Mark Evanier (http://www.newsfromme.com/archives/2006_12_21.html#012618) reports the death of Golden Age great Hardin "Jack" Burnley at age 95. Burnley's credits include Superman, Batman, the Justice Society of America and Starman, which he co-created. I'm a huge fan of his compositional sense, his clean lines and his solid draftsmanship. Rest in peace, Jack, and thank you.

Those early Starman stories were strong, strong work.

Sad indeed, following so closely on the passing of Martin Nodell. Those creators, those times were special indeed, as the formative years owning an art form's first ferment of creativity always are. The living links to National's fabled early years are becoming fewer. Such is the golden age.

He was a great artist. His work on the Batman newspaper strip was really good. RIP, Jack.

R.I.P, Mr. Burnley.

I'm most familiar with his covers and his work on the Batman strip. Anyone interested should look for a copy of Alter Ego (vol. 3) # 2, which has a nice long interview with Burnley.

Guys like Nodell and Burnley are the Founding Fathers of comics.

RIP Mr. Burnley

Burnley was responsible for one of the most iconic images of Batman and Robin of all time.

Burnley's work on Starman was some of the cleanest "adventure" art of the era, and his design for the character himself was just great.

A fine artist all around.

RIP.
