Mr. Olney,
To be up front, I am one of the editors working on UNSCREWED. I have no horse in this race other than wanting to give creators who say they were not paid a chance to get thier work out. It has nothing to do with you, as a person, and despite what you may believe is not a "Come, let us mock Rick Olney" deal.
It is about raising money for those awaiting payment. If those people were paid, UNSCREWED would, I suspect, go away tomorrow.
I hope you understand that.

Again, you've made some very bold and untrue claims. The lines of opinion were crossed here long ago. So, as the various actions on my side of this move forward and one by one the 'fruits' drop off the lie and smear tree here ... we'll indeed see who was truthful and factual versus shooting their mouth off.
Yeah, I'm slummin' ... figured I drop in and read a little. Heh. What losers you all are to allow yourselves to fall to heor worship and be sucked into legal problems by the "professionals" in this message thread and locked in with the UNSCREWED project.
Hard lesson coming for a bunch of you, folks...

You of all people should know better! ;)
I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand that.
"I of all people?"
My sole interaction with you had been in this thread, trying to get answers to questions. I believe that I have been nothing but fair and respectful, despite claims made by people I consider personal friends.
If you could please explain what you are implying by that, it would be appreciated.

I'm so proud
I'm not going to respond to him, of course, but it's once again clear that he's talking without benefit of a lawyer.
It's not libel to express one's opinion, direct readers to a website where they can get details of a situation, and to caution readers against doing business with someone. All constitutionally-protected speech.
And, as I've said elsewhere and maybe even here, I hereby grant permission for anyone to repost my warning in the venues available to them.
I'm continuing to get grateful e-mails from folks who had not been priviously aware of Olney, so there remains a need to spread the word.
Tony
Tony,
Your opinion of me is your own and your right. But when coupled with online mob mentality and interlaced with ethic as to your cause for concern when this side of the matter doesn't concern or involve you ... far as I know ... then the ethic you're employing has been changed. Don't believe me? Ask your lawyer. Explain to him exactly what you've said and done and allow him to ask you real questions.

My jaw just dropped. I honestly was not expecting a return.
He's running more scared than usual. He thought he could continue to solicit people for his various enterprises. But, once he went public again - on Super Hero News - the only moral choice I could make was to respond in that venue and to further spread the word about him.
And it is spreading.
And it will continue to spread.
I've been threatened by much much scarier people than him.
And, yet, somehow, I'm still around.
Realistically, it is questionable whether Olney has the funds to pay his debts or that his activities, heinous as we might consider them, will land him in the hoosegow. But, for a guy of no ability or means to be cut off from deluding himself and others that he has or had any meaningful role in comics might be the worst punishment of all.
His capacity for self-delusion seems high and maybe there's always another sucker around the corner. But...
Every person we direct to the Unscrewed website, every person who reads my warning about him, is one less person he can fool.

Mr. Olney, surely you see why people find statments like this amusing? Ms. Simone was just a guest at one of the most high-profile conventions in the US. She participated in numerous panels and events. There was a line to see her when she was signing. Fellow creators seemed to be enjoying her company quite a bit.
Her career at DC does not seem to be in any danger. Indeed, judging by the amound of titles she currently has on the shelves, it appears to be doing quite well. Her sales are brisk and her popularity continues.
As someone who does not enjoy when others make what you feel to be baseless statements about you, why would you engage in the same?

Maybe if you weren't so gutless and could answer actual questions instead of being such a coward, people would actuall be scared of you as you delude yourself into thinking we are, Rick.
1) Did you, as you swore here twice, pay a dime to my husband's airfare? Did you even reimburse me fully for my own?
2) Have you paid even a DIME owed to Chuck Dixon, Val Staples, and the many, many others here that you have cheated and lied to?
Simple questions, Rick. Are you man enough to answer them without your usual cowardly evasion?
That's why no one's scared. Because you're a coward.
No amount of thread deleting and running will change what you've said and emailed people, Rick. Everyone's seen it, and you made yourself a laughingstock. Your name is now synonymous with "deadbeat," and in the many weeks since you were exposed, you've gotten no closer to dealing with the people you've cheated fairly and honestly.
Can you answer those two simple questions without your usual gutless word-mincing?
Don't worry, we all know you won't. It's just fun to watch a cowardly liar squirm.

