Hey there everyone... I thought that I'd throw out an idea for discussion. I'm not far from putting out a new sketchbook ( 8 1/2" x 11" this time ).. It will be soft cover with about 40 pages.. I'm considering making a small number ( maybe 50 or 75 ) hardcover copies that would have an ORIGINAL sketch... or perhaps a hand pressed 4 color print.

My question is... How many of you would be interested in such a "hi-end" edition, and which added feature sounds more intersting to you..? Would you rather have more printed pages in color as a bonus..?

Regular soft cover editions will likely cost about 15.00 .. with hardcovers obviously costing more depending on what added feature(s) I go with....

Lemme know what you think... I'd love to hear from my gang!

a limited run hardcover sounds great. personally, i'd rather have a few extra pages of color. maybe a mix of both digital and traditional coloring... i'm still in love with that purple smidge (yes, smidge not smudge) on the Mysterio piece you did.

Wow.. O.K.. this is going to be interesting.. I'm going to have to make up my mind as to what added features I'm going to have for this sketchbook... though from the response here they might not last all that long.... What I think that im going to do is offer the books for order here via this messageboard first... I figure that those that want it most will be the fans most likely to read my messageboads. As soon as they are available I'll make a posting here with a link with an on line check out...

check back in about 30 days for an update!

(oh.. and if you have any other feelings about this upcoming book please let me know via this forum!)

My personal preference would be to opt for the original sketch. Does this mean a different sketch would be drawn on the interior cover or would a free page be packaged in with the book?

I'm all for prints; Lord knows I have enough of 'em, but I do appreciate original sketches (or any original work) a bit more.

Just my 2cents. Oh, and despite my not being around lately, I'm still a huge fan of yours. Talk of you and your work have reached many forums, my friend, including my own. So, with that said... you can count on me purchasing at least one from you. If my site's going, then more. Depends on your release date.

Looking forward to your new sketchbook. I would definitely be interested in a hardcover edition. I like the idea of the original sketch inside.

was one of your options more pages IN COLOR? or was it additional pages that just happen to be in color? I ask because I've seen hardcover editions of art books that have extra pages that aren't in the softcover edition. I absolutely hate that. Instead of making the hardcover special, it cheapens the softcover by implying that it's missing something. It's better to offer the same content but provide a little something extra to those who purchase the hardcover.

The added value and draw of a hardcover is the hard cover itself, and the limited print run is usually a big selling point as well.

I was finally able to talk a bit with the printers.. Sadly I was doing all that I could to figure out a way to make the sketchbook be 11x17 .. but I just can't happen and stay at a reasonable price... I really wanted to offer something unique this time.. so im looking at other options... My goal now is to have the book aviable for wizard Los angeles... at 8.5x11.

I feel the same way about "extra pages"... my goal is to try to keep the price of this book at 20.00 ... with the hard cover in the 50.00 to 60.00 range, with some added bonus to really make up the difference in price...

I'm behind on this project as I really wanted to make the book 11x17.. I know so many people have heard me go on and on about wanting to print BIG!... to make it that size the price would have to be at least 40.00 and even then there wouldn't be much room for alot of color...with no opportunity to make a hard cover.... I'm not going to give up on the idea, but I just can't do it this year.

I can't thank everyone enough for their input on this project.. I'm excited about getting it finished, and it means alot that there are folks out there looking forward to it!

..Now to move forward with the page layouts!
