Ok... since Augie had to rub it in our faces that he read CW #6 I'm starting a new thread for January 2007! :p
Last night I read:
· ALL NEW OFF HANDBOOK MARVEL UNIVERSE A TO Z #12 - Last ish.
· ANNIHILATION #5 - GO RONAN!!!
· ASTONISHING X-MEN #19 - Not bad. Mostly plot issue.
· BLACK PANTHER #23 - Intersting. Very important to CW.
· HEROES FOR HIRE #5 - A wrap up ish. Fun!
· NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE #11 - Buy 6 copies. :)
· ULTIMATE POWER #3 - Ok... not moving, but we get background info.
· WINTER SOLDIER WINTER KILLS ONE SHOT - AWESOME!!!
· WOLVERINE ORIGINS #9 - Not bad. Augie, ya know how you thought about the backstory added in DD: Father? Same here.
· LADY DEATH SACRILEGE WRAPAROUND CVR #0 - Ok.
PLUS:
FABLES Vol. 8 and FABLES: 1001 Nights of Snowfall. Both of these kicked major butt! :D

I've bought the newest 100 Bullets trade last week, and I've been going though the other ones before reading it. Started with Vol 5 and I'm up to Vol 9. Should be able to finish that today, and get into Vol 10. I'm always impressed on re-reading these how well they stand up, and how good the story fits together. Will be neat to read the series from start to finish once it's done, what, next year?
On Nextwave #11 do you really get anything from matching those pages up, or are they basically six individual two-page spreads? When reading, I kind of tried to look at them and see if they run into each other, and I couldn't really see anything. I think I'm just going to line them up at the shop tomorrow instead of buying five more copies.
I told you 1001 Nights of Snowfall was great!:D

Surprisingly, I finished reading all of the floppies on my reading pile before Christmas vacation. I'm awaiting a DCBS box and Thursday to head to my LCS before getting more of my monthly fix. In the meantime, I've got a total of 3 trades on my nightstand - Y The Last Man Vol. 7 & 8 and The Losers Vol. 4 (I think - whatever volume the last collection is).
I read Vol. 7 of Y yesterday at lunch and am looking forward to reading Vol. 8 today. Lunch can't come soon enough!

I can't wait to read Vol. 10 here shortly. Re-reading the trades before starting a new one is definitely the way to go with this series.
Here's something interesting I discovered last night (http://insidejoketheatre.blogspot.com/). I'll be the first to admit that I started reading 100 Bullets after reading Randy Lander's Snap Judgements reviews of the early issues. Checked out his blog last night and was surprised to see that he had completely pooh-poohed all over the most recent volume. I always figured to be a hard core 100 Bullets reader until the end but I guess tastes change over the course of a series even with the same two creators on the book for the duration.

100 Bullets: Usually I re-read from "The Counterfifth Detective" (Vol 5) because it's my favorite, but since I'm backed up maybe I'll only re-read the last 2 or 3.
I think I might have the recent Y tpb around too. Damn holidays... screwed up my whole reading schedule! :p

I've pretty much decided to not read any more 100 Bullets until the series is finished. I'm still buying them (mostly on eBay when I can get them cheap).
I've got nothing new to contribute to this thread as I haven't finished anything since I put all of my stuff in the December thread. A combination of Jetlag and driving to work (rather than walking which is when I do most of my reading) has slowed me down considerably

...and grabbed a few weeks worth of stuff. Last night I read:
FANTASTIC FOUR #541 - Ok, this was pretty diappointing. Started out interesting and then just goes straight to hell.
NEW AVENGERS #26 - Ok, this was cool. $10 says Wanda's knocked up.
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #103 - HA! Ok, this rocked!
DAREDEVIL #92 - Intense stuff! But if Iron Fist was playing DD for Matt, and the Kingpin's wife had someone doing it too, that means there was 2 DD's around for a while???
ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #37 - Man, I really like this arc!!!
X-MEN #194 - Still not a fan of Ramos, but I like the story!
I also grabbed 2 Lady Death books, HIKARU NO GO VOL 7 TP, and REX MUNDI #3 which were books I forgot to order but haven't read yet.

