Actually, I wanted to include the character of U.N.C.L.E. agent Ilya Kuryakin as one of my favourite comic book characters. Had I done so, Ilya would probably have come in #6 or #7, displacing Lothar at the end. It would have been a legal choice under CEI-U's rules because my knowledge of "The Man from UNCLE" as a teenager was entirely via Gold Key comics and a British publisher (might have been World Adventure Library) who published many adventures in b/w Digest sized comic books; we did not have TV back then. But I decided to leave Ilya Kuryakin out of my list because I was aware that most others would know of him through the TV programmes and might query the choice. Still, I'd like this to go on record.:)

Personally, I would say that you should have placed ol' Ilya in there, Hintermann. That many would have performed a double-take and you would have had to explain what you've just explained here is neither here nor there. It's a legal choice.

There's a near-parallel in my top twelve: Donald Duck is in there and Daffy Duck isn't. Were there a list of favourite animated cartoon characters based upon their appearances in animated cartoons, this would be the other way around (this may be being unfair to the creators of the Daffy Duck comicbook, which I've never owned or read an issue of).

I did not want to start a debate. I have gone past Ilya's intended position anyway and my top 4 are very definite comic book characters and personal favorites.

As I explained, I never got even near a TV till I was 29 years old in 1984. But I had a huge comic collection and so my favourites were pretty well established. Although I have seen some TV shorts of Daffy Duck, they are few and far between. I own several Dell & Gold Key comics featuring him both as the main character and in a supporting role.

Although I have chosen 5 'funny animal' characters out of the bottom 8 thus far, there is only one more to follow out of the top 4. But he is so far above the rest that if we had worked on a points system, he would get more than 10 times the remaining 11 characters combined.
