why do dissenting fans still hang around the message boards of their ex-favorite artist soley to complain?? i mean why stick around if you don't like the artists in question anymore?

Same reason why people read comics they don't like. Hope.

And because they can.

Some see it as an ex-lover. Once they were the greatest item around, then there was betrayal. Now, the bitter ones take the opportunity to bad mouth their ex whenever there's a chance. It's easier when you don't have to show your face.

I think that most people find it easier to articulate what they dislike than what they like. I used to meet people who would go to 8-10 Grateful Dead concerts in a row and then complain that they saw too many repeated songs.

Hi! Welcome to the Internet. You must be new here.

Some people just like to bitch about stuff. It was insane when Bruce Springsteen was touring back in 2003, the amount of bitching about the songs he was playing by people who weren't even at the concerts!

"That's the tenth time he's used that combination of songs in the middle of the set! Can't he shake it up a bit?" What does it matter? Were you at all ten of those concerts? If you're really so tired of reading the same song titles in the same order off a computer screen, turn the damn thing off and go get a life!!!

Dude, straight up.

Their news blogs - great, their news - great,

their forum - Hater Central. Nothing but bitching, whining, fighting, constantly, over and over.

Odds are you'll find three vulgar replies before you get one without vulgarity, then two more before a decent response.

My hats off to Matt Brady, but damn, that place is harsh.

I'm on one of those boards.
Most of them like the people on the forum, and still like the old stuff from the band.
And they like to have a go at new people.

Sometimes they even try to calm it down after a big piece of drama.

The thing that bugs me the most about boards that are specific to one artist is how the posters all have to out-do one another to show who's the most hardcore fan.

I think the bitching has a bit of that in it, too.
