AFTER THE CAPE
Shadowline Presents a Hero's Fall from Grace

How far can even a superhero fall?

Ethan Falls was the man who had everything: family, fame, success and super powers. More than just a costume, his cape was a proud symbol of everything he had become. Now, a crippling addiction has taken that and everything else away from him and he's spiraling out of control, towards a life of crime. Shadowline proudly presents Howard Wong and Marco Rudy's gripping tale of addiction and temptation in AFTER THE CAPE, a three-issue miniseries debuting this March from Image Comics.

"AFTER THE CAPE is a very personal story about the cost of success," explains writer Howard Wong. "Ethan Falls is faced with the temptations of taking the wrong road, and Marco and I are enjoying using the superhero tradition to tell a story about the harsh consequences we all could face, and how one man, who should be impervious to such dangers, succumbs to them."

"Marco's art is simply amazing," says Shadowline's Jim Valentino. "His high contrast film noir style is infused with painstakingly observed realism. There's an underlying optimism and sincerity to Marco's work. The artwork hits you right in the gut with the tragedy that Ethan's life has become."

A powerful mix of superhero action and real world drama, AFTER THE CAPE delivers an arresting vision of an extraordinary man pushed to the breaking point.

AFTER THE CAPE #1 (of 3) carries a cover price of $2.99 ships March 14 and is available through Diamond Previews (JAN071921).

Here's a pinup that Marco Rudy made based on a very famous statue. Any guess which one?

This March Shadowline/Image releases the tragic tale of a fallen hero's war with alcohol, and the path he takes to provide for his family. CBR News spoke with "After the Cape's" first-time creators, Howard Wong & Marco Rudy.

Andy knows his smack! Without doubt his skills help hold this place together.

Howard / Marco - the art in the CBR article is even better - if that's even possible!

Yeah, Andy has them skillz! (notice the "z")

I think Marco's art gets better every time I look at it, but that's just me. :D

Yeah, sorry for not jumping in about this. I found out that it was shipping on the 21st as well. I had to reschedule the signings I was doing at a few shops, so it all happens on the 21st.

I'll be at the Beguiling at 1pm then t Paradise Comics at 4pm and then 7-7:30pm at Kaos Komix. I will do a sign-by at a few shops as well, so be on the lookout.

Oh, it's all in Toronto peeps, my hometown.

I'll also be at a Con on March 25th and on June 8-10 torontocomiccon.com

Thanks Ron!

Hmmm ... has anyone told Diamond? Their updated "final" list doesn't include it. Of course, the list also doesn't include at least 3 other Image titles that CBR previously previewed as shipping this week, too. Or maybe I can't read.

Never mind (I hope) -- looks like the dopes at Diamond messed up the list, as the email my LCS just sent out does include After the Cape & the other Images I was anticipating, along with a couple of other titles that Diamond didn't list. Bless those guys (Diamond, not my LCS) for employing the hopelessly incompetent ...

i got my issue and really enjoyed both the story and the art very much. i'm looking forward to the rest of the series. the story hits very close to home with me as my mother was an alcholic, and i used to drink too much myself until she finally died of kidney failure. i know how it feels to both be disapointed by somebody who can't help but mess things up cause they had to have a drink and to be the person to let those they love down for the same reason. the main character is still looking for a quick fix and it seems he's going to have to hit rockbottom before he realizes there is no quick fix for his problem, add in the fact he has superpowers and it's going to be 1 hell of a ride. i'm on for the long haul.

again the art is very impressive too, i dig the inks.

Thanks so much lboinyamouf4sho. I really appreciate your comments and sharing such an intimate part of your life with everyone. I hope I'm doing Ethan's character justice, just have to see when issue two and three comes out in April and May.

There's actually no inks. Marco takes his pencils and darkens them in Photoshop. Yeah, he's crazy like that, but we like him that way. ;)

got mine today, i wish it was atleast a 4 issue series because this 1 seemed a little rushed and to think there's only 1 issue left saddens me, still a good issue though. i hope in the future there's a prequel to this series to show what drove ethan into his decent into alcholisim. paladin, shadow stalker, and lady machine all seem like pretty cool characters and i'd like to know more about them too.

looking forward to the next and dreading the last issue at the same time.
