Careful, Jack...Blake slit the throat of his old best friend and sold his spleen on the black market.
I bought that spleen! We're gonna' get along great, Blake!
It was more of a beige market, actually.
Yeah, the black market only deals in useful stolen organs. The beige market carries spleens, tonsils, and appendices (do you pluralize that organ, or is it like sheep and deer?).
I prefer Troy Hickman's Acidic Jew.
Edit: Damn, Jack beat me to it. Still, much love for Troy and Common Grounds.
Quit trying to be like me, Tom! I'm flattered that you haven't shaved in weeks and grew your hair out, cut off one of your toes and threw away any chance you had in comics by calling Dan Didio "D Didi" in an app, but you can't be me man.

"Ace Attorney" and "Trauma Center" made buying a DS worth it.

It's called Common Grounds, my good man. Top Cow published it. Troy Hickman wrote it. A whole lot of incredible artists pencilled it. It's all collected and I wholly encourage you to pick it up.

As entertaining as this is, I want more Olney-fishing, more updates on pending action, more horror stories. We're staggering off into irrelevance here.
I checked with a Marine acquaintance, and got an inconclusive report back. Couldn't find any record of his existence, but also couldn't get to most of the records without a signed release from the defendant. As a matter of fact, a civilian can get more records than a military officer in a case like this.
I have the proper form (SF 180), but I thought somebody else might be submitting one. If not, I'll go ahead and send mine in.
Even though the military thing is utterly irrelevant, I just want to rub his nose in it and call him a lying liar who lies.
I'm petty that way.

I've been willing to accept that he did military service of some sort. But the way he harps on the "honorable discharge" thing does make me suspect that his over-all record ain't quite so pretty.
I feel like we're twiddling our thumbs waiting while the judge conducts evidentiary hearings, from which the jury is excluded.

In general, threads will still be split at the 5000 mark. It's a historical holdover true, but it also makes the threads a little easier to manage for the moderators.
This particular monster is being linked all over the web, so to make it easier for people to follow the story, it's being kept in one piece. That's the only reason I don't want to split it.

I've lived here for over two years now... Sorta like you, I just got a form letter from the County commissioner asking for personal details about myself, and stating that its a CRIME to not fill it out and mail it in.
Guess what?
Threw that bitch in the trash! There is no such law, and if there is -- somebody better cite it to me and be able to prove that a standard mailed letter actually reached me. It isn't that I'm anti-do-my-duty. I just hate being approached that way. I mean, offer to buy me lunch or something. You know?
Good luck with your summons!I can't help but note his complete 180 degree turn on the absolute authority of legal forms from this post to his current NDA dramas!

As for Olney. Don't get me wrong. I would never do something to get myself arrested. However, in public, I COULD legally make his life hell by asking questions rather loudly. :)

Send me an image of your favorite outlaw picture. I'll see if I can beg one of my colorists to do a quick "fix" for you.
In fact one of my colorists/artists had been affected by Rick's stuff, although I'm not sure if she'll be getting involved seeing as she split when they failed to come to a contractual agreement in the manner of her pleasing.

Not sure if this has been linked to before, but I found an old orcafresh post at jinxworld , from 23 December 2005:
Quote:
Re: so i got a jury summons
I've lived here for over two years now... Sorta like you, I just got a form letter from the County commissioner asking for personal details about myself, and stating that its a CRIME to not fill it out and mail it in.
Guess what?
Threw that bitch in the trash! There is no such law, and if there is -- somebody better cite it to me and be able to prove that a standard mailed letter actually reached me. It isn't that I'm anti-do-my-duty. I just hate being approached that way. I mean, offer to buy me lunch or something. You know?
Good luck with your summons!
I can't help but note his complete 180 degree turn on the absolute authority of legal forms from this post to his current NDA dramas!
I wonder if he's going to treat his current summons any better than this previous one?
He threw away a jury summons just because the preliminary questionaire was a friggin' form letter??? Did he really expect a personal note? "Dear Mr. Olney, we've noted that you've been a resident for X years now. Are you enjoying living in the community? What's your favorite food, by the way? We want to make sure we have some at hand when you come in to serve on a jury!"
Yeah, right. Mr. "Honorable Discharge".
In LA County, they're getting stickier about jury service. They revised the process, so that you don't actually have to spend 10 days sitting in the jury room on the off chance you might be needed. Now they only make you come into the court-house if they're actually planning to select a jury for a case. And they'll fine you if you don't arrange compliance (you can delay service, but eventually you DO have to go in).
But, you know... hardly a surprise he's a jerk about civic duty. Heh.
EDITED TO ADD: And what makes him so sure that it is not a crime to not fill out the jury information form? What a duffus. It might be a misdemeanor, but even so.... Like I said, a jerk.
Jack Zodiac