Finished Essential X-men, Vol 2 last night. Great stuff, can't wait to whittle my pile down a bit so I can get into Vol 3. Too much stuff to read first though, including the brick that is Savage Dragon Archives Vol 1, hopefully I can get to that later this week. Days of Future Past was awesome, as was all the Kitty introduction scenes. The really interesting issue in the back half is #139, the funeral of Jean Grey. Basically it's a recap of every issue of X-men. What struck me about it was how useful this would be now-a-days to get new readers caught up to speed. And now that I really think about it, could a comics company really get away with this today? Would regular buyers of a title be up in arms if a company made them pay 3 bucks to read about stories they already own? I don't know, it was just kind of an interesting look back on the way things used to be done in comics.
Also finished Hunter X Hunter Vol 12. One of my favorites now, although I'm starting to lose track of who some of the characters are. I'm a big fan of Yoshihiro Togashi's art though, so it makes up for it. This one was a bit light on fighting, and heavy on plot development. Decent popcorn manga though. Now to get through the rest of my books from last week, and my big pile of manga.

CW was good, and I can't wait for the end!
Frontline was cool too. The Penance story was freaky, although I knew how it'd end after reading #9. he, he... I for one amall for it and it'll make the T-bolts very cool!
I really like the Punisher, but THAT was a dumb@$$ move. Really, really stupid.

Got through all of my new books and most of the books from last week.
52 week 35 Aww, so sad. But some good action moments in it and some really good Montoya stuff.
Ninja Scroll #4 was weaker than the first three by a wide margin. Rushed, weak art, no explanation as to what's going on. makes me wonder if the series will have legs.
Ghost in the Shell 1.5 #3 Good stuff, wish the whole thing would be in color, but B&W is just as good. Lots of Shirow exposition on the guns he drew and the technology behind some robot insects. A little hard to follow, but that's pretty much expected when it comes to Shirow.
Runaways #23 was excellent. I'm begining to wonder if they may bring back Gert after all. A really sad and touching Molly scene though.
Jonah Hex #15 was more great Bernet art. I hope they can get him back for a few more issues. May be done with this for a while, but who knows. Good story for the last three issues.
Fear Agent #10 I think I'm done with this. It's just not as much fun as the first few issues were. Maybe if Tony Moore comes back on art, but I just don't care anymore. I like the backup more than the main story.
Ant-man #4 actually got me back on the series. I thought it was a really fun issue, and I look forward to the fight next issue.
Savage Dragon Archieve Read the first few issues of that the other day, and boy does Larsen move that story along quick. I was a little thrown off when he would make the quick scene cuts, but he did a good job of making sure the reader knows there was a scene change. Liking the art so far, as I've never really read any of his work. Wish the covers were included like in the Marvel Essentials. Good so far though.
I think that was it. Can't wait to read Augies review of Punisher War Journal, as I liked it, but was aggravated a bit at the lack of continuity between it and CW #6. Next up, probably the last JSA trade and the first two issues of the new series, then either Vol 2 and 3 of Rex Mundi, or more of the Savage Dragon archieve.

Yeah, far as I can tell, no covers. I flipped through a bit and don't remember seeing any. You can tell chapter breaks only by the titles of each story showing up. Again don't quote me on it, as I don't have the book in front of me, and have only read, I think (again, no covers) the first two issues. It's not a deal breaker, but I do miss them, if only for the chapter break.

Recently for me:
Promethea book 3 - I enjoyed some bits of this more than others, nothing was as bad as the Tarot issue and nothing was as good as the better bits. J H Williams's art was fantastic though.
She-Hulk v2: Superhuman Law - This was fun, though I wasn't as bowled over as I was with the first volume. That could be just because I knew what to expect this time. I love Juan Bobillo's art on the first couple of issues. Paul Pelletier's art is so dull and ordinary by comparison. It's amazing how much a change in the artist can make the writing seem better or worse.
Fables v6: Homelands - Another good outing for Fables - though the reveal of who the Adversary is was a bit anticlimactic. Still loving this book - especially when Mark Buckingham is on the art. I'm not too sure where the time-line is though. The first two-parter spanned four years, butI don't know where the rest of the book fits within that four year period.

