Warner Bros. should make a new Superman cartoon but this time they should make Superman stronger & use some villains that weren't used in the other Superman cartoon like Preus, Doomsday, General Zod, Non, etc. They could also use a few Phantom Zone villains from Smallville like Aldar & Baern. I'd also love to see them use a new costume or the costume from Superman Returns would suffice. Getting Tim Daly to return would also be nice, I think that he did an excellent job on Clark & Superman.

Have you been watching the Legion of Superheroes cartoon? I know it's not exactly what you're after, but from what I've seen, it is a pretty sweet Superman cartoon. There was even a Doomsday cameo in one episode, and in that same episode, the Phantom Zone featured heavily. Check it out if you get the chance.

Actually, I watched it for the first time this past Saturday & I thought it was cool. I still think that they should make a totally new animated Superman series that is only about Superman but should frequently feature other superheroes. However, I did hear a rumor that a new Superman series was supposed to be coming out next year & was going to be made by the same people who are currently working on 'The Batman' animated series.

The last superman animated series lasted about 4 seasons (?) which was a pretty good run.
It was a very good transition from Batman animated to superman animated to justice league to justice league unlimited and then there's static shock and batman beyond which are all in the same continuity which i thought was pretty cool. (although if we follow the same continuity , we know that sometime in the future after JLU , superman is going to be taken over by Starro and controlled by him for a few years).
Personally , I would rather they continue with JLU cartoon. It's always cool to have the world's greatest heroes all together.

If they make a new Superman cartoon, it should start all over from the beginning. As for the JLU cartoon, it should continue but I doubt it will.

Really? This is the first I've heard of it. Pretty awesome idea, even if I've been less than thrilled with most of the DCAU DTVs.

The Timmverse was great, but I think it can be very easy to fall into a "the Timmverse was perfect and all the other cartoons suck!" mentality. I mean, I love Timm's DCAU as much as anybody, but they're not without the flaws and overly 'kiddie' moments that people are down on 'Legion' for.
I'm not talking about you specifically, Agentum, because it sounds like you've given Legion a chance, but more about the fans who bashed it before it even aired.
Honestly, when it comes to things like motion and action sequences, I feel the team behind 'Legion of Superheroes' (and 'The Batman', for that matter- is it the same animation studio, or not?) are doing a better job than the team behind most of the Timmverse shows.

The Batman is one of the most horrible animated superheroshows i have seen.
It's standard actionhero with Batman based characters.
The designs is awful, it's so bad that it pains me to see it.
I don't think it's the kiddie things that is the big problem for me, it's the bad storytelling and kewl stuff that annoys me with The Batman.
I think people that don't read the comics will get more out of these shows.
I don't get it, how hard can it be to borrow stuf from the comics and do a show worth the name instead of cheap and fast standard action hero stuff?
It often seems like the networks that buy this stuff doesn't know or understand what is good or not, they just want to have one type of show and thats it.
Teen Titans sucked badly too i think, and i think it was mostly the designs that people disliked about it.
Legion is better than The Batman, but i'm disapointed in both of them, maybe the golden age of superhero shows has ended:-D
But still i can watch Legion and only whine now and then about it but i get angry when i see The Batman :)
I'm not much for Fantastic Four either, but Marvel has never had a animated show that has been very good so it doesn't bother me as much, time for Timm to do something with Marvel.
I think it's still possible to do better shows, but they have to use people that understands superheros, it's not Transformers or He-man.
And i get it that those shows is not made for me, but still when i hear from other people that is not so very intrested in superherocomics they too think that shows like Batman TAS is way better than the current one, maybe not small kids care about it but anyway.

Actually, one of the things I like about the Legion cartoon is that there are some cool nods to the comics- so far we've had cameos from Booster Gold, Doomsday and (a descendant of?) Lobo- even as the show puts its own slant on things. I dunno, I just like that show a lot more than I expected to, each to their own.
I agree that it would be good to see Timm have a crack at a Marvel animated series, given his Kirby influence. I prefer the DCU personally, but it would still be very cool.

And i think Justice League is a lot more intresting thing to base a show on than Legion of Super-heroes, but then again it would not have been possible to sell a new JL show right after the last one.
JL/U had a lot of years on the air after all, i miss it even if it wasn't perfect.

For villains in a new Superman animated series, for the most part I'd want to see:
General Zod & Non (no Ursa unless Chris Kent will be involved in the story as well)
Preus (just learned about him, he's kind of cool)
Metallo
Mongul
Darkseid (but he shouldn't appear as much as he did in Superman: TAS)
Aldar (it'd be nice to see them use a Phantom Zone villain from Smallville)
That's just about every villain I'd want to play a big part in the next animated Superman series.

