hi everybody.
So I just started collecting the trade paperbacks of the G I Joe series. Does anybody here know if Marvel has plans to finish the series, as the only have 5 volumes, issues 1-50 (of 155) in print?
Also, does anybody know why vol. 4 is so hard to find?

I haven't heard anything about Marvel continuing the series -- it's been several years since those five came out. I don't know why vol. 4 would be harder to hunt down than any others, though.

Last I heard, there wouldn't be any more trades. I decided to complete my Joe collection a few years ago. Between the trades and back issues, I probably spent around $500. Now that the 80's craze is over, I'm sure you won't spend anywhere near that.

I know IDW is now collecting the original Marvel series, but does anybody know if they will continue the run in its entirety?
They are soliciting Vol. 6 and I know Vol. 7 is in the works, but last time I posed this question there seemed to be people who were saying that they would be unable to re-print the whole thing b/c of some kind of issue with the art etc. . . .

Well, last time I saw this type of thread on here I heard that IDW was stopping at volume 5, just like Marvel did. So at least you have good news going beyond that.

IDW recently completed reprinting the 5 Marvel TPBs (complete with the same J Scott Campbell covers) under their own banner.
They apparently DO plan to continue the series of TPBs (using Campbell's covers from the first few issues of Image/DDP's GI Joe series) - and may even be doing a SPECIAL MISSIONS collection of some sort.
The issues with the art stem from Marvel's remastering the original prints of #1-50. It cost em a pretty penny, and that was a reason why they stopped with Volume 5. #51 and on look very different from 1-50 - a series of Best Of TPBs showed the difference: pre-50 was clear and bright and brand new, post-50 was grainy and looked like it'd been put through a color copier.
It'd take some money to restore the prints to the level that Marvel's efforts look - that may not be worth the investment if the TPBs aren't making them much of a profit. But I hope it is, because more JOE on TPB shelves is a good thing.

Ah. Thanks for that background.
Volumes 6 & 7 are already being solicited up on Amazon, anybody know which direction they're going with?

Presumably it keeps the 10-issue-per-trade format intact (so #51-60 and 61-70).
And the solicit for Vol. 6 says it's recolored, so that sounds promising...
(And the IDW boards say Volume 8 is apparently on Amazon too, but I can't find it).

This all makes me very happy. I used to have most of the series up to around 120 or so, but I seem to have lost most of them. I hope they are able to go ahead and finish the main series, go on to the Special Missions, Year Books and European Missions as well, regardless of quality.