Mr. Olney, you confuse me greatly.
I've been on the endge of the comic book industry for roughly a decade now. In that time I have been a writer, talent agent, editor and publisher. I have never had an interaction quite like the ones with you.
I am trying to be polite. You are being evasive. Your "you of all people" claims some sort of knowledge of me. What knowledge of me can you possibly have?
Also, just to correct your english, I assume you mean to say "I'm not here to help you feel appreciated".
Which leads to the question... why are you here? It does not seem to be to defend yourself against these allegations. if so, you would address them. Instead you make veiled threats.
Why are you here?

What losers you all are to allow yourselves to fall to heor worship and be sucked into legal problems by the "professionals" in this message thread and locked in with the UNSCREWED project.Well, gee, Rick, you've got a years-overdue comic book, you've publicly admitted that people are due money that you have not paid, you've posted "iKill", you've desperately tried to delete your words, you've made visible promises that you've visibly reneged on or failed to live up to... and you're concerned about someone else being a "loser"?
How about you pay people what they're owed? Not awaiting them to jump through more hoops for you, not waiting until your mind is unoccupied with other matters. Just make good on your debts. Because you have enough visible history of failing to follow through on your threats, plans, and promises that it's hard to take new ones seriously.

Her popularity is not as 'solid' as you (and she) might believe. But I'm not at liberty to say anything else. I just hope she's had advice of legal counsel regarding her personal attacks towards me directly that, again, go outside the rights and legal definition of personal opinion.
Anyway, on the Benny G. Leal subject -- Benny joined the ORComx APA a number of years ago after joining ORCA to interact with other comic book readers. Remarks attempting to connect me to his other personal interests have been noted and again, fall outside legally acceptable standards of behavior. My side of this will also be making his legal representation aware of what's been stated here and by whom. Mr. Leal's personal life choices are his own. And, unlike the bunch of you... I don't judge outside of proper context. Likewise with the harrassment emails sent to members of my family and the online hack attempts. There is no rush here to get it right the first and last time. Clarity and truth is coming.

There will come a point, when he tries to sue EVERYONE IN THE WORLD, that he'll get to know the term "frivolous lawsuits" and won't be allowed to file them. When the judges have become familiar with all he has done, and all the evidence against him, he will most certainally be laughed out of court. Slander isn't slander if it's true. "didn't you just try to sue XXXXX for this same thing?" "Uh, yes judge, I tried to tell you they are ALL out to get me" - "Well, have you paid anyone yet?" - "Uh, no judge, I was told I have to settle all my court cases before I can." - "So, you're suing this person for saying you haven't paid anyone, and can't pay anyone until everyone stops saying you haven't paid anyone" - "That's right sir" - "Well...I suggest you go pay someone"

Because I use a pen name, and Rick, who knows nothing about publishing, comics, or the English language, wants to make that seem deceptive, even though it's been an open secret in the industry for years. Lots of writers use them, but Rick's too addled to know that, apparently.

But, for a guy of no ability or means to be cut off from deluding himself and others that he has or had any meaningful role in comics might be the worst punishment of all.

Just a thing. I have to admit I really think that "your time is fleeting" malarky is just low-class. EVERYONE'S TIME IS FLEETING. Do you think you come in and stay on top forever? No, you come in, you work, eventually someone else gets the spotlight, you keep plugging away, and maintaining quality work and it comes back round to you.
It's the thing about freelancing, it's feast or famine EVERY DAY UNTIL YOU DIE. I can name at least 10 people off the top of my head that were HUGE 10 years ago, that have moved onto other oppertunities once things started drying up in comics.
I would hope EVERYONE savors the good times while they have it, not just people that are threatened, because it makes those times when things suck, all the better. Looking back on things you actually accomplished with pride, and striving to accomplish more.

