After a search I didnt come up with any results for this, so I thought I would post a thread.

Did anyone read SMT: Sleep of Reason? I thought it was pretty good. I liked the art and the writing, and the new Sandman has potential to be great.

Spoilers

The book opens with the kidnapping of a very old Dian Belmont, who is in Afganastan circa 1997 with Wesley Dodds for reasons that I didnt pick up on. I dont know if they were stated in the book. Flash forward ten years and we meet Kieran Marshall, also in Afganistan, who is a photographic journalist on the front lines of the War on Terror. We find out that Kieran is trying to set up an interview with the mysterious Masad, an international terrorist-leader. Masad is so mysterious that people even question his exsistence. Well, Kieran does get his interview, and boy does it go wrong! He is kidnapped by Masad's men, taken to their lair and finds out that he is being used as bait for the American soldiers who will inevitably come after him. Kieran, hero that he is, cant stand by and lead his fellow countrymen into a trap, tries to fight his way out. Along the way he finds a familiar gasmask and gas-gun. The last scene in the issue is Kieran, now on fire, jumping out a window and two starangers offering forboding words as they loom over his unconcious body.

End Spoilers.

I know my recap is cruddy, but I am quite tired and I dont have the issue in front of me. What did you guys think?

I'm more intrigued than really gushing about this first issue. I liked it and kind of glad that they are going forward with a new Sandman than rehashing/or going back to telling Wesly's adventures. I'll get the next issue with hopefully more of this new Sandman and see what they have in store for him.

Read it and loved it. It moves the character forward without slighting the original, and that's quite an accomplishment. Two thumbs up!

Too early to tell.

The first issue didn't do anything for me. But, this is a mini-series. There could be a pay-off later! So I'm going to just... wait and see.

"The sleep of reason" produces monsters. A hero without a heart is a monster. Uh, I hope that doesn't mean Wesley's going to go on a violent rampage to get Dian back. You know, cutting out Masad's eye, something like that.

...I think the new Sandman's going to be about "criminals are a cowardly and superstitious lot" -- if you do evil you'll have nightmares about this guy. If you do terror you'll know terror. The Sandman as a terrorist fighter? Is the new one even going to solve mysteries?

A cult seems to be involved so maybe this Sandman will have mystical powers?

Can't wait to see the new costume.

Aside from the intrigue, I really liked the art.

I'll be staying aboard this one until the end.
