What happened to the first penance anyway? Kinda dropped Generation X after Bachalo left.

Well, M being Penance was referenced last month in X-Factor, so it's still in continuity. That means that the original Penance was Monet, who was transformed into a monster by her brother, Emplate, while her twin sisters took her place. Then they swapped places, so the real Monet was Monet again and the fake Monet became Penance. Don't know what happened after that.

I would love the Gen X Penance to be it, but I doubt it will be her. I think Speedball, though I like almost every other option much more

Anyway, I hope they sort out the Penance (Generation X/Loners one) situation well. I'm still hoping she could be her own character: the mute, deaf mutant from Yugoslavia named Yvette. IIRC, I think the explanation in her OHOTMU profile was nice.

About half way through you made my head hurt. Glad I never read that series. That is one of the dumbest things I've heard.
It didn't start turning into a trainwreck until Hama took over, and later writers tried 'fixing' it.

Penance (gen x) was one of my favorites, mysterious, lethal, razor skin. Too bad the character was messed up so badly, she had potential.

It didn't start turning into a trainwreck until Hama took over, and later writers tried 'fixing' it.

That'd be my take on it, too. The first two years or so of that book (under Lobdell and Robinson) were pretty good. Very readable.

It got crazily f'd up after that, though.

War Machine - War Machine is going to be a cast member in Dan Slott's Avengers: The Initiative.

Penance I - She's going to be a cast member of Loners. So that's out.

Nico of Runaways - Don't see how she could be Penance in this series.

That leaves us Speedball. Quesada has said that big things were coming for him. And since Speedball can't be a public hero right now, he can be working on the inside and keeping tabs on the Thunderbolts for SHIELD. After all, we saw he was willing to sign-up finally in the latest issue of Front Line.

Its speedball. I said it months ago. Marvel let slip in a wizard that Penance was someone who was at the stamford incident (only Nitro and Speedball survived it) and that he had a lot to atone for. They gave out way too much information to keep it a secret.

Speedballs powers have evolved so that they are pain induced. (Frontline 7-9). Nitro's arm was cut off at the elbow by wolverine (Penance has all his arms, as does speed ball.). Speedball denied being guilty for the stamford incident until he went through the 7 step program which includes Denial, acceptance and resolving the problem. He signs up with the registration act and that puts him in a position to be a thunderbolt.

Frankly as a fan of Thunderbolts since issue #1 I will more than welcome Speedball to the line up and hopefully he will become a permanant member (Though I do hope he returns to his bouncy power roots eventually.)