Attorney: So how can I help you?
RO: Well see, I started this this publishing company a couple years ago, this was after I scammed a bunch of plebes into giving me free comics and stiffed a ton of guests I duped into coming to my failed convention.
Anyways, I started this company up to fulfil my dream of working in the hobbies and/or industry of comics. This was my only recourse because
a). I have the writing skill and wit of a brain damaged tree slug
and
b). that crumb catcher Scott Shaw! has been keeping me down!
I didn't have any money so I solicted work from freelancers and then never paid them.
Can you imagine the that they dared to complain?!
I read somewhere that the best legal defense is running willy nilly all over the internet like a possessed loon on crack, posting whenever and whatever came to mind.
These plebes are making my happy meal dreams come true!!!
I want them sued for complaining, sued for suing me, sued for talking about me, sued for looking up information, and sued for not liking me.
So, how much can we take them for? I need some funds to publish my books.
Attorney: Mr. Olney, you have multiple suits against you, your being investigated for fraud, your company has been disolved. The best case scenario has you bankrupt and the laughing stock of the comic industry. Otherwise you're facing prison time for multiple federal offenses.
RO: So, like it's like a 50/50 chance of me making millions?
Attorney: Get out of my office.

Aw, Gee! That's why I feel so in sync & tune with you! Me too! (well, not the degree in psych - on my part, it's just amateur, but diligent study.)
When Olney first showed up over on Dixonverse, like I've said, I've been reading a book on sociopaths. But I've also read just about everything on profiling that I can get my hands on. So, as a specimen, Olney intrigued me. I "idly" started profiling him back in November - and didn't quite believe what I was coming up with. My initial evaluation, which I thought was flippant, because it seemed too extreme to be real, was: he's a sociopath who thinks he's a righteous man. Kind of scary to find out I was far more correct than I thought.

Eh, those get into public office and board rooms all the time in the USA. They aren't uncommon.
BTW, when Misty & I first had stalker trouble of any note, we consulted with Gavin de Becker ( https://www.gavindebecker.com/bios-gavin_de_becker.cfm ). Very nice man, with a solid organization. If you're interested in profiling, one can argue that he wrote the book. :)
As the Olney situation unfolded, Misty and I were both periodically going, "Uh huh... seen THAT behavior before."
Big kudos to everyone who has dug up the latest news on TLE & Olney. Good work.

Even under the best of circumstances sometimes figuring out why isn't easy. That said, it's not impossible either. In the end, you do know yourself better then anyone else. It's not easy, but if you cut through the muck, you can find answers. Sometimes quite brutal ones.
Figuring out why other people do it is at best a mixed bag. No one ever fully knows the story even with the best knowledge of a person. It's fun to speculate though. Tom does a scaringly good job with Rick...but I have to go with an earlier thing...you have TOO good spelling and grammar. You don't have the psychosis down just right.

Since there are Borg action figures and Christmas orniments (I love a borg cube on my Christmas Tree), and the term Borg is very much Star Trek (owned by Paramount, right?), isn't using a character called Frankenborg a trademark infringement? They might be interested in tossing a cease and decist someone's way if they knew...
Eh, "borg" is short for Cyborg. If the character has nothing to do with an alien race that assimilates organic beings, he might get away with it.

