A quick update.

The Unscrewed release is now posted over on The Pulse.

http://comicon.com/pulse/

(its on the sidebar next to the headlines)

And yes, Rick Olney's name is still banned. They had to write 0lney with a zero for it to post.

I love that.

Now I see he was trying to push Ian's buttons by making that announcement and further the rift.

And for a while, it worked. The damage he did to the coheisive network dream I'd originally tried to institute by bringing us all together in the SPA - well, we're not done making it all better yet.

Hey Tom -

I haven't posted while I've been doing edits on a novel - but a ways back I offered to ink something (over Cully's pencils - or whatever, but Cully's an old friend). So count me in. Love to help.

(Or inking Colleen - if she's offered to do anything. We'd done a couple of pieces together back in the day, and I'd love to do that again, especially to help out.)

((Or Larry. That would be kind of cool, eh Lar?))

Thanks James!

Sssssounds grrrrroovy, Mister Movie. :) We shall speak of this! -waves from Oklahoma over to Arizona-

Similarly, if someone wants to 'trib pencils, I can do a painted finish, for the cause.

Also, just had another "hot tub summit" with Misty & she is in for auction items, most especially some of her excellent beadwork. She does bead-weaving (essentially, making cloth from tiny beads) of neck pouches, and bead-stringing of necklaces, computer mascots and the like. They're only ever available by personal gift or charity/cause sources like this, and go for hundreds of bucks. Additionally, she may put in one of her custom dolls if she has one finished in time.
We'll also put in signed books & a signed galley (a proof version of a book).

Oh and yes, to add my encouragement: Ronee and all: Go after Olney. You have motive, means, opportunity, and increasingly, the eyes of an industry on your situation.

Old Hermit Obi-Waid handed you the magic flashlight. Go Deadeye Knights!

Sweet, Larry. You and Misty hug each other for me please.

Doc,

That is how I remember it too, that you were the co admin. I never suspected Ian or anyone other than you know who of messing with my (for whatever reason)account, and I knew who had, and that played into my decision to terminate the relationship. I had enough of the whole soap opera deal which had been going on for a few years.

Best,

Samuel
I didn't even really know who you were back then, why would I hack YOUR profile?

It's crazy, I installed his forum software, configured it for him, turned over the keys and taught him how to use it, then got locked out and IP banned, and I was the bad guy.

See, the root of the fallout was when he attacked people on the SPA site, he started taking posts from the private admin forum and posting them on the MMC site, so while I still had access to his server cause I'd set up the software, I turned off his database, and was deleting the stolen private posts - and was going to turn it back on when done, so he sees the forum is offline, goes nuts, bans me so I can't turn it back on, has the hosting company rollback the site to undo my turning it off, cause he couldn't figure that out, but it had the same effect, cause the rollback would have lost posts from that day.

For years he's threatened me that that was an illegal thing for me to do. That's why I'm such a big hacker. But I was a site admin until he locked me out...and what HE was doing was against the Code of Conduct he agreed to to be a part of the SPA.

He owed me money from numerous things, I was going to sue him. He says rolling back the site cost him hundreds of dollars. So we ended up agreeing that we'd call it even, and never talk to each other again. Now everyone knows the WHOLE story.

If anyone sees anything illegal in what I did that day 4 years ago, let me know.

No seriously, there was a point in time where I was posting on both the MMC (where my message board was) and SPA (where there were more damn people) so after the "falling out" I was still posting on both boards and not a week went by that I wasn't told "be careful of Ian, he's a troll, he's a liar, and he's been trying to break into the site"

There was a WHOLE SECTION about you on the mods only forum. Basically everytime the server was slow you were trying to break in.

I was aware of it, I tried very hard to make sure I didn't post anything in the public sections about Olney, and in the private, I always made sure the mods and co-admins knew I wasn't asking anyone to spy, but that information was appreciated when sent. Eventually, I just didn't care what was going on over there anymore. I had a very rough couple years with my health there, I've had 3 operations on my foot in the past 3 years, plus another scare that landed me in the hospital for weeks on antibiotics and pain meds. God I don't just feel old, I sound old there!

I admit, I have had a certain amount of paranoia about Olney being behind hacker attacks and DOS attacks on the Dimestore site more than once. But that's just cause I don't put ANYTHING out of his range of venom. Now, I'd like to think that the attacks that forced us to do a complete site redesign were NOT Olney - that it was just random stuff designed to hit vonerable sites and we just needed better code. That he wasn't smart enough to pull it off. But a little part of me also says, well, he could have conned someone into the hackings too...

