris Comics" for $100 a character. I loved FMOF when I was growing up. Uncle Forry made Monster Movie Fandom an art. For no more than my own opinion, Warren owes much of it's continued existance to this title. The sales on FMOF, must have gotten that company through some tough times.

Harris Comics bought the Warren horror comics chartacters but FAMOUS MONSTERS ended up with another publisher. I forget how he connived to do it, but he essentially swindled Forry out of his own magazine and managed to published several issues with FJA at the helm (I want to say this publisher's name was Ray Ferris but I have a feeling I may be wrong re the last name). In any case, Forry took him to court and apparently won some sort of judgment against him, so this bankruptcy thing may be a way for FJA to finally see some cash.

Like I said, I am a bit fuzzy on the details. I do know Forry was sorely abused by this guy and ended up selling off much of his collection and closing down the Ackermansion in order to absorb the financial hit he took.