I want to put comic books into the hands of anyone willing to read and try to enjoy them. We need your assistance. You can help!
Send me as many names of schools, hospitals, barbershops, youth groups, or Native American Reservations via this message board thread. Be creative in your approah to determining who might like a bunch of free comic books. I'll see that each entry is contacted and that conditions are met to arrange an exchange of comics to any/all groups, individuals ect. that are interested after our contact.
The idea here is to send ORCA the info to work from. We realize that you are too busy to do the 'leg work' on this. Just pull the information out of your local telephone book. Please, the more contact information the better. We can put smiles on a large number of faces with your small show of help.
International contacts are requested as well. Please provide full contact information. The more the better!
Please note: Anyone NOT interested in publicly posting can email me (in private and confidentialy) me at: ORCA_comics@yahoo.com or
ORCA_Fresh@hotmail.com
Again, I have reason to believe that a few of you are in localities that have Native American Reservations. Please - Let us specifically do those kids and people a favor by sending them a selection of free comic books.
Thank You

Just chiming in with some stuff...maybe some of this has been refrenced, maybe some not, but here's some links to Rick-Stuff from Comicon. It's just too bad the Gutters area gets flushed every so often, because alot of Rick's best meltdown's/gun rants/Native American bashing occurred there.
Anywho...read some of these things...
Rick talks of McFarlane naming a character after ORCA (http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/35/t/000979.html)
"...Todd was nice enough to honor our group by creating a hitman character named "ORCA" in issue #46 (or was that #47?)..."
Rick laments nobody wishing him a happy birthday (http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/35/t/000460.html)
"Let's just say "sincerity" is lacking."
Rick wants to box Buck (http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/35/t/000299.html)
"No "N's" .... no "T's" ... just plenty of good old hometown hospitality. Come get some!
Oh, and do the world a favor, pal ... Get a REAL screen name. eheheheh...."
Talking about stereotypes (http://www.comicon.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi/ubb/get_topic/f/35/t/000324.html)
"There is very little honor in being cute with words."
"I'm not an authority, nor do I present myself as one to this forum. I just know "the Truth" about this matter."
Begging for books (http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/35/t/000581.html)
Alot of talk of Rick's Comicon past (http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/42/t/000581.html)
"I never said I wasn't an idiot. I'm just not good at hiding it."
"You're not trying to do a 'meltdown' like I did last fall, are you?
Ummm, so you know ... if you need a good lawyer.."
Apologies and fake ID's (http://www.comicon.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/42/t/001014.html) *Fixed Link*
"Regardless of what I felt were 'driving factors in my making, what later was identified by others as threats, to him ... I should have been more mature."
Enjoy what you can with 'em!
Heh. More copies!
Stereotypic namecalling under ANY circumstances is WRONG! Have I called you names? No. Will I? No. Nor will back off on this topic. Those of you that CLING to this type of behavior of 'tagging' other comic book readers are IGNORANT. Clear cut, plain and simple!

Reading that Comicon stuff. Yeesh. Haven't they made great progress in therapy and medication for his condition over the years?
I haven't really commented on this issue much on this thread because as a professional in the field, I'm wary of too readily ascribing a diagnosis to someone based on very limited information - and particularly in cases like this, in which much of what is available might just be stupid bluster. Some have suggested that the individual in question may have either a psychopathic or a narcissitic personality. For the reasons noted above, I'm going to decline to state my opinion on this matter, but for information's sake, it is worth noting that narcissistic and psychopathic personality dynamics are not mutually exclusive, and indeed, there is much overlap between these two personality types.
Therapy is only helpful to those that recognize they have a problem, want help and accept responsibility for their own behavior. Even then, therapy is a very slow process and produces only limited results over an extended period of time when used in to address personality disorders. Medication doesn't help at all. If a person has a personality disorder, that's not just a condition or a problem; by definition, the person's personality - his core sense of identity and way of thinking about, perceiving and interacting with the world - *is* the problem.
This is something I work with a lot. In my clinical practice, I work extensively with individuals with certain sorts of personality disorders, most typically borderline and histrionic personality disorders. I occasionally work with narcissistic and psychopathic individuals as well, though the latter much less often since I stopped working in forensic or correctional settings. Psychotherapy with personality disorders is very slow, difficult work, and the results are generally rather limited. Narcissistic and psychopathic individuals are particularly difficult to work with, as they are almost never self-motivated to change - when they enter into therapy at all, it's almost always when forced to do so by the legal system or at risk of being discharged from a job or educational setting - and because the underlying nature of these disorders makes it difficult for the individual to recognize/accept he or she has a problem. Robert Hare, probably the leading expert on psychopathy, notes that all the clinical outcome and research data on psychopathy suggests that almost no psychopaths ever gain anything from psychotherapy, and what gains they do make either a) have little or nothing to do with the core psychopathy (i.e., they may make gains in other problems, such as depression or social skills), or more or less represent the person simply becoming a somewhat more functional psychopath. Outcomes for narcissists aren't much better.