The lie upon lie in this thread ... coupled with all the name calling and guilt by association is mounting. 'Course, I really don't expect you to be smarter. I've had several lawyers crawing this topic and I'm assured that once the linking documentation is completed ... things will begin to happen.
This isn't even about TOTS or the first tier 'talents' owed by TightLip Entertainment either. It is about a bunch of struggling 'talents' feeling and trying to feel good about themselves. It is about one industry "pro" wiping the arse of another industry "pro" ... in this case, initially to distract from the original facts of another writer screwing himself by taking his NDA as nonsense.
There ARE actual facets of my personal life here that some people will be called to answer on how they came up with their assumptions. Lie after lie after lie isn't FACT. It is nothing. Again, I hope those of you taking the lead of people like "Gail Simone" and Matt "Doc" Martin are happy with how you may have compromised your lives.
Hardly a blight on my life, fella. So far all the stuff I've been reading on various websites puts you firmly in the wrong. And a whole mess of it is from people I respect in the industry who haven't steered me wrong in the past.
Ya haven't paid people mate. They tend to get a little upset when that sort of thing happens.

Mr. Olney, speaking as a man with dyslexia, I advise that you type your posts in Word with the grammarcheck and spellcheck on. It won't catch everything, but it may make it easier for people to comprehend exactly what it is you are trying to say.
All I'm getting is "I am mad. I will sue. Eventually. Because my feelings are hurt. I failed English 101."
Is that anywhere near accurate? I just want to be clear.
Quoted because it made me smile.

Actually, you may want to check into how Tony actual gained a fan following. He did it by producing material that people like, and by having it published.
It's a technique that works a lot better than non-production of material. Really.
Nat,
I don't doubt that. But the mean spirited social agenda isn't going to gain him any new 'fans' ... no more than it will give his life what he seems to show is lacking. "Fandom" has changed greatly since Tony got his recognition.
Personally, I know Tony and I don't like each other. But I doidn't bring his name up in my discussions and conversations until he thought by talking about me ... it would make him a bigger person.
I've got pics of him and his son back in 2003 attending the MMC. We were happy to have them here that day. I can and will be able to disprove any negative comment about that 2003 event with fact. Pictures also say a thousand words. So Tony is free to run his mouth for as long as he's foolish enough.
Now, as to addressing TLE's production efforts -- We're still in business and still planning on having a representation set for June. I never approached this publishing endeavor as wanting to be a "Tony Isabella" ... so much as I merely needed to take a shot at my self publishing goal. I don't stand on the shoulders of other people where my writing is concerned. Several here believe it to be juvenile crap. We live in a free world. Please don't buy anything I've written or plan to print, market, and release. Thank you.

A token writer with talent and integrity. Gail, how dare you!
BTW, Moby, Sturgeon never wrote a story called 'the Host'. Still dunno what that has to do with Gail . . .
Didja know Sturgeon used the pen name 'E. Waldo Hunter'? Why are you quoting someone who obviously doesn't exist according to your rules?

I'm sleep deprived and trying to be polite so if it comes off wrong I apologise at the start.
First, considering Gail a token is just showing ignorance. That's like saying that she's the only working woman in comics, God forbid we actually look at folks like Christina Z, Holly Golightly, Jann Jones (an EDITOR no less) everyone over at sequential tart, Colleen Doran, That canadian cyborg that vexes you so... (sorry Johanna, I had to make the joke.)
And to say "Tony's a guy that's been around too long." is it my imagination or were you the one who always spoke about what a shame it is that the older talent seems to get pushed to the side for the kids that don't know how to tell a story or draw a purty picture? I'm fairly certain that was one of your diatribes.
So basically the thing is, Tony is one of the FEW PEOPLE in this business that has maintained a strong readership over DECADES. Books were written ABOUT him. (okay, maybe not just about him, but if you ever read that Milestone Comics, and their fans book there's a lot about Black Goliath, and Black Lightning and Tony's contribution to characters of color in there.)
To me it's sour grapes. Lord knows I'd like to do an episode of Justice League, or Legion of Super-Heroes like Gail (actually I did almost get a chance to put something before the story editors of JL but I chickened out.) or have characters as long lasting and beloved as Tony's who STILL sees Black Lightning in the pages of Outsiders, and Green Arrow whether he's writing him or not.
Will I? Perhaps. Perhaps not. You can never tell with this business.
But both people deserve respect for making their dreams a reality without having to threaten, conjole or otherwise subvert the hard work of others.

Contrast that with someone who boasts about how they inspired FCBD, and Marvel's 99 cent comic line, and a Star Wars character... and then doesn't have the reality to back that up.
If you have problems with other people actually having accomplishments, then that is your problem.

