Yeah, it's interesting, if you read between the lines, and some modern historians doing research on the time period, to see the interactions between the major occult figures, from Crowley and crew to Gardner, Wagner, and their friends.

I always found it interesting that many of the original ideals for wicca were ritualised eastern thought blended with traditional animism, and coupled with ritualism. I didn't know about the BDSM thing though, but suddenly the binding at an innitiation makes a lot more sense! :eek: Heh.

I never could get into worshipping Gods. Even when I followed Wicca, I found it hard to explain my particular stance towards them.

I’ve been lurking in morbid fascination for over a month now, both here and at Chuck Dixon’s board and am ever more stunned by the gall and stupidity of this “person.” He really does seem to relish the attention, though, and obviously does not grasp or care about the damage to his reputation [EDIT: Thought I should add (though it goes without saying) that he does not care about the damage done to others]. It seems that the only way justice of any kind will be done is in court.

I am a lawyer, and would like to offer the following brief bits of information (some previously set out in a different format at Mr. Dixon’s board) if only to save various people – perhaps only the incredibly generous Mr. Waid – a few dollars and headaches:

1. Don’t sweat the B.S. NDA. There are a multitude of reasons why these spurious NDAs would be completely unenforceable and meaningless. I won’t recite them all, except for the most obvious. The law does indeed follow the sensible conclusion that many people have already reached: failure to pay for previously rendered performance of services is a clear breach of contract, and no NDA can prevent legal action for same. Contract law term is ‘failure of consideration’.

1. Rick comes back, and while actively dodging giving concrete answers, at least is fairly civil.

2. As the night wears on, more and more facts are laid out by his opposition, and he gets more desperate. The legal threats come thicker and faster.

3. Somebody ups the ante by promising physical proof. A scanned letter, or an actual name and contact number, link to a site with either previous contrary Olney claims or with legal info directly refuting him.

4. Rick devolves into sexual innuendo and insults faster than sugar dissolving into water, a favourite when we get to this portion of the evening's entertainment, even if the person to whom he's replying had said nothing personally insulting whatsoever.

5. After more insults and legal threats, Rick vanishes again, after a promise that he's not coming back. Possibly only till the next night or two, when he'll return with a thinly veiled apology (or not), and start again at point 1. Sometimes it'll be for longer. Guaranteed he WILL be back however.

The simple fact is, Rick cannot handle the truth. He comes back to silence it, but we're not intimidated by the threats and won't back off. This infuriates him, because it's worked all these years previously, why not now? Obviously, it's because we've brought everybody together, all those experiences with his business practices, all the facts about his behaviour and threats and lies, and suddenly it's not one or two people unable to make any lonely headway on their own, it's a crowd of people who are an effective support network, able to point out the inconsistencies and lies where any one person might miss them.

He's even been schooled tonight on the tenets of Wicca by priests and priestesses of the religion. But he'll never concede the fact. Especially since we have documented proof of his attempting to use Christianity the same way on other message boards not that long ago. This is going to continue happening, with all of his claims.

We've got stories of Rick Olney threatening people with lawsuits going back almost a decade. I'm not absolutely certain, but I'm pretty sure there's been no confirmation of ANY of these happening. They are empty threats. The one or two who previously were isolated and intimidated by the lies and obfuscation are suddenly a whole host, some of which are lining up to show him what a real lawsuit looks like. The meltdown is on in earnest now.

To Rick: your old standby tactics just will not work anymore Rick. And you're so caught up in this monolithic house of cards, you can't escape it without getting burned.

While I have enjoyed the verbal jousting, much like poking a stick at some small slimy thing under a rock, I take no pleasure in the enormity of the situation. You've hurt too many people, destroyed friendships, and others' dreams of working in the industry. I don't want revenge for them. I don't want you injured. I don't even want you humiliated. But I DO want you STOPPED before you find another victim. I want you left absolutely clear in no uncertain terms that your behaviour and activities are unacceptable and the repercussions to you are real. I want you legally slapped down so hard you'll cringe in terror at the thought of ever creating another NDA, let alone attempt to collect the hard work of struggling artists and writers with no intention of paying them. It's the end of the road.

Thankfully, that process has begun. No doubt you'll blame the bashers for it, but it's your own actions that brought you to this point. Everybody else has finally chosen a re-action that will deal with it once and for all, instead of hiding from it or pretending the money didn't matter or could be written off or whatever.

And to think, you could have stopped all this by simply paying some people.

Had you not done JT the way you did, I probably wouldn't have been able to parlay an alliance with him on another cool project that while probably won't be as big as the manga will be pretty damn neat if it comes together.

I may not have gone to law school like CC, but I come from a family of lawyers, I live in a navy town full of JAG officers, so you do pick up some things here and there.
