Karen El, I read your latest Planet Karen today, as usual, when I came in to work (I always get in early). I was stunned - I have to say, the bottom just fell out of my stomach. I don't know you personally, but I've been reading the webcomic for some time and it was a real shocker.

I'm so very sorry.

I hope you have family and/or friends who are with you on this. It would be so hard to go through this alone.

My wife has diabetes and my grandfather had it as well. The main thing to remember is that you are in control here. Do the right things and you will have a very happy and healthly life.

Thank you, everyone. I can't tell you how much it means that so many people have responded in forums and emailed me about it.

It was a big shock to me, and I think it's going to have a big effect on my life, but I'm dealing with it, and one of the ways I'm doing that is by writing about it.

I would have prefered less melodramatic timing, though.

I have diabetes also. Found out about your age (I think I am 10 years older than you) and the look you drew on yourself matched exactly how I feel.

There are much worse things than diabetes. If you take care of yourself and learn how to be a diabetic chances are it will never be a serious problem.

Half of my family is/was diabetic. I've got lot's of experience with it.
