Mike just gets better and better. I can't wait. It's kind of cool to see little evolutions taking place in his work. If this is what we get for waiting, I'm all for giving him as much time as he needs. And I'm increasingly aware of the amazing coloring work that goes into these illustrations.

Oh man...I love these covers! I absolutely dig the design work, boxes of empty space, and the 'Darkness' cover, with the bird...nice.

I thought that Sai Mignola had become little repetitive with his covers, some a little uninspired to be honest (The Fog & Screaming Brain covers come to mind).

But the latest batch? Now we're talkin'!:)

And I can't wait for new Fegredo...

I find the BPRD cover realy amusing. As to the Darkness Calls... A Bit dissapointing. These houses in the background were allready seen on both one of the latest BPRD cover [was it the trade? don't remmember right now...] and the screaming brain cover. And what's up with Hellboy teeth all of the sudden? I remmeber Mike drawing a guide "how do draw hellboy" for the Ghost crossover and mentioning there not to draw HB with his bottom teath as it makes him look "silly". First the Card Game collage in which Hellboy's bottom teeth are the only thing not perfect about it and now these teeth. [these are not as bad as the Card ones but still...].

Anyways, did anyone else also noticed that HB face looks much more scared after the event of the Island?

Thanks, Khan. Guess it won't be long before we'll
be asking for a "Mignola Art at DarkHorse" book to
go along with the "THE ART OF HELLBOY".

'Course, I've always been a proponent of "Mignola Art at DC" and
"Mignola Art at Marvel" and "Mignola Art at Publishers-You-May-Not-
Have-Heard-Of" books. Figure, maybe, in another 10 years some
of these may be published.

"never see just upper teeth... makes him look doofy" - from Mike Mignola's Hellboy model sheet

Bottom teeth are okay and have been seen often.

Also, it's a castle with towers on the cover of Man with the Screaming Brain and a totally different castle on the cover of Universal Machine. It's not the same buildings at all. Mike likes to draw medieval European architecture.

I like both of these though I'm not 100% sure about the geometric divisions of the BPRD cover. The Darkness Calls cover is pretty good though. The little bird clinches it for me.

Thanks for posting the new images! I've been searching for that Garden of Souls 2 cover, but wasn't able to find one until now.

Love both covers quite a bit! Mike continuing his collage of images covers theme for the BPRD issues. Never becoming repetative old hat (how he manages to keep each image fresh with that punch in the gut sensation I'll never know), even when using themes and image elements that repeat from piece to piece (like poetry where stanzas repeat). The Darkness Calls image is also very nice also via its composition simplicity. Nothing too challenging, but doesn't really need to be in order to get its point across.

A master doing what a master does. Simple as that.

I love them. As far as MM's art...it's fascinating to me to think that there are people out there that just don't like his art. But we look at his line work, or his boxes of empty space and see beauty. Or when you see a piece of MM art and you just can't put your finger on it, but your instinctively drawn to it. Very cool.

I concur Maija ... and for me the double squid action in the BPRD one clinches it... they're both beauties!

I'm loving the news covers, and Mike's sudden overuse of animals. First the fish, now the squids and bird. The colors also have great contrast to one another. Hellboy's purple tones with vibrant red as compared to the recent blue hues of the BPRD covers make both titles very eye-catching. Even before I read the comics, I'm loving them just for the cover designs. They're keeping me stoked for March and on.

If you haven't already, peep the new covers: Darkness Calls #2 & Garden of Souls #3. Both look slawsome. I really like the chimera booby/albatross-moray eel on GOS and the owl face on DC. I want to buy the originals!

Oh yeah, and prepare yourself for when Roger comes back from the "dead".:D

Looks like the bird from the St Leonards Worm story. Maybe an explaination of his flower spurting blood is within?

Mignola's really outdoing himself with these recent covers. I'm in love with all of these for the titles. March and April seem too long away.

I'd been pretty disappointed with the Conan covers that he was doing. They just didn't have the beautiful detail and layout design that Mignola is securing as his signature cover work. But seeing the new, even more complex BPRD covers and the beautiful Hellboy covers, I'm so stoked for the covers alone.

Thanks for posting the covers to Garden of Souls 3 and DC 2! I love just about anything Mike does these days where he's drawing animals. He's a true, true master of drawings just about any kind of animal of any species. Anatomical correctness (at least as far as I can tell), sinewy beauty, natural intensity, and complete believability. Bev Doolittle, eat your heart out! :p
