A couple of weeks ago at the bookstore, I thumbed through a copy of Marvel's trade paperback "The Women of Marvel," which included the original brunette Cat (Greer Grant) on its cover, but saw that inside, the only story featuring Greer was her Cat origin, with no mention whatever of her more famous persona, Tigra. Anybody know if Marvel's planning to do an Essentials on the furry version of Greer?

Jerry,
That must be Hellcat (aka Patsy Walker) on the cover of the TPB. Note that she has red hair, and that her costume has a blue cowl. The Cats' uniforms had a yellow cowl. Her leg obscures her chest, or you should also be able to see there is no "cat's paw" emblem on her chest. The Cats' uniforms all had the blue emblem, while the Hellcat's costume did not.
Hope this helps,

Hellcat isn't featured. Greer -- The Cat -- is. They probably included her over Tigra for her feminist origins. I think that "The Cat" is the only one of these female-starring books that was written by a woman!
Not sure if they're going to continue with the Women of Marvel TPBs -- I wish they would! It was fabulous to see all those origin stories re-colored! Anyone have sales figures?
It's just a wonky anthology to make. None are really tied together by artist, author, or much else. It just seemed to be a collection of definitive/origin stories for the big 80s Marvel Women. And with most of these ladies getting essential trades -- Ms. Marvel, Spider-Woman, She Hulk, X-Men, Dazzler -- I don't know what they'd do with a Vol. 2.

Some of the folks at Marvel don't seem to know the difference. They did the same thing a few years ago when they polled to see if the Scorpion, the Cat, Werewolf by Night, or Kraven should appear in Amazing Fantasy. The picture they used for the poll was Patsy in her Hellcat costume.
BTW, another heroine introduced at the same time as the Cat was also written by a women. Shanna the She-Devil was written by Carol Seuling. Unfortunately like the Cat, her series only ran 5 issues.
Ms. Marvel's series ran to issue 23, and Spider-Woman's to 50, plus Marvel had to resolve their plot lines in issues of the Avengers and X-Men. Shanna went on to appear in Daredevil and Ka-Zar. It seems like there's lots more material, if it sells...