I felt the same way about She-Hulk. I really enjoyed Bobillo's art, and the book just wasn't as enjoyable without it. I would pick up the book again if he was drawing it.
Homelands was awesome. One of the best storylines of the book so far. I'd have to go back and reread the series to figure out any timeline issues.
It was all JSA night last night. Got through Vol 13 of the trades. Meh. Kind of ended the series with a whimper rather than a bang, at least story wise. The art though. Good lord, three top talents in George Perez, Rags Morales, and Luke Ross. Ross' stuff was particularly beautiful. This is the kind of book that Rags needs to be on, cause he can handle the good action scens, and the quiet taking scenes. Great art, kind of weak story. Oh well.
Then I went through Justice Society of America #1 and 2. Good start, I think Geoff Johns is the best writer for these characters right now. He really understands this group and how they should work. Good art too. I think the reveal of Starman in #2 was a little underwhelming for me because it was just too much continuity I was unaware of. I could understand a bit of it, but it just lacked punch. Good enough to switch to monthlies on this though.
Finished it off by reading most of JSA All-Stars TPB. Talk about all-stars on art. Tim Sale, Eduardo Risso, Howard Chaykin, Michael Lark, Darwyn Cooke, a bunch of others on interior art. Cassaday covers, to which I have to say, if you're looking for a job once Astonishing Xmen is over, please do a JSA story or two. A great series of short stories about the new characters of the JSA and the legacy characters they're based on. If you're a fan of the JSA, pick it up. If you're a fan of a lot of great artist, check it out. It's got a great story that's easy to follow.

Here's what I have been reading over the past couple of weeks:
Astonishing X-Men #19 - I'm a nerd and picked up both covers. Nice set up for the final arc in Whedon/Cassaday's X-Men run.
Ultimate Spider-man #103 - good book. The clone saga finally is starting to make some sense.
Civil War #6 - already mentioned elsewhere that I loved it!
Irredeemable Ant-Man #4 - Sales may be low, but I think that I'm now in for the long haul on this book. How did Kirkman get this pitch approved by editorial?
Heroes for Hire #5 - I'm really starting to like this book just as Palmiotti & Gray leave...
Winter Solder: Winter Kills One-shot - Best book of the bunch. Brubaker is sooo good right now. Who would have thought that I'd ever give a damn about Bucky?
Criminal #1 ~ 3 - more Brubaker goodness. I'm going to read this book in trade from here on out.
Punisher War Journal #2 - better than the first issue. Will probably only read the Civil War tie-in issues.
Iron Man/Captain America: Casualties of War One-shot - ZZZZZZZZZ, man was this a boring book or what? What a waste of a talent like Jeremy Haun.
New Avengers #26 - Probably my least favorite issue of this series yet. Never been a Maleev art fan. Can someone explain what happened at the end of the book for me?

My recent ones:
Mary Jane v1: Circle of Friends - This was enjoyable. I'll probably pick up more volumes as they're so cheap. Also worth noting this was on shiny white paper with bright colours. Why can't the Runaways digests be printed like this?
Dark Water - Short horror stories from the writer of The Ring and - oh look the cover has a creepy little girl with straggly hair. I never thought I'd see that in a Japanese horror! The stories were decent enough though, but quite decompressed and too short to really get into.
Godland v1: Hello Cosmic - For the most part this book is a decent enough Jack Kirby throwback book. Just in the last issue though it started getting much better, so I'll be back for the next volume

I'm right there with you on this one. I was pretty dissapointed by this one, both from the art and the writing. The ending's probably something that we may or may not hear of again, and if we do hear about it again, it'll be 2-3 years from now, and no one will remember.

