Hello, everyone my name is Paki and i just wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to everyone.

Im a Marvel fan but ive grown tied of all this crap BM Bendis has been putting out recently like House of M, New Avengers, Civil War and Ultimate Marvel comics. These comics are a total waste of time and money!

My favourite Marvel characters are Dr Strange and Sub-Mariner and their are the only reason why im still reading Marvel.(even though they dont have their own titles!)

Now that im fed up with Marvel, i want to read some good DC graphic novels
so im going to name some DC titles that i saw in Forbidden Planet and the reason is cause of the awesome artwork but i dont know if they are worth getting or not so i want you people to tell me if they are good or crap

These are The DC Titles i saw:

Superman - For Tomorrow
Batman - Hush
Superman/Batman - Supergirl
Superman/Batman - Public Enemies
Flash - Blitz/Rogues/Crossover
Green Lantern - Rebirth
Infinite Crisis
JLA/JSA
JLA - Rules of Engagement
JLA - Trials By Fire
JLA - Syndicate Rules

and the rest you good folks can come up with!

BTW- my favourite DC character is Flash but i dont know that much about him, i mean didnt DC get rid of Wally West and give the role to someone else?
Ive always like DC characters but i never understood the DC universe itself, i mean whenever i pick a DC comic i keep getting confused with the story/timeline etc.

So please help me

Thanks!

there's people round here who'll point you much more expertly than i can, but i will just note that of the ones you mention, (bearing in mind i haven't read Superman: For Tomorrow or Green Lantern: Rebirth) the only titles on that list i'd consider must-reads are the Flash Trades.

They were great.

Green Lantern: Rebirth is a great tpb. Also if you can find Identity Crisis go for that. Excellent story. It also sets up event for the next couple of years. Some great DCU books are

Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Dark Victory
New Frontier (Now a stunning absolute edition)

IMO you're doing yourself a major disservice if you don't read JSA: Black Reign (or any of the other JSA trades). That's consistently the best book DC publishes, which is something that can't be said about most of the others...

JSA: Black Vengeance

It really got me into DC (along with Identity Crisis)

I picked up Flash Rouges on an impulse buy and regretted it. Part of it might be that I've never read any flash comics before so my knowledge of the character and his villains is minimal. It’s broken into four stories. The first is about some character that gets shot which makes a vortex that starts to suck everything inside of him. Fairly done to death style of story that I found very boring. The second was about Grodd escaping a prison transport and getting caught again. I know some people like the character but I’ve always despised the concept of intelligent animal characters. Yes, I know human beings are an animal and you know what I meant. The third was the worst of the worst. It was a mess of a story that I don’t even want to attempt to explain. The fourth story was the only reason to consider buying the TPB and even it is not enough. It was about Captain Cold seeking vengeance. By far the best story in the TPB but it’s just not worth the price of buying a TPB for it. You’d probably be better off just hunting down that issue.

I haven’t read Infinite Crisis but I’m giving you the same warning that I’ve gotten. Unless you are very familiar with the pre Crisis DC universe you should avoid that story. A lot of characters will be different than you recognize them and the story will be extremely hard to follow.

Green Lantern Rebirth was good until they explained why Hal went crazy. After that weak explanation my interest in it faltered. Worth picking up if you’re a Hal fanboy or like Green Lantern in general. Since it is his return to a hero story he does get a lot of favoritism, but that is to be expected.

It seems there is always two TPBs that seem to get recommended the most when anyone thinks about getting into DC comics; Watchmen and Kingdom Come. Although both of these stories do not take place in mainstream DC.

Infinite Crisis is a good read as long as you have read Crisis on Infainite Earths. Also its older but if you haven't read Batman Knightfall-Kinghts end I recomend picking it up. I just reread the novel, its amazing. Any of Morrison's JLA run I recommend.

I recommend Batman Hush Vol 1&2, especially if you're a newcomer to Batman.

Also, I'm currently rereading Knightfall-Knightsend and it's actually just as good as it was when I was 12.

There's also the "essential" Batman books, Dark Knight Returns and Year One, as well as the amazing Loeb/Sale works Long Halloween, Dark Victory, Haunted Knight, and Catwoman:When In Rome.

As for non-Bat stuff I recommend JLA Year One, and DC Universe: The Stories Of Alan Moore.

The Flash graphic novel that i want to get is the one where he fighting a evil yellow version of himself and the artwork was simply amazing i think it was drawn by the same guy who drew Avengers-EMH but i dont know whats his name. Should i get this graphic novel?

Does Infinity Crisis pick up where Crisis On Infinite Earths left off 20 years ago? Is it basically a 'Modern Day' Crisis On Infinite Earths to clear up DC continuity?
Or should i get DC books that where set after Infinity Crisis cause i heard there is something called 'New Earth' where current DC stories take place?

As for Green Lantern - Rebirth, i think Hal Jordan comes back as GL after leaving the Spectre, i think Kyle becomes Ion and the GLC defeat Parallax?

