Whenever I see Tony Stark walking around and read his word ballons, I hear the voice of Jonathan Frakes saying his lines.

Does anyone else think that Frakes' Characters on Star Trek:TNG(Cmdr. Riker) and Gargoyles (Xanatos) match up with Tony Stark's character?

I suppose I can see it with Xanatos, they're both wealthy industrialists with suits of powered armor.

Riker, not so much. I guess they both have goatees.

I actually only hear Robert Hays voice (Ted Striker from Airplane!) since he did the 90's Iron Man cartoons. He was also the voice actor for Iron Man in the Spider-Man Secret Wars storyline.

Perfect voice for him too.

I think that at one point in time, every Iron Fan on Earth has seen Timothy Dalton as Stark in their minds!! LOL.... that and Tom Selleck, who happens to be playing Starks father in the movie...

I could totally see Jonathan Frakes as Tony Stark. But he'd have to shed some weight first.

And he does have the perfect Tony Stark voice. Yeah, shed some weight. I'd rather see Frakes then Robert Downey Jr. But then again, the movie role would be at the beginning or Iron Man's career, so Frakes is a little too old now.

he always sounds like Ted McGinley (Jefferson Darcy from Married with Children) to me.

Jonathon Frakes was a dud in TNG...not a credible actor at all IMO...so no,no,no I definately do not see him as Iron Man. It's all a moot point anyways as they already made a very credible casting selection in choosing Robert Downey Jr for the role.

Robert Downey Jr. is probably going to be an awesome Tony Stark. Why? he's a damn fine versatile actor. I betcha he'll read at least the essentials to get an idea of his character. Ever seen any of his early work? It's probably the reason he got into drugs, "method acting" for Less Than Zero.

I guarantee the movie is going to use the boozer thing. Robert Downey Jr. can play a druggie, and a boozer at their worst is the same.

And Yes, Jonathan Frakes is too fat to play Iron Man. As well as too old. I think he was too fat as of the last couple seasons of TNG too.

Not me. Because other than them having mustaches, they never fit the character. Hey, I can grow a mustache, does that mean I can be Iron Man?

Check it out, Tick with a mustache.

Edit: No, seriously, can anyone name me a qualification for Dalton or Selleck, other than their facial hair?

I could see either Timothy Dalton or Jonathan Frakes, atleast his voice but not Robert Downey Jr. or Tom Selleck as Iron Man. Tom Selleck doesn't have the right voice for the part. It is a really whiney sounding voice and annoys me.

I could see Jonathan Frakes as IM. But first you would have to invent a time machine and go back about 15 years.

A younger Jonathan Frakes would have been great, almost perfect for Captain Marvel/Shazam. Frakes always had that good-natured guy quality about him.

I would have gone with James Remar (Dexter, Sex and the City) but he is to much of a B actor I guess. He has the build, voice and talent to be Iron Man. Downey I don't know how scary his quasi-mench voice is going to sound in the Armor.

Mmmmandrin I am going to em erm flurm take you down, okay

I think people had Tom Selleck in mind because he and Tony shared the same look in the '80's.

As for Downey, he's a good actor and he has his own personal stuff to draw on for the role. It's kind of perfect, really.

That was exactly my first thought on Jonathan Frakes as Tony Stark.

Back in the early and mid-1990s, I think that Jonathan Frakes would've made a good Tony Stark, but the movie's SFX wouldn't have been nearly as good as SFX are today; and today, although SFX are a lot better than they were in the early 1990s - I hate to say it, but I think that Jonathan Frakes' days of playing younger leading men are over. :(

I would really like to see him as a captain or other leading character in a new Star Trek series, though.

Or as Obidiah Stane. I could definitely buy Jonathan Frakes as Obidiah Stane.

I liked to think as George Clooney for Iron Man, but Batman and Robin ruined that for me.

Who's the actor from the Sci Fi channel series "Eureka"? I forgot his name but the character he plays is named Stark. The character also has the look and happens to be the head of a breakthrough technologies cabal/corporation. Not to mention, the actor does a good job of playing someone who's a dick but not really evil.

Except it wasn't until significantly after B&R that I realized he'd make the perfect Stark.

Except TC wasn't Magnum's bodyguard, there was no mustached snob hanging around Tony (I'm assuming you mean Jarvis, but he has no mustache, and never was much of an Iron Man character), and Iron Man has about two decades on Magnum.

Ahhh I dunno.

Frakes has the acting chops of a woodpecker y'know. He's a handsome fellow but dynamic is not a word I'd used to describe his thespian abilities.

Oh, I don't know. Look at William Shatner. He's been very successful despite his acting abilities for years.

I think I llike Frakes more since the beard, cause he looked just too clean cut in the original episodes.

So, given his ability to be fierce, demanding, pleasant, and charming... I can see him as Tony Stark. I'd vote for him. (But as Captain America, he was a wash out. What a stinker of a movie that was!)