My guess is that Wanda's now pregnant w/ Hawkeye's kid. However, the ending was pretty vague. Either Hawk's still hanging out w/ her or he left her in Wundagore alone after not finding what he was looking for. Whatever the deal is, I'm sure it will be explained the next time we see either character.

That NEW AVENGERS ending was awful. I forgot to include that in the column this week, but it's another pretty book ruined by a pointless story. ::yawn::
Come to think of it, I've only read one comic in the last week. Finally read the PDF version of DYNAMO 5, coming out from Image in March. Nifty book. I should be reviewing it next week. Starts off simple and formulaic, but then delivers a couple of nice twists. I'm looking forward to more, and the art's nice, to boot.

Hulk 102 - YES! Hulk kicks so much @$$ it's sick!
ASM 537 - Not too bad. Mostly filler.
FF 542 - I know there are going to be people out there who don't like this, but I dug it. The use of the Mad Thinker was spot on awesome. And even though we got a bit of Reed's motivations, we know there's more (whatever they're alluding to in Frontline).

Small bunch of books this week, but I got through all the monthlies and one of the trades
Green Lantern #16: Not bad. Oh the joys of scheduling and writing for the trade. Here we see the complete new Justice League in action, and they haven't even all gotten together in thier own book. And they really need to drop the whole thing where Vixen has to say the name of the animal she's turning into, and then they show an outline of the animal she'd turning into. Just do one or the other, prefereably the outline. Another book that had a "Holy crap, did that really happen" moment. As Ron from ifanboy said, it was a week of those moments.
Testament #14: Another "Holy crap" moment, that actually lasted the whole issue, because my reaction was "Holy crap, what the hell happened to the art?" Usually I enjo Sharps work, but this was just awful. I nearly stopped reading halfay through, because I couldn't tell what was going on. I have no idea what happened with this. I'm going to check next issue, and if it looks the same, I may drop the book. It was really bad.
Ghost Rider #7: Almost as bad as Testament when it came to the art. Richard Corben may be liked by other people, but it did nothing for me. It did the job, though, and I wasn't completly lost, but I did not enjoy his art on the last two issues. Fortunatly, the regular art team is back next issue, so I don't have to drop it.
Ultimate Spiderman #104: A decent ending to the clone saga. How long will it take for Gyrich to show up in Ultimate Xmen? A few good moments in this one. You know the last page won't change that much, otherwise, no book, but it could lead to some interesting stories. I think that tempered my shock from that. Plus, when will the survivors show up again?
Ultimate X-men #78: Again, a holy crap reduced by having read to many comics. Great ending though, and another big change in the direction. This is one of Kirkman's hits, rather than one of his misses. Won't ruin it for trade readers though.

I cant wait for the trade on Uncanny Xmen. Probably should have jumped on the monthly when the story started, but I was just too unsure of the artist, and wasn't blown away by Bru's work on Deadly Genesis. I've heard a lot of good things though. Since they haven't solicited the first six issues, I'm assuming they're going to collect the whole 12 issues in one book.
Runaways was great. I just hope Joss can keep up the quality, and I'm worried how Michael Ryan will live up to Adrian Alphona. I hope the quality doesn't go down, and I hope Ryan can keep up with the monthly schedule.
Read Bone Vol 5 the other day. I love seeing these books in color. Not that I didn't enjoy them originally in black and white, but the colorists are doing such a good job, that it's just great to read these over again. Pick these up if you're a fan of the original, or if you've never read them before. Maybe they'll do a One Volume color edition once this is all done?
Also finished Crying Freeman Vol 4, which has been sitting for a while. Not bad, lots of sex and violence. It reads really quick, for being such a thick book. Definetly not for the kids or the faint of heart, as there is a TON of sex, especially in this volume, most of it graphic. Actually a bit more graphic than I usually enjoy, but it's still pretty good, and manga classic.