I recommend Batman Hush Vol 1&2, especially if you're a newcomer to Batman.

I am definitly gonna get Hush cause all of his best rouges are featured in it!
Joker, Penguin, Two Face, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, Mad Hatter and i think even Superman is in it!
The artwork from Jim Lee rocks!

He's the new Professor Zoom (i think he just goes by Zoom now). I loved it. Great title, but as with everything it's a matter of taste. I liked Johns and Kollins' run on The Flash because it had a great "silver-agey" feel without seeming like a self-conscious homage (the kind Alan Moore does by times). It was all taken very seriously, and it's very continuity heavy, as someone mentioned; it would probably help if you knew a little about Flash's rogues gallery and supporting cast going in.

That said, i didn't, and i followed it just fine. If you're willing to approach it in a spirit of openness and prepared to learn the names and characters as you go, it's a very rich comics reading experience. Blitz isn't the first book in that particular cycle, but i didn't read them in order either. They were great, though. The one with the Rogues teaming up is phenomonal too.

Any Justice League book written by Grant Morrison is worth picking up (that includes JLA:New World Order, JLA:American Dreams, JLA:Rock Of Ages, JLA:Strength In Numbers, JLA:Justice For All, JLA:World War Three in that order with JLA: Earth Two as a kind of an aside special story that doesn't really impact on the main thrust of the story told in the other trades). They're quite different to The Flash, though. Morrison's JLA only fought the grandest threats; it's superhero action on the largest possible scale, all time travel, alternate universes, invading alien suns, invasions by super-genies from the fifth dimension, that kind of stuff. It'll leave you breathless, its incredible. One of my favourite runs of any comic ever.

Also, there'd be a long list of Batman stories i'd pick up before i parted with any money for Hush. Year One, The Dark Knight Returns, Arkham Asylum, The Last Arkham or The Long Halloween are much better. So are most of the No Man's Land books.

Do any JSA trade. Start at the beginning and work forward.

As a companion to that, do James Robinson's Starman.

I don't love the list you've put forward. No offense, but you're new to DC so I'm just trying my best to point you in the right direction. Yes, most of the stories on your list have incredible art, but few have great plots or characterizations.

It's hard to go wrong with Geoff Johns, so I'd say off of your list I'd go with The Flash trades. Can't really go wrong there.

If you're doing JLA, do Morrison.

i dont want to get any JSA books cause i dont know the characters/stories/villians so im not going to buy any of them to start off with althougth im intrested in the JLA/JSA crossover written by David S Goyer and drawn by Calos Pacheo.
Should i get that crossover?

I went to the graphic novel section at Waterstones today and was flicking through these titles which came at these prices:

Superman:For Tommorrow - £6.99

This book is EXACTLY what im lookin for! The story is quite simple and easy to follow plus the artwork from Jim Lee is fantastic!
Buying this no doubt!

Batman: Hush Vol 2 - £6.99

i couldn't find the first volume but i saw the second one and as with Superman:For Tommorrow it is eay to follow and understand plus it showcases some of Jim Lee's best art since 90's XMen!
Buying this no doubt!

Superman/Batman: Supergirl - £8.99

Again another great easy to follow story with great art from the best artist of the moment alongside Scott Kollins - Micheal Turner!
I like the way Leob writes the story from both Bats and Supes perspectives and it shows some great action!
Buying this no doubt!

Superman/Batman: Public Enemies -£8.99

This one has really bad artwork but the story with Bats/Supes on the run sounds intresting! CM Shazam appears in this one and looks even chessier with the bad artwork!
Still buying it!

Superman/Batman: ??? - £8.99 (Calos Pacheo Artwork)

I never flicked through this book but is it any good?
Let me know

Infinte Crisis - Superman - £6.99

Should i get this one?
let me know?

Days of Vengenace - £8.99

this one shows on the cover CM Shazam vs Spectre and has something to do with Infinite Crisis.

I would highly recommend the first 3 Superman/Batman trades starting with Public Enemies and ending with Absolute Power.

You're better off getting Long Halloween and Dark Victory rather than hush.

The JLA stuff that one guy posted it one whole run.To be honest,JLA Year One by Mark Waid is a far better story than any of those.I highly suggest you hunt down the JLA Year One trade, one of the best JLA stories of all time, trumps anything Morrison did.The New Frontier is another take on the origins of the JLA by Darwyn Cooke. This is split up into 2 trades and is just a great story all around.

For more insightful storylines,I would go with Superman For All Seasons,Superman Secret Identity, and Green Arrow Archer's Quest.

Other trades fully worth your hard earned buck:

Green Arrow Quiver
Superman Birthright
Superman Red Son
Kingdom Come
The Golden Age
JSA Liberty Files

Try to make it out to a local comic shop and pick up the current Justice series. It's shaping up to be a classic JLA story.

Not a big JSA fan, but Robinson's Starman is superb. Love it.
