To me, anime came here in trends, first we had the DBZ and Pokemon, now we have Bleech and Naruto...in your opinion, what are some great new manga or anime that is just hitting the market ( in USA or Japan) that is about to become a great new trend, or the greatest anime/manga of all?

I'll go out on a limb and predict a greater appreciation for sitcom and romance dramedy anime like Densha Otoku.
Just a gut feeling.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out what the hell was so great about Densha Otoku. I found it horribly overhyped.

First post here, but I'd hope for more stuff along the lines of Tenchi Muyo or Chobits, but that's just me.

I think what people like about it is that it's NOT Tenchi or Chobits... it's a realistic romantic comedy about real people. No robots, no harems, no intergalatic soap opera... just people, confused and vulnerable and stupid, finding their way towards love.

I was only stating my favorite anime and manga, I haven't seen Densha Otoku. Though perhaps I should. Sigh, if only I lived near a store that sold anime. Or a bookstore with manga. Heck, I'd settle for a bookstore, period. I've outgrown my library, though it's one of the best small libraries in the country.

Okay, I haven't seen this series, so maybe I shouldn't comment, and this is really just my opinion, I'm not placing value opinions on anything, but...
I watch anime *for* the Giant Robots and intergalactic soap operas. Same reason I read X-men. I get enough of real life on a daily basis.
Now, I like a down to earth story from time to time, too. When it's exceptionally well told.
For me, the real magic is when you manage to get a fantastic setting and combine it in equal parts with good human drama.

Me too. I hated the main dude and Hermes.

Yep, and you're in good company... plenty of people like the same stuff, and there's a great deal of material out there that's designed specifically to appeal to you.
But what marketing execs want (and they often drive the trends) is to tag the hundreds of thousands of potential fans who DON'T want that... but they might be into something more down-to-earth.

I don't know about trend setters, but I'm sure Fullmetal Alchemist could be one. It's one of the most original ideas for a manga I've seen in a while.

Funny. I don't remember Densha being ANIME. Dammit. Now we're calling J-Dramas anime? It isn't even animated! (An opening sequence does not an anime series make.) Geez. At least Avatar is animated so I can almost see that mistake.
Or am I just a terminology grinch? I'm surprised I'm not an English major. Though biology is a stickler for taxonomy.
Then again, didn't we already have a thread like this? Wasn't it about what the big new anime series is? Isn't that what this is about? DBZ and Pokemon or Bleech and Naruto are NOT trends. They are popular series or the current fad.
A trend is something more like a common theme in different shows. The only one that comes to mind right now are robot maids, which somewhat died down. I guess the harem anime went from trend to cliche staple in most anime.
Acutally, I've noticed a couple of anime like Noir, Madlax and some new anime I saw on Anime New Network have this theme of a quiet smaller girl teaming up with a taller more out going girl and shooting things up.
And then I checked that article again and it says they're all by the same director. Ha.

Densha is a TV show, an anime, and last time I checked at least three manga series.
The Japanese never market light. :D

Whoa. They did make an anime out of it? When did that happen? Unless you mean the anime within the show. Mina the girl with the carrots on her butt. I heard they were making that an anime series, but I wouldn't quite call that a Densha anime. It's more of a spinoff. Like Gekigenger or whatever that show was in Nadesco.

I could be mistaken, but I was certain they were making at least an OAV or something... maybe you're right, maybe it's the spinoff thing.
I still think sitcom/romantic comedy/dramatic comedy is something that will become more popular. Least, I'd like to hope so.

I would like a war story in the Gundam Wing vein, but without the robots. A non-giant robot war story is something I think would work well.