I, for one, am loving the art on Uncanny. It would make sense to put the whole arc in 1 trade. Just save your pennies and it'll be worth the wait.
Ryan has been pretty quick with the issues, if memory serves. I'm sure Runaways will have a different feel to it, but I'm more interested in the colors. Are they going to stay with the soft pallate or go with something brighter?
The 1 vol BONE is 1 of the books I have yet to read, but is in house. I saw the color version at my LCS this week and you're right - the quality is top-notch.
If I see Crying Freeman on sale somewhere I'm grabbing it. Sex + violence = :D

Yeah, Runaways just worries me, becuase I so identify the creators with that book. Anytime someone else draws them, they just don't look right. Miyazawa does them pretty close, but that's about it, although Skottie Young did a pretty good version in the FCBD book, his at least had the energy needed. The colors will be something to look at. It's kind of the same way with Young Avengers, I want to see Heinberg and Cheung on that book, and pretty much no one else. I miss that book. Damn you Heinberg!! for writng for TV. Come write more comics. Anywho, well see how Runaways goes. No solicit for March, so do we know when the Whedon/Ryan run will start? Maybe BKV and Alphona will miss thier creation after a while and come back to it. What's Alphona going to do anyways?

Finished Savage Dragon Archives Vol. 1 last night. I enjoyed it. Never read any Savage Dragon, and little Eric Larsen work before, but I'm down for the second Archive, which I was happy to see in the new Image solicits. Nice to see they're not wasting time between these. Maybe, they'll put them out fast enough to get me caught up to the new issues. It was good fun comics, though, and I enjoyed Larsen's art style. The two issues where the Dragon battles Overlord in pinups were awesome, and an actual good use of that technique, in terms of the scope and the pacing. I also liked the little comics references, like the issue where Larsen does a pretty mean Sin City riff with the Dragon as Marv, and Johnny Redbeard's Nixed Men. Hilarious. Larsen's artwork translated well to the b&w, although it got a little muddy in parts where there was just too much going on. The lack of chapter breaks, was a little jarring at first, but really, the issues collected here are one long story, and each issue leads into the next. I just like to have the chapter breaks so I know a good place to stop. By the way, all the front covers of the individual issues are presented on the back cover, so you do get to see them at least. Overall, a solid B+, and I'm down for Vol 2.

I still love those early Dragon issues. Wasn't that issue Larsen's homage to Walter Simonson's run on Thor or something like that?
I've yet to see the Archives anywhere. Does it also contain the initial mini-series along with the first 25 issues of the ongoing?

If it was an homage to Simonson's Thor, I wouldn't recognize it, having never read that Thor run (or much of Thor at all.) It wouldn't suprize me if it was, what with the number of comic book inside jokes that are dropped in Savage Dragon.
The archive does have the orginal mini, and then issues 1-22 of the series. It has a nice lieelt stopping point there.

I'm not sure if that was an homage to anything. I know that Marvel did a Silver Surfer GN with Lee / Bucema that was all splashes in the 80's called JUDGMENT DAY:

John Byrne actually did it first, in a Hulk story for Marvel Fanfare, but Simonson's Thor story hit the stands before that issue of Marvel Fanfare did. The Silver Surfer OGN was a few years later.

I believe Erik has said in the past that the issue was his homage to Simonson, in that it was all pin-ups with frequent use of the "DOOM" sound effect.

