I was (surprisingly enough) listening to some Dylan the other day when it occured to me that Dylan's choice of lyrics are so clever and so famous that I think people would be able to identify a Dylan song merely by TWO words.
So, well, I figured I'd try it out. Here are twenty two word snippets from Dylan songs. Twenty different songs. All of the songs are pretty notable Dylan songs (all of them were on Greatest Hits compilations except one or two, but the exceptions are famous, I assure you).
Name the song that each snippet is from!
1. Cowboy Mouth
2. Barefoot Servants
3. Her Amphetamine
4. Fish Truck
5. Philosophize Disgrace
6. Chosen Speed
7. Sweet Melinda
8. Fleet Foot
9. Railroad Gin
10. Never Knowed
11. Guilty Undertaker
12. Homemade Dress
13. Expecting Rain
14. Foggy Ruins
15. Brass Bed
16. Hysterical Bride
17. Seasick Sailors
18. Dime Stores
19. Miss Lonely
20. Charity Organizations

Awesome challenge. Some of them leapt out at me, some of them got stuck somewhere in the back synapses for a while, and some I'll have to admit myself cluless about.
1. Cowboy Mouth
No idea.
2. Barefoot Servants
I want to say this is in "Like a Rolling Stone," but that's also later in the list, and I kind of doubt you doubled up. "Positively 4th Street," maybe?
3. Her Amphetamine
Easy. . . "Just Like a Woman." It's one of Dylan's most memorable line readings.
4. Fish Truck
Huh. No clue.
5. Philosophize Disgrace
Shoot. I'm weak on early (pre-1966) Dylan. I think this is from Bringing It All Back Home, but I couldn't say which song.
6. Chosen Speed
"It Ain't Me, Babe." I had to sing it for a while in the Turtles' version to get it.
7. Sweet Melinda
Sounds like the title to a song, doesn't it? No idea.
8. Fleet Foot
"Subterranean Homesick Blues." Almost didn't catch it.
9. Railroad Gin
It's a very familiar phrase, but I can't place it. Is it from somewhere on Blonde on Blonde?
10. Never Knowed
"Don't Think Twice, It's All Right." This time Bryan Ferry's version was in my head.
11. Guilty Undertaker
No, wait, this is from "Positively 4th Street."
12. Homemade Dress
For some reason I'm thinking "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands," but that's probably wrong.
13. Expecting Rain
"Desolation Row." It's one of the more memorably mysterious images.
14. Foggy Ruins
Again, familiar, but can't place it. I wanna say it's from John Wesley Harding, but I'm probably talking out my ass.
15. Brass Bed
"Lay, Lady, Lay." Not very hard; it's in the chorus.
16. Hysterical Bride
Not ringing a single bell.
17. Seasick Sailors
Isn't this from "Desolation Row" too? ". . . they are trying to blow it up." It scans, but something tells me that's not right.
18. Dime Stores
"Love Minus Zero/No Limit."
19. Miss Lonely
"Like a Rolling Stone." Again, one of Dylan's more memorable performances.
20. Charity Organizations
Can't place it, although I can hear the words in my head. It's from "Bringing It All Back Home" or earlier, with spare instrumentation. Maybe even a talking blues.
Now to see how I did...
EDIT: AAARGH! I knew "Foggy Ruins" when I first went down the list, but forgot it by the time I was writing.
FURTHER EDIT: Well, I was schooled.

See? Isn't that awesome, that you can get twenty out of twenty correct?
His lyrics are so freaking famous!
And yeah, Jonathan, good point about Brass Bed, that probably was a bit cheesy. :)

By the by, it was Cowboy Mouth that got me. I was listening to Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands a lot (since I recommended it awhile back on the obscure song thread, I figured I ought to listen to it again, as I hadn't in awhile :)), and that line hit me as "Wow, that is such a bizarre turn of phrase that I bet people would recognize it right away."

1. Cowboy Mouth -- Nope.
2. Barefoot Servants -- All Along the Watchtower
3. Her Amphetamine -- Just Like a woman
4. Fish Truck -- Nyuh-uh
5. Philosophize Disgrace -- The Lonesome Ballad of Hattie Carol.
6. Chosen Speed - It Ain't Me Babe
7. Sweet Melinda -- The Peasents call her the Goddess of Gloom... Something Something... Up to her Room. Forget the song though. The next verse is If You See Sweet Annie, tell her thanks a lot. And then there's Sgt. at Arms, leaving his post, takes your voice, howling at the moon...
Fuck! I know the whole song but the chorus.
8. Fleet Foot -- Nope.
9. Railroad Gin -- Stuck inside a mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.
10. Never Knowed - Nothing.
11. Guilty Undertaker -- I Want You.
12. Homemade Dress -- No.
13. Expecting Rain -- Desolation Row?
14. Foggy Ruins -- Tambourine Man
15. Brass Bed -- Lay Lady Lay
16. Hysterical Bride -- Tombstone Blues
17. Seasick Sailors -- It's All Over Now, Baby Vlue
18. Dime Stores
19. Miss Lonely -- Rolling Stone?
20. Charity Organizations -- Mr. Jones.
And I guess "Tangled Up In Blue" for all the ones I didn't get.

Oh, I'm sure, but the key here is just how NOT that hard this is, for Dylan fans.
I mean, for crying out loud, it's just TWO WORDS, and yet I bet they just totally jumped out at you, right?
Just like it did for the other fellas, too, just not as much.
Dylan is so awesome.