Yeah, things have been tough on this side of the hemisphere. There's this really weird guy that looks kind of like a monkey saying I helped him get into office. Which is rediculous. I take vacations every four years. I figure I work non stop three years in a row, a couple of months on the fourth is a nice way to recharge my batteries..

But you know they're not all bad.. I mean they have a mall with a Rollercoaster in it. how bad ass is that? Plus you know, skee-ball. I loves me some skee-ball.

The Cane Toads are Jim's department. He is the devil and everything. I try to give him projects to do so he won't get bored and bother me. That typhoon in asia a few years back was him too. My bad. I just really wanted to catch the series finale of everybody loves raymond. I thougt maybe they'd tell me why everyone liked the dude so much.

I got gipped. The producers of the show are now counting grains of sand on a beach that gets hotter and hotter by the minute.

Information favorable or unfavorable needed. We had a C.O.D. problem with this

Dear Nostalgia Zone,

Thank you for your generous donation to ORCA (Organized Readers of Comics Something Something Something).

I hope I don't have to sue you to make you realize that you made a charity donation by sending me those books (Spider-Man #16, Fantastic Four #23).

You can totally deduct the cost of the books and the COD.

On a completely unrelated note, I now have some old issues of Spider-Man and Fantastic Four I'd be willing to selling you if you are interested.

Sincerely,
Rick Olney

The guy posted the following on Rick's blog at MySpace:

http://blog.myspace.com/orcafresh (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=59528410&blogID=221989140&MyToken=d05e021f-f6b5-4903-b357-6d9d6fc4dd9f)

Rick,

I have asked for an edit on the Beat. You can't self edit messages on the Beat to the best of my knowledge.

And yes, I am grateful for the keen stuff I used to get from Orca. It was great to discuss comics with others at such a young age.

And I apologize for taking too many sayings about you online at face value. I guess the sheer bevy of them confused me. However, the very fact that you were so kind and cordigal on the phone will make me take a second look at things in the future. I apologize for calling you crazy. I think you might just be misunderstood.

I've heard the tears story...

My foot's been a problem since I was born...total I've had probably a dozen surgeries, most when I was a baby to reconstruct the club foot I was born with. Others to adjust continued complications from it. I'm not out of the woods on it, after lengthening my heel chord, fusing a main joint with metal pins, and taking out some other bits and peices, it's still hurting, and severely weakened...I've had to turn down a bunch of convention appearances cause of it. I actually go to the Dr's this coming Tuesday to go over an MRI I just had done and see if there is anything else they can do...but my feeling is that there's not much else they can do except pain manage it.

But look at it this way, something positive is coming from all this. People are getting reaquainted, new friends are being made, and hell we may even show this silly little business a thing or three. :)

Yeah, first, I don't blame Michael for retracting his post at all. Either he's creeped out by Rick, or Rick convinced him that the dozens of people he's cheated are all liars, or maybe he rediscovered some fond memories of when Orca was actually a real club and not just a sham, or maybe he just wanted not to be involved at all.

I don't blame him a bit. I just find it creepy that Olney called so he could have ONE person defend him.

Rick replies (he's so misunderstood):

Michael,

Thank you so much for the retraction and apology. I don't think I could ever have imagined that I'd end up being so unliked in a hobby and industry that I helped to grow and guide over the last 20 years. Yeah, after thinking about it -- I might be crazy. Who else but a crazy man back in the mid to late 1990s would've tried to make a hobby and activity like reading and comic books exciting by gathering youngsters together, while also going to talk at schools to parents and teachers. Did you ever walk with us all in any of the local parades where we handed out free comics and candy? I have been recalling more of those times during the last couple of days. What became of your friend from Deerfield? You know, I still have that comic you guys made back then.

Anyway, it was nice to hear from you again even with the slanted remarks. I wouldn't sell those books on ebay though... maybe someday your own son or daughter might want to know what you did as a hobby as a kid. Good luck with your life, career, and don't believe everything you read.

Gail

It's funny too after Olney's claimed invasion of privacy over people looking up public information legal through the Freedom of Information Act, yet it's okay to call some poor guy he hasn't seen for years at home to harrass him about an internet post.

I'm sure Olney used a combo of guilt "Remember all those free comics I gave you?" and implied legal action "What you said could be seen as libel." on the guy.

That's sad, but what did make me laugh was "wait for my lawyer to get around to you."

I just imagined a guy (if one did exist) sitting on a pile of briefings screaming "STOP TALKING FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD!" Then Rick starts going on about how stalkers must be made to pay and all that stuff the poor schyster slumps in his chair silently weeping to himself thinking "Mom wanted me to be a crack dealer, but NOOOOOOOO I wanted to *help* people. Just so you guys know, I'm getting an E-Bay auction together in conjunction with the UNSCREWED site.

