Hi, this is my first post on this entire site, i haven't had much experience with the comic world but i'm familiar with forums so i'm not totally in the dark here.

I'm 18 years old, and i've never really had any training in art except normal art class, which hasn't stopped me from drawing but it's mutated my style so to speak.

I've always been a fan of comic books and just a few years ago i finally put together that i love the art of it, so naturally like most of you when you first decided to go towards the comic book path i'm totally clueless about a lot of stuff.

here is a link to my deviant art gallery page:

i'm currently working on improving my visual story telling/ technical and buisness skills for my first actual comic book "Freedom", coming soon in 07'.

critique and feedback would be great but i warned you my stuff looks different than what your use to, maybe you'll like it maybe not, but thanks for looking :)

Welcome to CBR, Corey! :)

I have to admit that it's a little hard to give you any feedback. Most of the deviations in your dA gallery seem to be sketches or very quickly drawn ideas, and it's hard to tell what you could do if you spend a little more time working on something.

I really is hard to critique you because you have so many different styles posted in your gallery. Plus it's such a personal style that normal rules wouldn't even apply. The same can be said for your sense of humor. You may think flying killer frogs funny and maybe some other people will but it's really not typical humor that appeals to everyone.

If you're planning to do a comic I wish you luck but just be aware that people generally don't gravitate to stuff that's too far out of the ordinary.

Thanks for the welcome! I see what your saying about most of it being quick sketches and stuff, i love to draw but I do have the attention span problem, which is why i haven't spent tons of time on one project yet. That's something I want to work on, becoming more patient with my work, setting deadlines and stuff.

I understand that my work would have a smaller audience than say, a clean comic with no cussing/drugs/killer frogs/stupid humor, but that wouldn't be me, you know I can't stand drawing something that someone's eye could pass over via familiarity, you know? I get giddy when someone likes a sketch I've done, if someone read a comic of mine and liked it I would freak.

I don't mean to knock those type of artists, they're talented and I couldn't do what they do, but I guess I just enjoy being different (like i have a choice, lol! )

Basically I'm just completely aware that I am young, inexperienced and no where near the top of the totem pole, but I've realised that none of that matters in terms of definition of the words "comic book artist", all that matters you know is that I actually make comic books.

Thanks to the modern age of computers I can become my own small self publisher :)
