Maybe since Annihilus essentially ingested Quasar, he also ingested the spores that inhabited Quasar's body. Since he didn't know about them, he didn't know that Quasar was (consciously, perhaps) keeping them at bay. The spores grow out of Annihilus' body, ripping him apart. When they go to battle Ego (again), they find a cocoon holding Wendell, reborn.

This is an exceptionally absurd FF line-up. It would be hilarious if they tried to go through the motions as the regular team, complete with standard blue FF uniforms for everyone, including Galactus and even Ego. Of course, Ego would have to sit out certain adventures, like trips to the Negative Zone or the Microverse. Come to think of it, Ego couldn't exactly fight crime in Manhatten or travel to Attilan or Wakanda. And speaking of Wakanda, how does this line-up fit with the supposed Black Panther/Storm line-up that is coming soon?

This doesn't sound like a bad idea at all especially if they can somehow team up with Ronan and Super Skrull, now that would be something to see. Anyway this is a 100% fake out. Having the cosmic side of marvel being intimately involved on a title like this would probably push away more readers than it would bring in. Also the usual FF rogues gallery would have to be scrapped in favor of all new super powerful threats to the universe. I mean Mole Man wouldn't be much of a problem.....or would he? ;)