In the past week(ish) I've read:
Ministry of Space - This was a decent little miniseries. The ending was a little abrupt and made me think a page was missing at first. It's still better than any of the 3 issue minis that Ellis did for Wildstorm though. One thing though - I had the Titan edition so the Image one might have been different, but the covers were really thin - practically paper. You'd have thought when they're charging £9 for a three issue mini they could afford to put a decent weight of card on the cover
Batgirl: Destruction's Daughter - Not as good as the previous Gabriech (sp?) volume (or as the Kelly Pucket ones) but it did have a good twist halfway through - which it then took in a really silly direction - and it did have a fairly satisfying end to the Batgirl story which set up the possibility of her current status quo better than I expected.
The Goon v4: Virtue and the Grim Consequences Thereof - This is the first Goon book I've read. It was fun. It felt more like Mike Alred's Madman to me than anything else.
The Flash #6 - Rubbish
Light Brigade - I enjoyed this and Snejbjerg's art is always welcome. I'm not sure I feel quite the same level of love for it as I've seen from people on these boards - and from all of the quotes plastered all over the back and inside front cover. Still good though
Fables #57-Nice Allred artwork. The story read a little fast for me though.
Invincible #38-Great ending! I've been waiting for that.
Invincible Handbook #2-Just looked over the artwork which was all top notch. I'll read through it later when I have more free time.
Doctor Strange:The Oath #4-I'm mad at Vaughan for making me like Dr.Strange since I know Marvel wouldn't do much with him after this. Even when they do the creators that work with him usually do a poor job.
Crossing Midnight #3-So far so good. I'd like a different artist on the book though.

52, week 38: Not bad, focused a lot on Montoya and Question getting up a hill, but I'm still unsure if both will come down. It was a little confusing. The Will Magnus stuff was good though
Punisher War Journal #3: Decent, but not great. See the other thread for my thoughts on it.

Eternals #6 says to all your Civil War comics: BURN!! A really good issue, with an awesome two page spread, but that last page was awesome in it's Civil War commentary. That page will read weird in twenty years if somebody finds this, though.
Dr. Strange: Oath #4 gets ironic quote of the week. Dr. Strange: "This is why I never joined the Avengers." Another great issue, with a shocking ending.
Also read the new issues of:
Criminal - Good escalation of the plot. A bit sad in parts, but still great. A meal of a comic.
DMZ - Awesome.
Fables - Allred art! He has a weird looking Bigby though.
Civil War: The Return - Not bad. Decent art, but kind of crap writing. The Sentry story has an interesting resolution to the fight though. And the character who returned (no spoliers from me) came back in a way that made sense, but the timeline was a little weird.
X-factor - Great as usual. A brutal ending, and very dark throughout, but still had good comedic bits as well.
Moon Knight - Another good ending for this week. Some good bits with continuity, and a new mystery villian. Going to miss Finch when he's off the book. Hope he finds something interesting to draw next.

Here's what I've read since the last time that I posted in this thread. This also knocks out all of the single issues that I have sitting on my reading pile!
New Avengers: Illuminati #1 - Nice art from Jim Cheung and an OK story from Reed/Bendis. Any idea what is up with this title? It's listed as a mini-series, but so far only the first 2 issues have been solicited.
Sensational Spider-Man #34 - Loved Sean Chen's version of the Rhino. This may be my favorite Spidey title right now due to the overwhelming use of Spidey's old rogues/supporting characters.
Ultimate Spider-Man #104 - I was very satisfied with the conclusion of the Ultimate Clone Saga.
Birds of Prey #102 - I've been pleasantly surprised how much I have been enjoying the Canary-less BOP and Nicola Scott's artwork. This book is at the top of my reading pile each month.
Green Lantern #16 - Why isn't Geoff Johns writing JLA? I loved his take on them in this issue. As I still consider myself a GL newbie, I'm very much enjoying this book. Ivan Reis' art is a big draw for me right now.
The Killer #2 - loved the art effects at the end of the issue to symbolize the assassins fragile state of mind.
Okko #1 - some parts of the art were a little hard to decipher, but overall an enjoyable first issue. Hooked me enough to pick up the whole mini.
Union Jack #1~4 - just as good the second time around. I've loved the 2 books that I read from Gage and am looking forward to whatever he's got planned with Mike Perkins next.
Rokkin #1~6 - I'm not sure a lot of people read this book (think it was solicited as ongoing but changed to mini by the time issue #3 shipped), but I'm a fantasy nerd and really enjoyed it. Standard fantasy story, but Nick Bradshaw's highly detailed art was what kept me interested until the end.
Punisher War Journal #3
Justice Society of America #1 ~2 - Wow! I had never read an issue of JSA in my life but these were two very good issues. Even though I didn't know who most of the characters were, Johns may have hooked me again (he did the same thing to me when I first started reading The Flash when he took it over with Scott Kolins). Between this and Green Lantern, I'm very happy to have two books from Geoff Johns that I am going to read on a monthly basis.
Invincible #38 - how about that cliffhanger?
52 Week 33 ~ 38 - read in one sitting in the hotel last night and I'll have to say again that it's fun to read on a weekly basis, but knocking a whole bunch of issues at one time works even better.