Here's the thing about Tony and the 2003 MMC:
I remember getting a phone call the week after that show.
You were on the other end, Moby, bitching and moaning about how bad the reviews from Tony (and Jen) were. Tony, please tell me you still have that piece online somewhere so every can see just how bad it was.
Everyone poses for pictures. Everyone wants to be seen as having a good time. At that moment. You think they're gonna turn a sour puss when their appreciative fans are nearby?
And I just knew he'd done that with TLE. I told Momma that exact same scenario 2 weeks ago. He kept it under his expansive belt until he felt the time was right to announce it. That's why the sudden appearance on Jim Main's group; he had to let the small press creators 'know' he's still on their side.
It's so hard to write good villainous plots.

Your wife's name is listed online. It is not illegal that to look into your business and what names are attached to it, you stupid git.
BARBARA OLNEY!
BARBARA OLNEY!
Is that your wife's name? Is Starr your daughter? Or is that "privileged information"?

Ah-ah-ah! People are only criminals after they are convicted. All of Mr. Olney's alleged actions are just that at this time "alleged".
If his actions are criminal or he himself is one is entirely in the hands of the court.

What shocks me is how someone can really call a writer a " token " if thats supposed to be some huge dig against them. Because lets be serious here , Gail's worked on Deadpool , Agent X and has moved to DC to do work there. Its true I'm no huge fan ( I got Villains United last year) of Gail but its just sad to see someone use that in an attempt to discredit her.
More or less it reads like jealousy in a way. That your jealous of the fact that Gail has came in and been able to build a fanbase on her own work. That she's been able to put togethor a near 50 issue run on a series and do work in the mainstream you yourself wish you can do.
Then theres the putdown of Tony Isabella . That he's been in the game too long. You see a Ric Flair ( NWA/WCW/WWF World Champion ) who is in his 50's now and still going ? He's had punks and others tell him its time to step aside and let the young guys take their slots. But as Flair has said...you gotta prove you can beat The Nature Boy. You gotta prove you deserve to walk that isle like Flair and take his spot.
Thus far you've proved nothing. Why should Scott Shaw , Tony Isabella and Kurt Busiek step aside and let you take their spots in the " game " ? Have you proved that you should be there ? Have you honestly showed them your the next Great One ? No...I doubt you have.
Its just ironic to see someone try and cut down established people in the industry and they haven't even produced 1 book to fans. So maybe when things are taken care of and you honestly get people paid...and produce the TOTS you can make that statement . But til then....you don't even get to wash their cars.

Please...use simple words. You keep trying to sound intelligent, but you the words you use are not really the words you want to use and it is making you look really stupid. Idiot, you and your wife dissolved TLE 1/11/07. That's a matter of public record, available to anyone able to contact the clerk's office. It was reformed by you on 1/27/07 without your wife. Also, public record.
So unless making a phone call is now illlegal, your threat is just like you, nutless.

The thing is, he actually had several chances early on to say his side of things. Instead he seems to just react to what others say, avoiding the issues that the non-involved parties are being told about.
How are we supposed to react when the only response is "Everything they say is lies!" Which "everything"?
If I can interject -- The insults from my earliest posts sparked personal attacks. That is all documented. I reacted poorly by responding back, but my replies ... even after I removed them ... were no effective counter slam on the parties involved. That much has been stated (and recorded) here.
"Everything" will be decided for its lie potential. There are areas of 'Talent' matter to be addressed, along with those perpetuating the outright 'gang type' bullying and broken civil laws.
Again, NOBODY here has the facts of what took place with TightLip Entertainment's 'talent' problem. It is complex and secured with legal wordage only lawyers can untangle. Those 'talents" posting here complicated the matter themselves. A Contract, while left broken or unfulfilled by either party doesn't supercede the legally signed NDA's and other, as yet made public information pertaining to the matter. Okay. I just had a thought.
I'm comparing TC and WhiteRose to Jedi, which would make YOR into a Sith.
Then, I was wondering if he was a Vader or a Palpatine, when the realization suddenly hit me.
Remember in Star Wars, when Luke comes up with the plan to rescue Leia, but needs to put Chewie in shackles to do it? They're walking down the hall, and the small droid rolls up to them, and then Chewie roars at it. The droid then turns around and burns rubber out of there.
YOR may be as repugnant as a hutt, but he's as scared and useless as that droid.
