Weak in every aspect. Stay away. Save your money and just glance at the shop.
Just a very plodding story in the first half; we're now introduced to a Japanese businessman who attended UCLA and has a nice Pidgin accent, trying to acquire the I-Gore the black dude made. The second half, if it can justifiably be split up into two parts, becomes convoluted in a messy way, with a whimpered TBC.
The next issue, 661, will mix the Russians and the Yakuza with the second-hand semi serial-killer/vigilante Grotesk, which will not save this arc. I'm going to skip the next two issues, already bitter at the six bucks spent for the first two issues of this arc. Batman is facing dark times...

Have you seen an advance/preview copy already, or can you see the future? :)

Yes...and no.
Unfortunately, I'm not psychic.

Ok, I am not enjoying this anymore. Morrison, no more breaks for you.

I don't get what happened to Batman. I could've sworn that at the end of Morrison's first arc, on the last page, it said the Joker was up next. Now a new creative team and no Joker. I didn't bother with this issue, given how blah last months was.

Is this the "Grotesk" story? Yeah, the panels looked bleh enough without having to read it.

I get the occasional 1 or 2 book breaks, but a 4 issue arc? Right after Morrison started? Sometimes I think DC doesn't want people to keep reading their books. I'll admit, I've read way worse stories than this, but to stick it right after a pretty good (if a bit odd) arc is bizarre.
Do the DC editors even read the stuff they put out any more? For that matter, does DC even have editors anymore?
I'd probably be much less harsh on it if I didn't feel DC was doing this to their entire catalog.
*sigh*
I agree with you IG. I've been seriously considering dropping a lot of books. But so much stuff is just so insulting to ones intelligence it's not even funny.

Thanks Mia, I am glad it's not just me.
I've always been a DC fan, and had very little if nothing to do with Marvel, but there is some quality stuff coming from them, and I am starting to feel the pull in that direction. I'll never give up my Batman books - I've got way to much money invested in my collection to stop now, but that's about all I'll be getting from DC right now. I am getting JLA also, but I am still not sure how I feel about it. It's got Bats in it, so it's probably safe. For now.

Well, I liked it. I understand people's complaints about DC's scheduling for this arc - and really, this is more a LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT story than a BATMAN one - but taken on its own merits, it's not a bad story. I didn't find the plot all that convoluted myself, and I thought that last line was pretty badass. And Johnny Karaoke's a hoot! Mandrake's art is looking better than ever, too.

I wasn't just talking about DC books. I meant comics in general. I've been very disapointed with Marvel as well. The whole Civil War thing has been a serious slap in the face.
But I'm with you on Batman though, I love the character very much. But I don't really feel the same about any other character. I'm just tired of reading the same contrived and 'dialed' in stories over and over again.

I've rather enjoyed the issiues so far and would actually prefer these guys to Morrison and Kubert.

Same here. I am throughly enjoying this story. No need for continuity between this and Morrison's arcs. I'm all for LotDK style stories.
