Anyone else see this movie? I never read the books (my partner did though), so I wasn't sure what to expect. In general, it was ok.
My bigest gripe: pacing. The pacing of the movie seemed out of place...the beginning was rather slow, and then things moved too fast. Other than Eragon and Sophira, I really didn't get a chance to know or care about the other characters. There are a couple character that seemed like they probably played important roles in the book, but in the movie they had rather diminished roles.
But overall, it was alright. I would have preferred to wait until it comes out on DVD to rent it rather than spend money at the theatre.

I keep hearing it's horrible. I don't know if it's just internet trolls or not, but I like the running joke that it's just bad Star Wars fanfic set in a Lord of the Rings like universe with a dash of Dragonriders of Pern.
I also heard the kid was 15 when he started the book and 19 when he got published. I also heard his parents were in publishing otherwise it would never have gotten made.
Again. Don't know how true any of those are. Though from the basic plot I heard it did sound a lot like Star Wars epIV.
Eh. I'll skip it and wait for a descent Pern movie. Reminds me of when my friend joking about seeing seeing the crap that was Dungeons and Dragons and then walking out wondering when the actual Lord of the Rings movie was going to premeire.
it's not Horrible,
but it *is* boring
Duela is dead on in her assesment. The pacing is absolutely horrid (there is simply no excuse to go from "baby dragon" to "Adult dragon" in one 6 minute sequence (I shit you not). . .nor the "training". . which apparently is much more drawn out than the 2 or so minutes it gets onscreen.
and how about that big battle at the end?
so Eragon defeats the hired bad guy, of the *bigger* bad guy, and everyone else stops fighting?
this kid, who is supposed to "lead the army" (which, according to the film, means just flying overhead and having his dragon spit fire on them), but all he does is kill the Shade-guy (who doesn't seem to be leading the enemy army at all, he just wants to kill Eragon), and suddenly the fighting is over
as someone who has never read the book (s), I was bitterly disappointed.
I have seen almost all of this movie, but done better, as Star Wars (the first film). . .to the point where there are almost exact scenes! lifted right out of Star Wars.
the 11 year old we saw it with liked it. . but for me?. . definately a rental, if at all.
about the same quality you would see for a Sci-Fi original on Saturday Night on the Sci Fi Channel.
1/2 star.

I was sad. I read the books and loved them, but was seriously disappointed with how they did the movie. Likewise, the pacing irritated me something chronic.
They left a lot of very big things out, which actually have a lot to do with the plot. Not little little things no one would notice, but things that paved the way into and coloured quite a few of the events in the second book. Even a few things in the first book.
For example Angela's Werecat never showed up, and he's very much a part of Eldest. The Twins were cut completely, and they were the ones who betrayed the Varden to Durza and the Urgals. Ajihad, the Varden leader, was supposed to die so his daughter could take over and lead them to battle in the second book. Arya. Oh Arya. Leading poor Eragon on even though she pretty much squashes his adorable little crush by the end of the first book.
BAH. Though Sapphira was so DAMN CUTE as a little baby dragon. COME ON.

Haven't seen it. I did have a strange epiphany when I was looking at the poster and realized that "Eragon" is "Dragon" with an E. And I'm amazed Anne McCaffrey hasn't hired a lawyer after hearing the phrase "Dragonrider" in all the previews numerous times.
