View Full Version : So I'm getting a Wii...

...and though I know my work output is going to dramatically decrease (unless I stop sleeping and use those 6 and a half hours for gaming) I'm really excited about it. The only thing is, Ive been reading online reviews of the games and checking out boxes but I can't get a sense of which games are good and which will waste my money.
So I come to you, the fine, fine members of the YABS Board, to ask your help and guidance: which Wii games should I get?
In general, I don't dig on shooter games (though I'm probably making an exception for CALL OF DUTY 3 since I'm a huge WW2 fan) and the one that come to mind to try are the Marvel game, Trauma Unit and Zelda - are those any good? Suggestions on other games? Tell me a bit about them?
Thanks for the help, folks!

I would love to see my mom playing a wii game. She's one of those where when she was making a character jump she would actually move the controller into the air too. With a wii she would actually be helping the character instead of looking silly!:D

I loved the Zelda game. If you like the others its a must get. Rayman is a bunch of mini games and i really enjoyed it. i really want to play trauma center cause i enjoyed the version on the DS but i just haven't had the extra money to go get a copy.

The new Zelda game was a lot of fun. I've had an eye on the Marvel Ultimate Alliance game but haven't bought it yet (maybe for my birthday). I've only played maybe 15 minutes or so of Red Steel (last time I was home), so I can't really give an opinion on the overall game yet... but it seems fun so far (sword and shooter game).

Yeah, RED STEEL is basically a shooter game to me - my neighbor has it and I'm not a fan. I'll probably pick up ZELDA - i've always dug those games even though ive been stuck in a temple on my Gameboy version for over a year...!
I hope they put the GODFATHER game on the Wii.

IMO, Zelda is the only "real" game on it worth getting just now. Rayman: Raving Rabbids is brilliant. Single player is a pain in the arse, but once you plod through and unlock the games for multiplayer it's a guaranteed riot.

My girlfriend is really looking forward to Warioware: Smooth Moves. It's coming out January 17 and should be a fun one.

I played the Wii version of Twlight Princess and I absolutely hated it. I didn't like the controls at all. It felt like a chore trying to get Link to do stuff. I'm sticking with the Wii version.
My brother brought his Wii home when he visited for Christmas and Zelda...man, that was amazing. The graphics and game play had me hypnotized watching him! Plus, some of the Internet capacity and old-school games on that were incredibly cool.
But Neil -- come on man! Your career's going really well right now! The Wii will SUCK YOU IN, man! It's like other game systems times 100! I'M WARNING YOU!

Oh, Warioware is a guaranteed hit. Think it's out today over here and I can't wait to play it. Preferably under some sort of alcoholic influence.

Ah, the true test of any student is being able to overcome the challenges set in his path. Even Wonderful, Nintendoey challenges.
It's all about discipline and budgeting time, dude.

Somehow I've started playing less Wii and gotten back into Counterstrike and Half Life Deathmatch. I have no clue how this happened.

I was completely surprised by ELEBITS. It's a blast -- you search your entire house for little gremlin-like creatures by using the controllers as if they were your "hands"...so you pick stuff up, throw it, set it down, whatever to find these guys. It's tons of fun.
RAYMAN and ZELDA would be the other ones I recommend.

I'm not really a gamer, but I've debate getting one of these.
The Marvel game is a big draw of course. Who could resist being able to punch Modok in the face? ;)

How has the Wii sucked my life away? Zelda, obviously. Wii Sports is great with friends over, but if you haven't played the "mission" modes like the bowling thing where you have to knock down a hundred pins then you must try that.
Excite Truck is an absolute blast especially if you're playing custom soundtracks while mowing down the opposition. I think the people who bust on it haven't played it and are just assuming that the negative reviews are gospel.
Don't forget the Virtual Console... if you've never owned Gunstar Heroes, SimCity, The Legend of Zelda I, Super Castlevania IV, Super Star Soldier, Bomberman T16, or Bonk's Adventure you are missing out.
Also, if you have an HDTV try out some of your Gamecube games... Fire Emblem and F-Zero look outstanding in widescreen... I was never able to play them that way before since the HD cables for Gamecube was required for WS and I wasn't shelling out 75+ dollars.
