The I Hate Justin Timberlake thread got me thinking about this subject......

I kind of dig FutureSex/Lovesounds, not so much for the Justin Timberlake, or even Timberland's beats, but for the synergy of the two.....and I dig that timberland did the lion share of the album (ditto for Nelly Furtado)....

It's like that with classic Janet Jackson/Jimmy Jam and Terry lewis combos (It's kind of funny that she puts out a disc called 20 years old, when her first album came out in 81 or '82), as well as Kelis and the Neptunes (As much as I like "kelis was here", it has nothing on Kaleidoscope, Wanderland or Tasty)...

I was listening to "Kingdom Come" by Jay Z, and I thought of how much better this album would have been had Dr. Dre or the Neptunes produced the entire disc, ala Timberland and timberlake with "futuresex/lovesounds.....

which lead me to think of other coloborations I'd like to see:

Dr. Dre and Ice Cube: Helter Skelter was to be done years ago, but cot dammit, I still want it.......

Dr. Dre and Biggie Smalls: I believe that had he lived, this would have happened, and would more than likely be the best selling rap album ever, unless.....

Biggie Smalls and the Neptunes: Biggie flowing over Clipse beats? Oh. My. God.

Classic Bomb squad and classic KRS One. Save for "Love's Gonna Get You", I liked PE's beats more than BDP's, however, I liked Kris's flow vs Chuck D.....

Classic Bomb Squad and Classic Ice Cube: AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted Part II

Kelis and The Neptunes: Don't know what's up with Nas and Pharrell, but they need to squash it. Wanderland is one of the best albums to never be released in america, and it deserves a sequal.....

Janet and the Neptunes: Kelis and the Neptunes' early work was and homage to janet, jam and lewis.....it only makes sense that thwy work with the original.....

Timberland and Aaliyah: I think that they were on the brink of something big before her death....

Timberland and ciara: She dance's like her, sings like her, video's look like hers, might as well use her producer.....

Mariah and JD: JD worked his magick on Mariah in a big way. I don't realy care for her, but I could listen to an album with these two.....

Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal: Forget the Hollerback girls and Wind it ups, Gwen's Best work is with her band mate, hell, he even got Slim Thugg on a remix fo her....that's range.....

Nas and Premire: If Aguilera can get him, you certainly can.....

D'angelo and Raphael Saddiq: Wow.

Joi and Dallas Austin: Memories, The Sunshine and the Rain, If We Weren't Who We Were are some of the best songs you've never heard....

Monica and Dallas Austin: Monica has an amazing voice that really shines, when she isn't trying to be a hood rat......too bad dallas is the only one who seems to understand this....

E-40 and Lil John: Lil john is the only producer outside of the Bay Area that gets E 40.....

Rakim and Dr. Dre: I hate that this never happened

Chaka Khan and Arif Mardin: Baby Making Music.....

Do you have any would like to share?

For one thing, I really don't get all the Neptunes love. Most of the beats on the new Clipse do nothing for me. "Trill" is great, but the rest are so...I don't know, there's just something about them that leave me cold. Also, whenever Skateboard P makes an appearance vocally, I cringe and want to skip the song. That has nothing to do with production, but still.

Didn't Lil Jon do half of E-40's last album?

My two favourite producers right now are Timbaland and Just Blaze, so I'd love for them to work with every rapper I like, haha. The new Game album needed more from both, as their songs on The Documentary were my favourite on the disc.

you'll either love or hate the neptunes.....for me, there's always something to zone out to in their music....the steel drums in Wamp Wamp, the intro and exit in Like I love you, the video game feel of Caught Out There...and some of his arrangements are excellent, the way he did Tammy Lucas' backgrounds in Baby Doll is crazy.....

Yes, now I'd like him to do the other half......

I've always loved Timbo.....Just blaze has suffered in Kanye's shadow, but shares kanyes problem, they both tend to rely on samples....

The Game suffers with out Dre.....

The only song I've heard off it was "Tell Me When To Go," which is probably my favourite song of the year.

I much prefer Just Blaze to Kanye, but that may be because Just seems like a fun guy, while Kanye is a dick, and I probably let that colour my appreciation of their work.

Premiere has done beats for Nas since his first album.

Some of their recent stuff has been hitand miss with me, but some of it is still very impressive. Very few producers, in hip-hip anyway, are as versatile as The Neptunes.

Nas and The RZA- Nas needs to stop trying to court the mainstream and just accept the fact that he's a weird dude and he should be making weird music.

he has never produced an entire album of Nas tracks......

I don't know that I would limit them to "hip hop" producers.....especially chad's side projects.....

That's true. Chad's work on Kenna's album was hot!

I used to like Just more than Kanye, but that has reversed. Kanye has been killing on his albums and the albums he produces for. His beats on Nas', Game's and Jay's were all among the high points of otherwise mediocre albums. I don't mind his attitude because he seems sincere, and he can back it up.

Just been too predictable lately. He seems to be falling in the same rut that the RZA found himself in. Especially on The Game joint, he straight jacked that PE song. On the other hand, his original beat to Ghost's The Champ was great, and his Kingdom Come title track blew the rest of the album
away.

Led Zeppelin producing Deep Purple's (Mk II) studio albums. If that were to happen, I'm pretty sure it would show that Purple are every bit as good as Zeppelin. DP were always let down by below-par production on their albums while Zeppelin's stuff often seemed better than it was based on how it sounded.

They don't do anything for me either, but the Neptunes are still great. They obviously weren't going for the style that I consider their best so judging their whole work on that wouldn't be proper

If Wayne signed with the Diplomats, that would make my day. Wayne plus Tim would be great too.

Just in general, I'd like to see more hip-hop producers working with a wider range of artists. Pop stars like Cristina Aguilera, Nelly Furtado and Gwen Stefani are willing to try offbeat production; more should follow their lead. Like (off the top of my head) Dr. Dre producing U2, Danger Mouse producing Will Oldham, DJ Premier producing Belle & Sebastian, or Timbaland producing Alison Krauss.

Sure, any of those could be an unlistenable mess, but they could also be really, really cool. As hip-hop becomes more and more the default music of American culture, these kind of things will be happening anyway; I can't wait to see the next few steps.

You're right, I shouldn't judge based just on the Clipse. There are a few Neptunes tracks I like, most of what they gave Slim Thug were pretty good, but overall the Neptunes to me are just...meh.

I agree. Supposedly The Rza has done tracks for Pink, Dido and Bono, I'd love to hear them.