I'd certainly like to see a new animated Superman....perhaps it should start off with an animated re-telling of "Birthright", or perhaps a combinations of the "Man of Steel" and "Birthright" origins.
It would certainly be interesting to see which villains they would use for a new show, and also which Lex Luthor they'd use.
Preus
12-19-2006, 09:46 PM
I'd like them to make Lex Luthor similar to how he was in Superman: TAS & they should try to get Clancy Brown to lend his vocals once again. But, I wouldn't want too many episodes to focus on Lex Luthor & Superman doing battle since Lex Luthor is used in EVERYTHING Superman related. I'd like General Zod to play a big part in an animated Superman series & it wouldn't be too bad if Mongul got a few episodes in which he fights Superman. Also, if a new animated Superman series is made, this time around they need to actually give episodes about the origins of the villains. Superman: TAS & Justice League had great episodes but sometimes they didn't show the villains origin story.

I'm not too fond of The Batman. It's even more cartoony than the 90's series that I liked.
As for The Legion, haven't watched any ep yet (cuz it isn't being aired yet around here).
For a new Superman series, I'd go with a realistic art style, a la FOX's X-Men. I'd make it as close to the comic book as possible, but throwing new ideas.

I don't know. For starters, I like the god-like Superman. He's a freakin' god, dammit. And this is one of the reasons I liked Superman Returns so much. Superman is about majesty, power, compassion and hope. However, he's a humble man. Perhaps the most humble man, which might mean a contradiction. And this is where the rest of the world comes into play: how do his wife, friends, relatives and the rest of the world see him.
His origin, I'd like to see an extended version, mixing the Silver Age, the Byne and the Birthright origins. AND I'd add the Brainiac version from S:TAS.
Superman would also be a man who longs for his homeplanet, and cherishes everything his father left him: even Kryptonian traditions.
I have other ideas in mind, but I guess the paragraphs above sum it all up.

I don't know. The Batman has some stinkers, but I think there are some gold shows there too. How about when the Joker became a twisted version of Batman? I thought that was great. Or Dr. Strange's plot with the "zombies"? That was pretty clever too. I also prefer this design of Batman with the smaller ears to Timm's, and most of the fight scenes are a notch above as well. BTAS had a better thematic focus though, no question.
I like The Legion as well. It's nice to see Superman/boys action side so well expressed. I imagine that with time it'll become even better.
If Superman does get a new series, I really really hope that it's major source of inspiration are the books. Certainly not the movies, or not even the Timmverse(as great as it was). I would pray every night that they hire a voice actor who has a powerful voice,as opposed to the passive/borderline diminutive boy scout thing that's been done by Tim Daly and the like. Superman should not sound like a hall monitor. His voice/inflection should inspire confidence, loyalty, all of that good stuff you'd expect from a guy who often leads others into combat. It'd also be cool if they were to ditch the briefs. Like that "Ultimate Superman" that Wizard magazine came up with. I thought that suit was awesome. It was full of strength & nobility.

Agreed. And as much as I love the classic suit, I wouldn't mind to see Big Blue using something different from time to time. And actually, that would be one of my ideas: seeing him using different costumes every now and then.

Why not a show about Kal-L?
Or maybe better yet, a show about the Superman from "Brave New Metropolis" where he explores various alternate universes, trying to make amends for his crimes. That would leave open the option for him to meet Golden Age Superman.

I know it won't happen but maybe they could make it where Jor-El & Lara survive & come to Earth with Kal-El. I think that if that story could be pulled off it'd definitely be gold.
The Batman

I think that there was an Elseworlds Annual, I want to say for Man of Steel, which told a story fairly similar to that. I think it was more than just Jor-El and Lara though, I think all of Krypton came and took over the Earth. If I'm remembering it right, the Kents were sort of like Superman's Nannies or whatever so he still got raised with human values. This was when Krypton was still the cold, sterile Byrne Krypton.
It was a pretty good story I think. Batman was in it and he was like a crazy terrorist or something kept alive by Kryptonian science.

Sounds good but I wouldn't want Jor-El & Lara to take over Earth. They'd all fight crime, at least until Jor-El & Lara die in battle but I'd have that happen after Kal-El has become a grown man. If they could make an animated series or comic book about that story & didn't make it suck, it'd be surefire gold.

Superman: TAS needs a reboot, Bruce Tim & crew should start again from where they left off. I'm sure it'd be as successful as it was last time around.
