I think somebody has been indulging in the eggnog a little early... that has to be the most unfocussed rant I've read in a lonnnnnnnng time!

Someone hasn't been reading my posts on why Creote is a heterosexual sex machine that's having sex with Zinda!

nonono, those are focussed, they're just not very healthily focussed!

Olney's reads like some wild train-of-thought rant derailed at the station, and the only passengers were thoughts of gail, bald eagles and the statue of liberty. None of whom now get on, because gail stepped on their feet and called them all bad names while climbing out of the wreckage!

Damn it I want my credit for having more disorganized rants as evidenced by this.

Um to be honest I’m having a hard time understanding your post. As for Creote turning down Zinda when she wanted to "show him something" well that proves he is a gentleman rather than a cad. In the issue you are referring too there was a party going on and Zinda, true to form, had a little too much to beer drink. In point of fact she was plastered. Creote is many things but not a rapist. Also remember when he was fully nude he invited Zinda to take off her clothes and hop into the shower with him for a “Russian style bath.” ;) Given the fact that quite a period of time took place after the panel who Creote walks into the bath inviting Zinda to join him and the next panel where Zinda is flying talking to Babs one can infer they wild hot tub sex with each other off panel. Now do you see why I think he’s the man.

Dinah asked Creote is Savant knew that he (Creote) was in love with him. Creote being a man of few words said no. I took that to mean that no he did not love Savant. Some of you may be quick to point out that Creote has been known to freak whenever Savant gets knocked out or injured. Well Creote is a former soviet special forces military man and views Savant as his comrade. Now to be honest I have no military experience but according to biographical literature I have read the day in and day out experiences of war forges bonds that are stronger than all others you will forge in your life time. Makes sense as you live, fight, protect, and if need be die for each other. So naturally when Creote comrade gets harmed Creote is bound to go a little nuts.

Anyway Creote isn’t someone I want to be gay simply because he not an icon. When I think of an Icon I think of pre crisis Superman and Wonder Woman. A small girl can look at Wonder Woman and say I want to be just like her when I grow up. Ditto for a small boy with Superman. And when I say just like them I’m not talking about developing superpowers but rather adopting their characteristics as they mature into adulthood. If I had a son that grew up to be like Clark or a daughter that grew up like Diana I could die with a sense of peace because I’ll know that I’ll leave the world a better place. Comics should reflect America more so of course there should be more gays, Latinos, Asians etc, but they need to be iconic figures that are a break from stereotypical molds and will last many decades like Clark and Diana. You know you have good characters when they are very much the same as they were when they were invented. I think it would be great for there to be a gay superhero and I think it’ll be even better if comic fans are open to and embrace such a character.

The mean reason why people think Creote is gay is his unflinching devout loyalty to Savant but in real life such loyalty is rarely sexual in nature and below is a quick list of examples.

1. Everyone has people in their lives that they are so loyal to that they would die for. It could be anyone form your child who you gave birth to the boss that hired and mentored you through out your career. Just because you’d take a bullet for your best friend doesn't mean that you have any inclination to sleep with him.

2. We don’t know how Creote went from being a Russian Special Forces solder to Savant’s follower. The experience that facilitated such a change could have caused a deep bond of undying loyalty all on its own.

3. When Dinah asked if Creote knew that Savant was insane Creote remarked something to the effect that there isn’t a great man that isn’t beholden to it. A great man to me is a person of tremendous purpose and vision who will radically change the world. Such men have followers that worship him and will die for him. Jesus had the apostles, Martin Luther King had his parishioners, Gandhi had his fellow countrymen etc. Just because you have a leader whose vision you are devout too doesn't mean that you feel a sexual affinity to him or her

As for Gail writing Creote as gay there is no example that demonstrates that Creote has a sexual attraction to Savant. He hasn’t hit on him or anything and like the real world you can’t tell someone gay until they tell you. The stereotypes that are portrayed in various avenue of pop culture don’t hold up with the real thing.

And as far as Zinda is concerned the last thing she needs in her life is a man. She needs to work herself out before moving on to any relationship. The other birds have full rich lives but Zinda the exception. Think about it. Dinah has her flower shop, Helena has her vocation as a teacher, and it’s been hinted that Babs runs a technological consulting firm. When Zinda not on a mission I picture her in a dark room somewhere drinking beer after beer to combat the demons that plague her. You could justifiably say her problem is being six decades removed from her time but she was drinking back then too so there something else going on she needs to work out before getting involved with anyone.

Sorry it took me this long to respond to your post. I should've been keeping better tabs on the thread I started. Anyway let’s review one of issues you brought up. First Creote answered the door naked. I’m sure he could’ve put a pair of pants given the fact he had just presumably disrobed and was on the way to the bath. I write presumably because Zinda or Babs must’ve called in advance so he knew she was coming and yet still managed to “accidentally” be caught naked. Second given Zinda’s response to Creote body I’m guessing he was in a state of extreme physical excitement and I hope you’re catching the hidden subtext because I don‘t want to get banned going into further detail. Third he went into a diatribe about how beautiful Russian bodies were and how a wonderful of a time they have bathing in an attempt to let her know what page he was on. Forth he nonchalantly (being the player he is) walked into his bath fully expecting that she would take up his invitation by disrobing and following him into the hot tub. The more I think about it the more clear it is to me that he seduced poor Zinda or maybe was told to by Savant as part of making her a pawn to eventually topple the King which in this case being Oracle. If you’re wondering why Babs is the King well that’s because I see Dinah filling that role.

Rose, can I call you that or do you prefer another nickname as white rose while eloquent is a little unwieldy not that Lester any better but it’s the handle I’ve been stuck with since birth. In the issue you are referencing there was a lot going on at the time Dinah asked that question. You’ve obviously read it so I don’t need to explain to you that endgame was in full force. Creote priorities wasn’t debunking Dinah about his sexuality but rather containing a situation that had descended into total mayhem as his survival and freedom along with Savant had taken center stage in his mind.

Also love can be expressed in so many ways that even if Creote admitted to loving Savant it would be in a sexual manner. He only paused because he was taken aback and offended at the question. You know what Pixies Chick has reinvigorated my fighting sprit and has given me my second wind. Creote straight as an arrow and probably had wild hot tub sex with Zinda.

Rather than clog up the Rick Olney discussion thread, I thought this should have its own shrine to Lester... err, it's own thread. To talk about Lester.

And his mental inadequacies.

or whatever.

This is true, but I have funky moderator tools and a very easy target in Lester to practice on!

And I maintain that my original premise is correct: Lester is EXTREMELY focussed on his Creote/Zinda love. To the point that all other posts gradually drift to this topic instead of whatever it was he was originally concentrating on.

The only exceptions to this rule seem to incorporate Adrian Paul, or ferrets.

Or both.