I've been contacting creators and so far have gotten responses from a respectable amount of folks. I'm still waiting on responses from some before I announce anything official. <cough>Gail<cough>

Let me be clear about something. Any monies made are to help those creators stiffed by Olney make ends meet.

Olney didn't just stiff the people who worked for him. He stiffed their families. He cancelled Christmas for some, endangered mortgage payments for others. He took food off their tables. He kept them from paying work with false promises of living up to his obligations.

While Olney plays his sad, sick little games with imaginary lawsuits and magic NDAs, these creators are trying their best just to get by.

This auction is to help the creators and their families. It in no way, shape, or form absolves Olney of his debts.

Still catching up, but seems like the eBay auction would work better than something at a con. Too many auctions might get confusing perhaps.

Still catching up, but seems like the eBay auction would work better than something at a con. Too many auctions might get confusing perhaps.

Check the eBay rules on charity auctions.

But yes, an internet auction will bring in far more than an auction at a con.

Be sure to read my next blog, as it touches upon what I'm going to learn today regarding your hateful online attacks. I feel sorry for you and people like Sarah Beach. Trolls like the many posting here in this oversized gutters cesspool are at home, but you and Sarah have an agenda of hate and it will consume you.

I know of nothing in the website rules here that allows such actions. So this is the sad poor exception. Get your story straight, and have Mr. Waid in your back pocket. You're going to need him.

The nice folks at Charlie Foxtrot Productions (the ex-marine media studio led by Tom Waltz) are interested in donating a story for the anthology or website. An 8pager by the Children of The Grave team of Waltz and Malone.

If y'all want it, let me know. I'll put Tom in contact with you. :)

Dear Rick's Imaginary Lawyer,

Hey! How's it going?

Doesn't it suck to have a client who has left such a massive paper trail of deception and dishonesty, and such a large wake of people he's promised payment to and never delivered? And who has made egregious, horrifying comments based on race, gender, and sexuality? And who threatens people constantly with lawsuits, showing his complete ignorance of the law over and over again even when faced with the facts in black and white?

Man, if you existed, I'd feel bad for you, with a client like that!

Who's angry, Rick? I find you HILARIOUS.

The whining, the pleading, the lying, the sock puppets, the meltdowns, the cheating and not being able to keep the stories straight, the horrible writing, the awful grammar, the use of made-up words that don't exist, the calling other people names that apply much more truthfully to yourself, the idea that you have 'fans,' the idea that you'll be able to control the discussion of people you've cheated, it's all hilarious and desperate.

And nothings funnier than you desperately trying to erase your own words, gutless little deadbeat!

Face it, you're unintentionally a RIOT!

Ronee, I'm not discussing your situation or ANY of the specific talent under work-for-hire with me here. Your credibility is just as shot with me as you claim to dislike, distrust and abhor me. Fine. Just re-read your emails of yesterday, because that is that last I'll be communicating with you. You'll be dealt with fairly. But I'm not handling it.

Hey Rick, are you going to pay Dave Rothe the $90 you owe him for making the Freedom 3 logo that's three years overdue?

How is it that people who aren't involved with any magic NDA nonsense you keep blathering on about haven't been paid all these years?

Did Gail travel back in time and somehow make you not pay those debts when due?

It's amazing. We have actual facts of debts not paid by you, that are still outstanding, yet everything hinges on a make believe vendetta the world is waging on Planet Olney. How many years back does that retroactively excuse you from being a man and paying what you owe?

You keep talking, Rick. I'll keep looking for the eventual bankruptcy you'll be filing.

I still maintain that Werthum's Superman complex theory has a great deal to do with all that has made this message thread as large as it is.
Could you explain that theory again? I don't recall Wertham mentioning Internet messageboards.

Just read the first couple hundred pages of this thread, and I can say that I don't want to buy a book that Rick is involved in now. I am aware that it isn't supporting the creators, but then again they'll probably not get money from it anyway...

I can't understand people like this. He's got all these people saying that he cheated them (And I very much doubt a mass conspiracy against him), and then he acts like he's the victim when they speak out about it? I'm aware I'm not in the position of publisher, and if I was I'd pay money to people, but if people criticized me, I wouldn't just go "You'll hear from my attorney.", I'd try to be civil about it, but perhaps that's where the two of us differ.

Also, I find it rather funny that he editted all his posts near the beginning of the thread, in case someone was to use those posts against him legally in court.

In any case, I'd say that this whole business has a lot of potential to mess up his rep, as well as being detrimental to the sales of his books. And when you're an Indie publisher, that's the last thing you want to do.

Where is it? Or is this something we don't advertise here? Sheesh, this is like asking about Gail's husband's airfare to Orca himself.
