Justice 9 is out, 2 weeks late  but at least it's here.
This is a strange issue, it seems a bit disjointed.
Summary After a few issues of inactivity the heroes go back on the offensive going after Grodd, this turns out to be a trap (Capt Cold was a walking bug who let the villains hear everything) Captain Marvel is taken over and Grodd is armed with a Sinestro-type power ring. Brilliant 2 page spread of power ring Grodd vs. half the JLA.
The heroes win however and eventually free Marvel. there's a gorgeous Superman/Marvel fight outside the gates of the fortress of solitiude.
Finally the heroes armor themselves to take on the villains and we get a great 2 page spread of everyone in armor, bat armor, metal-men turned into armor, power ring armor, atomic knight armor, amazon armor, atlantian armor, armor, armor, armor. Very nice designs.
I think I see where DCs 2007 action figures will be coming from.
And finally Luthor shows up saying everything is going fine.
Problems the story is a bit uneven here. Early on the heroes realize they can't take on the villains without being taken over, yet they attack Grodd without protection and lose Captain Marvel.
No worries though since the heroes get him back a few pages later when he attacks the fortress. Which makes little sense since why was he attacking alone, why not send Black Atom, Mary, Junior, Supergirl etc, etc... Perhaps Luthor's cryptic remarks at the end will clear this up.
Similarly at one point Superman says Luthor is under Braniac's control since he would never agree to a plan like this, but later he says this is a plan to divide the human race between Luthor and Braniac.
And I should say I'm still irked by Aquaman and Green Lantern being saved through some clumsy deus ex machinas. Grrr. DIVINE INTERVENTION WAS A HOKEY CLICHE 2500 YEARS AGO!
Overall this is still one of my favorite series and the only one I'll trek across town to buy as a monthly. And after the stagnation and deus ex machinas of the last few issues this was a refeshing step forward.
And Armored JLA is COOL
But I think it needed a bit more editing, some of the disjoints in the plot really hurt.
Speculation I expect a major battle between heroes and their mind controlled proteges next issue. The battle between Marvel and his sidekicks was very well done and quite intelligent.
Things still look bad for the heroes, armor or no armor since Luthor still has many cards to play. So far they've been behind and I've seen nothing that shows them retaking the initiative.
However the Joker is inside one of the villain's cities and that should be fun.