I didn't read as much as I wanted to this weekend, I got too caught up in playing Final Fantasy III. I did read acouple of good ones though.
300 I finally broke down and baughtit on Friday. Loved it, can't wait for the movie. It read pretty quick, but had nice art and some really great coloring to it. I loved the landscape format for it. While I don't think it would work for everything thing, I'd like to see Miller do something else in the format. Or maybe have Joe Kubert do a WWII epic in that style. Or Romita Jr., he could put that layout to it's fullest potential.
Blade of the Immortal Vol. 16, Shortcut Read the latest BotI trade. Really a weird one, as it kind of dealt with Manji, but it was really more about two new characters. I was confused through a lot of it though. I need to read these from the beginning in a short amount of time, so the story stays fresh. Some great art, and I think some of my favorite cover images, particularly the severed hand cover. Nice to see Dark Horse has the new trade solicited, but does that mean it's advanced solicited for sometime in September.
Of next year.:D

I finally started the latest Y: THE LAST MAN Vol. 8, "Kimono Dragons" and of course it's awesome. Still have about 1/2 left to read.
Polished off the new GHOST RIDER tpb and Rucka's last WONDER WOMAN tpb. I liked 'em both, but I'm really taking a liking to this incarnation of GR. Lots of possibilities. The last WW was good, but I just wish the reprint values were higher on some of the DC trades. Good story tho, and it really puts WW in a different light than when I started reading it. Fun, even though it's sad, stuff.
Also read 2 Lady Death books (not bad) and Spidey: REIGN. Reign is like DKR + the anime Metropolis + CW stuff. Interested to see how it plays out.

I re-read FEAR AGENT #1 ~ 10 over the past couple of days. With the shipping delays that this book has experienced since it first launched in October 2005, it was good to go back and read from the beginning. There were bits and pieces that I missed/didn't pick up the first time around so that was kind of fun. The typos still annoy the crap out of me. Also, I initially thought that I was going to have trouble reading this book without either Tony Moore or Cory Walker (speaking of which, I completely forgot that I got the Ashcan from my LCS when it was first released and think that it's interesting that that is the only place we'll ever see some CW drawn Heath Huston - I wonder what happened that made him leave the book?), but I'm really digging Jerome Opena's art nowadays. His first couple of issues were a little rough, but he seemed to hit his stride around issue #7 or 8. With the 2 TPB being solicited by Dark Horse for shipping sometime in mid-2007, I wonder when we can expect to see the return of the ongoing series?

One last time for this month. I'm almost completly caught up with stuff. Got through Rex Mundi Vol's 1, 2, and 3 last night. Awesome! It was a little weird as I first read the two new issues of the new series, then waited for all three volumes of the earlier issues to come out. I loved Ferreyra's art in those two issues, and was a little supprised to find that the earlier issues were drawn by someone different. However, the earlier work by Eric J is just as good, while still different. Eric J does all the art on the first two volumes, and then the first two issues in the third volume. The 3 and 4th issues in volume 3 were a little wonky in the art department. I didn't really enjoy them, but then Ferreyra takes over for the final two issues, and his stuff is great.
The mystery of the book has really drawn me in, I stayed up pretty late last night finishing volume 3 because it had just drawn me in. I can't decide whether I should just wait for a fourth volume or if I should find issue three and four(when it comes out). It's a really good story. My enjoyment may be helped by not having read or seen The Da Vinci Code, but I would think that people who enjoyed that would be into this. It's the same kind of story, but has a more political angle, and there's a lot of revisionist history in it. Plus, magic, which is not terribly important, but does show up through out the book.
There's not a ton of extras in the books. Volume one has a nice back up story that ties into volume 3(kind of). Each issue has a fake newspaper at the end that usually goes into what happened in the past issue. The newspapers give some interesting insight into the world that the book takes place in. And then there are some decent pin-up at the back, but that's pretty much it.
I'd recommend these books to anyone who enjoy's historical fiction, or mystery fans.

