If you think about it, DKR would make a great video game on so many levels. Even if the video game weren't intended to match the brilliance of the book in terms of the writing and the feel, it would still really work.
It's mostly about the way the story builds: from Harvey Dent to the Mutants to the Joker through to the end. There's also potential for a number of boss-fights, and it would be a great free-roaming Gotham with all the random crimes.
What do you think?

I would love to see a game based on DKR and using GTA engine but this is only a dream. But,yeah it would be cool to create such a game.
I think I read somewhere once that a mod was created or was being worked on using the GTA engine to make a Batman game. Never learned what happened with that. It's certainly possible to do.

I think it would be a great call.
It already has great bosses in Two-Face, the Joker, The Mutant King, and Superman. It's got great ordinary villains in cops, and the henchmen of the villains.
It would have compelling challenges, and a readymade sequel.

i'd like to see it in the GTA - Spiderman style. You could die by having a heart attack if you push to far and stuff. And also have blackouts during fights. There could be a Robin Training session too. Galloping around on a horse at the end would be cool as would the fight with Superman.

I'm sorry, I never want to hear, F*#%ing Son of a B*&%@ I had another goddamn heart attack, while playing a video game.
But if you polish up the combat, a gta based engine would be great for a batman game.
Note to self,
Step 1: Get unbelievably rich.
Step 2: Buy DC comics
Step 3: Buy Sears Tower
Step 4: Rename Sears Tower to WayneCorp
Step 5: Develop most bad ass batman videogame at WayneCorp

There are a few Batman mods for GTA
I don't have a PC so, I can't use these, and have no idea if they are any good at all.

There, at one point, was a really good 60's tv show mod for Vice City, but I can't find that one now.
I've always thought the GTA engine would be the only way to make a GOOD Batman game.

But Bruce is threatened by one all the way through DKR. To make it a true DKR game then you need to play on the old man factor. And staving off a heart attack in this sort of game would be something quite new. I think it would give the game that DKR charm.

Wouldn't just a stand alone Batman game with a GTA engine be great? I think it would actually be better than one based on a preexisting story because it allows people to use a lot of the rouges gallery and play with (either as or alongside) different members of the Bat-Family.

Yeah, but there is nothing wrong in including Batman's rouges gallery in a game version of DKR. You have the main missions, which follow the story, and then you can have all the side missions, which don't feature in the comic. Be great to get Frank Miller on board to come up with DKR Riddler, Bane, etc...
In fact, with the power of the consoles now, a GTA based Batman game could incorporate several Batman eras, types etc. You could have a Year One based game that once complete moves into Batman in his thirties, and then once that's complete move up again, culminating in DKR. You could even throw in Vampire Batman as a bonus game or something.

DKR Bane wouldn't really work.
He'd probably end up just like Bane in Batman Beyond--that is, wasted away and decrepit from the toll that the serum takes on him body.
Though the Riddler would be great. All that extra experience would make him a foe to be reckoned with.
Also, I'd love to see a DKR Ra's A'Ghul. :D He'd be an effing monster, at that point.
And, personally, I don't think a Batman game would be GTA-based.Sure, incorporating those elements (like Spider-Man II, Superman Returns, Hulk: Ultimate Destuction, and all the others) would work, but it'd have to be so much more.
Riots, gang fights, interrogation, hand-to-hand combat sequences a la God of War, and, of course, beautiful cutscenes... It'd have to be a 10/10 just to live up to the comic.
Speaking of which, I bet that Dark Knight Strikes Again would actually be better as a video game.

I think Bane could be really well done in a DKR game. It's all down to imagination. He could have used other drugs to comabat any adverse effects of Venom and used cybernetics etc, to keep him going.
I agree about Ras, he would be fantastic.
And yes you would have to modify the GTA engine to better suit Gotham situations. And I think some of the latter GTA's have gone to far with there complexity. I couldn't be bothered to complete San Andreas.
