Hey all,
I've been hanging out mainly in Gail Simone's You'll All Be Sorry forum but I wanted to branch out some. Sorry I have only links and no previews. I've been fumbling around trying to get the link to see the pictures but with no success. :(
Here's some art from my comic that I have in production. The pencils and inks are by me this issue.

I saw the promise in the pencils page and thought the finished art could go either way. Then I saw the inked page and I really liked it. Now I'm no artist myself, so I can only comment from a reader's standpoint, but you got me interested in seeing how the rest of the book goes. Do you have any more of this Necropolis Chronicles available? A website perhaps?
EDIT: Okay, I just saw your signature. I'm gonna check it out.

The book looks and sounds pretty cool. It reminds of a BBC tv show Hex about boarding school witch with a lesbian/ghost as a best friend. The concept was neat, but the execution was pretty bad. Is your book being sold in stores or do you have to get it via the internet?

Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments.
I haven't heard of Hex before but i like the concept. LOL!
Currently the book is only sold through the internet.
Just a note on the art. Almost everything in the companion Guidebook is by me. In Book One, I did the grayscaling but Jennifer Rodgers did the pencils and Jason Embury did the inks. Preview pages of both can be found in the links under my name.
Enjoy!

Your comic looks great. That creature with the tentacled mouth is very evil looking. I'm very intrigued at what he wants with the woman.
I checked all the links. You have a lot of talent and its polished. Keep posting and I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the kudos, guys, they are appreciated.
New artwork is a bit tough at the moment unless you're watching the CBR Project Runway because I've been stuck working 6 days a week a lot lately  . But I have a lot of older stuff I can post that I think looks pretty sweet.:o
I'll post more soon.

But overall, it's a great great drawing.
And that red/pink ninja woman, isn't she a Mortal Kombat character?

It's a hommade character. She's an old woman that secures a second chance in today's world.

I don't have the full villain team figured out yet, but a bunch of forgotten old villains get a new shot at youth when taking on my heroes. The villains make sure that the world pays for the disrespect of forgetting them. I'm working on the story now and don't have everything ironed out yet.

First, thanks for the feedback 666, it's nice to know people are looking at my stuff.
I have never heard of Manchester Black. I'll have to Google him to make sure I haven't accidentally ripped someone off. Or at least make sure he's not so close in design that people will be confused.

Great drawings DJ! :)
You definitely like the femlae form. As to this...
I think it's something in the upper part of the figure. I dunno.
it's definitely her upper half. I think you have to define her clothes more. What material is it supposed to be? Honestly, I don't think the way it's construction is based in reality. It follows her form too much, which is the second problem. What is her form underneath it?
the only other criticism I'd add is that you apparently have a problem with people's legs. Both the women and the men, sorry, but they tend to be Leifeld-esque. coming to too small knees and having hardly any overlaying musculature underneath the skin.

Hi mgs,
What gave you the idea that I like the female form? :p
It took me a minute to figure out you were talking about the pic from the first page. The material of clothes are leather skirt and a heavy knitted but form fitting sweater.
I haven't heard of having my legs on characters criticized much before except for length. I like loooong legs on people. Usually, especially for the past few months, I haven't spent much time on drawing. It's part of the reason my pictures may be a little stagnant and all similar because I'm trying to get the picture done as opposed to having it sit in a corner unfinished. So it's entirely possible because of my process that I have fallen into a rut of sameness.
That said, I expect to be off of working mandatory 6 days a week and often 7 days a week and hope to get back to working on my sequentials that I haven't touched in 4 months. By doing so I expect to draw more varied angles and expect to work on all anatomy as I'm forced to draw in different angles.
Thanks for the insight!

A new character I'm developing. She's a little bit older so the swath of white in her hair is actually silver. And her two tops would be burgundy in color.

I have to blow a horn here and say she's based on pics of me (which she is, thank you Jim!). I love this pic, even though I'm not that thin.
Going back to mgs's comments earlier, the main thing that I see overall in your art, Jim, that sometimes throws me is that the limbs are too skinny for their length, male or female. Arms yes---but it really shows in the legs. There are thin characters it really works for (like your Louisann' Swamp Rat), but others that it doesn't work so well for. I think if you'd be willing to work with musculature (sp?) and size a bit, it would help your drawings overall.
Long thin legs are great---but often they come off as too "straight linish" if you get what I mean. Give some of 'em some curve, and see what you think. (Especially thighs and calves.) BTW, IIRC an average woman is like 1/3 the strength of a man in upper body, because most of us have less upper body muscle---but we're 2/3 a man's strength or more with the legs, because we've got more muscle there. So with leg presses, we stand a better chance at equalling some men, because we have more muscle there, than in the upper body.
The other thing is that, while I understand your difficulties in working with color, even with your B&W pics, let the highlights do some of the work for you, in defining muscles, etc. Often your highlights are very straight also---let them curve, and jag in and out a bit too, to show where the muscles lie. It can help, in working on getting a bit more "real" feeling to your arms and legs.
I love your art, and sometimes the "thin" look really works (especially for some teen female characters)---but other times, it doesn't work quite as well, for what I think you're trying to portray.

Hmmn,... two suggestions now about the way I draw limbs. There just might be something to this.
I shall consult with my favorite artist, Alan Davis, to see if he has any pointers for me.