Glad to hear you like Rex Mundi goman! I jumped on board with #1 and haven't looked back. I comtted to reading it in issues and have been extremely happy with how it progresses. There are some extras in the issues, like maps of how the countries are laid out - are they in the tpb's?
Last night I got in my DCBS box and went to town! I read:
· PREVIEWS VOL XVII #2 - gave it a once over.
· ALL NEW OFF HB MARVEL UNIV A Z UPDATE #1 - read a few entries
· CIVIL WAR THE RETURN - It's ok. I'm not upset or anything, but the details as to what his purpose or what they're gonna do with him haven't been revelaed yet.
· DOCTOR STRANGE OATH #4 - AWESOME!!! If you aren't reading this, WHY NOT!?!
· HEROES FOR HIRE #6 - Pretty cool.
· MOON KNIGHT #7 - I like it! :)
· PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL #3 - It's ok. I don't think it "conflicts" with anything, just shows more / less than other issues of CW.
· SILENT WAR #1 - Very stylized art, but the story is NUTTY!!!
· X-FACTOR #15 - Great issue! This title is really clicking...

Yeah, the maps are included at the front of each volume, I think. I know they have them in 2 and 3, can't imagine they wouldn't include the map in volume 1. I'm glad I read it in one big chunk. I would think the mystery would be a little easier to follow in trades rather than monthlies.

Down to the wire here for me as well.
Losers Vol. 5 TP: Endgame - I didn't hate this as much as I remember Eric did, but it definitely wasn't the satisfying conclusion to this series that I was looking for.
The Walking Dead #34 - A fast read. A good read. And not the ending that I was expecting...just yet.
52 Week 39 - Was a little confused when I saw the "Montoya Fights a Dragon!" on the cover and there was no Question/Montoya story in this week's issue. Also, what was up with the out of sequence stories? I'm sure that it had something to do with the Luthor bit being more dramatic but it seemed a bit weird to me. Otherwise, I'm definitely back on the 52 express as it roars to its conclusion.
Wasteland #6 - This book will read great in trades, but I love getting to the end of the book and then thinking that I have to wait another 30 days before I can read the next installment.

Last night I FINALLY read the new SQUADRON SUPREME HC. I got in the Nighthawk tpb last week and read that, so this is finally up. I liked it a lot and other than setting all the characters and the general layout up quite well it certaily hinted at plenty of ways this could be going. Can't wait for the next HC!
1 think that did cheeze me off was that they put the "recap issue" (this came out before the new #1 and recapped everything from the 1-18 series and the 3 mini's) at the BACK of the book! Why? This should have been front and center! I did recall just about all of the important details anyhow, but why put a recap AFTER everything? Ugh...
Also started GOTHAM CENTRAL Vol 3 and so far so good. And I found JSA #2 in a pile and read that too - not bad. I liked it better than the 1st issue, I think. I'm 1/2 and 1/2 about this book...

Yeah, this weeks 52 wasn't quite as exciting as the last few have been, but it was a lot of set up for the end. What are Dibny and Fate up to? Next weeks should be a good one.
I decided not to read Wasteland #6 last night, but I broke out the first five issues, and I'm going to read them this weekend.
Did read Jack of Fables #7 last night. This is exactly what the series should be, Jack acting like a bastard. Loved it. Last of the month was the new issue of Ex Machina which was good, but I wish they hadn't started a new storyline before spending a few months on special issues. It was it's usual goodness, with some weird sci-fi mixed in this time.
