On going back and rereading the survey rules, I've decided that the wording is vague. I said the character had to have appeared in at least one original comic book to be eligible and that only their comic book appearances could be considered in making your choices. By those rules, Joe Rice's pick of Charlie Brown was eligible. I did not say that reprints of newspaper strips in comic book form were ineligible in that post, though that was my intent. I want to apologize to Joe for the misunderstanding and encourage him to post the rest of his list as is.

That's a nice post. The relationship between Newspaper strips and comic book reprints can sometimes cause difficulties. A Floyd Gottfriedson fan for example, is very likely to quote Mickey Mouse as one of his favourite characters. A lot of Gottfriedson's classic work was first published as newspaper strips, but it is possible, and given the timespan very likely, that our fan was not even born at the time and read all the stories on the later comic book reprints.

I'm not going to change my list now, but I'm still confused... I love Charlie Brown but I've never read any of his comic book appearances. I love him from the strips. According to what you just wrote, doesn't that mean I can't pick him?
