Hey, I just got the PS3 for Christmas. I didn't have any PS3 games for it yet so I decided that I'd just pop in one of my PS2 games. So I put in Spider-Man 2. But then in popped up that I needed a DualShock 2 controller. So I figured, no problem, I kept my PS2, I'll just run downstairs and get it. But then I realized, the only slots for controllers on the PS3 are USB ones. So is there any way that I can get some adapter for the PS2 controllers to go into the PS3 (USB) slots? Thanks!

PS3 controllers aren't compatible with PS2 games? Odd decision...
I assume there'd an adaptor in that case..there'd have to be. Check EBgames or Gamestop. I'd check for you, but I'm already looking at porn and my dial-up connection can only handle so much

There have been adaptor's for years, just they're intended for PC use not PS2 use and places like EB don't carry them, I guess so they can sell overpriced dualshock wannabe controllers for PCs. Just google PS2 adaptor USB and you'll find one.

I've had zero problems with my PS3. In fact, it has worked perfectly. The PS3 controllers work for PS1 and PS2 games. You can't use PS2 controllers for the PS3 because the PS3 controllers connect to the system with a USB cable. However, the controllers are identical to the PS2 ones with the exception that there is no vibration function. Also, the PS3 controllers have the "six-axis" feature that allow for motion control.
The memory card adaptor allows you to create virtual memory cards on the PS3 hard drive that contain game save info from your PS1 and PS2 memory cards (PS3 game info is saved directly to the hard drive). This is really intuitive and easy to do. You can then easily assign which card you want to use if you are playing a PS1 or PS2 game and save new info from that game to the virtual memory card.
I have played several of my PS2 games on my PS3, including playing them online, and it has worked incredibly well. I'm really happy with the PS3. Everything that I have used on it so far (PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, playing DVDs, playing CDs and copying music to the hard drive, using both the wireless and wired connection) has been flawless. My only complaint is the lack of games for it at this point. But I have all my old PS2 games (and some I haven't played yet) to keep me occupied.

Actually, that's not too suprising. I found that some PS2 games, like Burnout 3, don't work at all with PSOne Dual Shocks.

Not yet. You can save the info saved on PS1 and PS2 memory cards to the PS3 hard drive by creating virtual memory cards on the PS3. You still play PS1 and PS2 games by inserting the respective discs for those games in the PS3. There is a feature to download PS1 games to the PS3 from the PlayStation Store, but right now they can only be played on the PSP. I know, doesn't make much sense.
