What a nice gesture.

DC, that is, Dan DiDio, Mike Carlin, and Tom Palmer Jr, sent me a GORGEOUS vase of flowers yesterday. I get packages all day long but it's mostly work to be checked so it was very much a surprise to get flowers from those three sweet guys who have been so great to me in my career.

It was for the Atom. The note said, Dear Gail, for the 'little book that could.' Love, Dan, Mike and Tom.

That means a lot to me. Very very sweet!

Awwwwwwwwwwww. I hear bad things about Didio sometimes, but from the people who've actually met him, he sounds like a cool guy.

That's how it is done, right?

You think that just because a man sends you flowers, you have to spend time on your back, w/ your legs in the air?

why?

don't you have a Vase?

New viable characters. You are making great money for the company they run. They should be sending you flowers...

More importantly, you are entertaining the heck outta me. Keep up the good work!

Every week is a good week if I have a Gail Simone book. I post here because I enjoy your comics.

Thank you so very very much.

I think it is terrific, Gail.

Luna Books sent Misty a huge bunch of flowers when her first book from them came out. It's one of the marks of a great company when they not only produce a fine product but they take care of their people emotionally.

Presents and attaboys can mean a HUGE amount to a creator. No matter how much you might personally be happy with your work, knowing that someone thought of you and actually went to that effort means a lot.

And also, Gail... I am so glad that, in the midst of so many force-two shitstorms, you got a ray of sunshine. *smile* And the praise is deserved.

Iv met dan at a convention, most down to earth guy ever,

I'd love for him to do a mini series or something(metal men), with Jim lee on pencils?

Yeah Dan is a pretty cool guy, in Wizard World Chicago people were mobbing him at the DC Nation both, and even though it seemed like he was in a hurry to get somewhere he took the time and tried to talk to the 10 or 12 people with questions. I don't know, that just seemed very cool, the guy has got an accent though, where is from anyway?

I've heard nothing but nice things about him personally.

I just have a serious disagreement with him about his vision for the DC Universe and a number of characters in it. ;)

If Jim can squeeze it into his schedule you may get an issue every 2-3 years. *rolls eyes*

I love Jim's work, but methinks he doth stretch himself too thin...

And congrats, Gail! I can't think of anyone more deserving. Between you, Waid, Johns, Busiek (awesome job on Big Blue), and Meltzer I'm a happy DC geek right now...

Awwwwwwwwwwww. I hear bad things about Didio sometimes, but from the people who've actually met him, he sounds like a cool guy.

He really is a nice guy. I wound up being in his entourage at the hotel lobby and he handled himself very well considering the beating he was taking for certain things (like Ted Kord).

However, his age-dar is off. I'm 26. I realize I look a bit older but he seemed to think I was his age. It came up when he tossed one of his standard conversation prompts, "What was your first comic book?" and my answer was Walt Simonson's Fantastic Four. To which he replied, "Well... Some of us start late." (He also misdiagnosed Peyton from Millarworld's age by a good ten years so I wasn't alone there.)

I do take a certain pleasure, in retrospect, when he asked me what I would do with Batgirl, as a publisher, since Barbara Gordon was still thought of as Batgirl by the general public and my response was that I'd give Barbara Gordon a second shot at the role in an ALL-STAR book. The smile he shot me there, pure gold, as was the conversation that followed.

Really nice guy, full of energy. He comes off like a very energized businessman who really gets that DC is in the business of FUN; it's probably more his background in soaps that equates "fun" with killing people and maiming them and putting them into comas -- and he's not entirely WRONG there. But I think he takes it too far, personally.

I really don't agree with all of his decisions and I think some are so wrong it hurts. I like him as a human being. I don't have to reconcile those two things as long as I don't work for him... But, if I did work for him, I'd probably err on the side of defending most of his decisions because he seems like a cool guy.

I do hope he read that "Broken Vagina" blog with an open mind though because I think it illustrates some problems in the company mindset.

Damn! I forgot about Dini, but you can have Morrison. I've never been as gaga over his work as others have, and the only reason why his Batman stuff is in my collection is because it's Batman. The whole 'Son of' thing just bugs me, so I haven't read anything after the first part of his arc.

I love that i read this thread after i just made an angry post about didio in another thread. he may be a lovely individual but that doesn't make him a good ideas man or editor. that's one of the things that's been bothering me lately is the idea of editor in chief, like there's one guy that ideas are flowing from, i could understand if it was some great creative mind like stan lee, but guys like didio and joey q, while probably great guys aren't always the creative geniuses that all story ideas should be handed down from.
but that being said, he seems like he must be at least a good manager. my supervisor hasn't given me anything other than more hours to come in without pay.
