According to Mark Evanier (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2007_01_01.html#012690), Robert Schaefer, a prolific writer for TV and comics, died on December 14th at the age of 80. He and his partner Eric Freiwald wrote many licensed comics for Gold Key between 1957 and 1965, including some of the early issues of Magnus.
I don't know anything about the nature of Schaefer and Freiwald's collaboration with Russ Manning, but those early Magnus stories were uniformly brilliant and well-dialogued. According to Mark, Schaefer and Freiwald were Chase Craig's most valued writers. It's a pity that Mr. Schaefer is not better remembered today.
May he rest in peace.