Regarding his thing about contacts at Native American reservations, I ran across something last week, doing an idle search on his name, where he'd posted to some Native American community message board, about his wanting to collect and donate comics to kids on reservations. He seemed to be looking for contact information or even an interested response.
The amusing thing, to me, was that his post just sat there in the middle of some other more general exchanges by the posters, rather like a lame duck. They weren't interested and so didn't respond.
I really should have taken note of it. I don't remember the parameters of the search that turned up the link. (If I get the time today, I'll see if I can find it.)

If I might make another suggestion...
I just got e-mailed by another Olney screw-ee this morning, trying to figure out what to do. I suggested he e-mail Gail, just because she seems to be the contact point, so she's got the most names and addresses. I also suggested he read through this thread for information and ideas on what to do.
But you know, the thread's coming up on 600 pages now, and it takes so long for a newcomer to go through it all that that I'm not sure how useful it is in terms of helping out the people the thread's supposed to be helping out.
It's not like all the jokes and snark hasn't been fun for people to post, but after this long, it becomes a barrier to anyone trying to find actual helpful information in the thread.
If someone would be interested in distilling the thread down to actual facts, useful strategies, offers of help like Mark's, and suchlike, and posting it somewhere people can be pointed to, that would be helpful. But if someone has to wade through thousands of posts to find out, say, that Rick's dissolved the business, they may never find it. Fun as it is to tweak Rick for ignoring a jury summons (which isn't what his quote said; you've just been misreading it out of joy at having another club to rhetorically hit him with), it does tend to bury the useful data in the thread for anyone who really needs it.
I'm not saying you should stop, if you're enjoying it. I'm just saying that some sort of sifting process to make the useful, informational bits available to those who need them, in some clear and compact setting, might be a good thing too.

Holy fecking shyte, when is he gonna realize the time for veiled threats and inaction is over? He's busier trying to cover his tracks and indiscretions than he is seeking the so-called 'damages' through the legal system he alternately loves and despises.
Think about it:
If you had an attorney on retainer who provided you with the advice on the actions that Moby's been taking lately, wouldn't you be more than happy to toss his name around?
This is like watching a captive cricket scramble to the next bit of shadow after the last one's been removed. And then chirp out its location.
His claims about the Star Wars character have been refuted. TLE is kaput. Investigations into the charity status and activities of ORCA are being investigated. Comics in the Classroom, which he's been bragging about as sole creator, turned out to have been started by someone else that he simply tried to bully outta the way cuz he thought of the same thing.
It's gonna take a lot more than one finger to plug up the leaks in his dam.
Yet he's still posturing, still ignoring what he promised, still bandying threats of legal action. Does he honestly believe this new round is gonna make him look any better under a judge's scrutiny? Feck, his actions since last week alone more than solidify our claims. What exactly is he hoping to prove at this point?
I can say it now:
Our attorney has been up in the Mohawk Valley since last week Friday. He hasn't returned yet so we haven't heard exactly what he's been doing. We do know he took his wife along with him (as he always does), and she is a fully-licensed paralegal.
Soon as he returns and we get a summary and the okay, I'll let you know what was accomplished.

Think about it:
If you had an attorney on retainer who provided you with the advice on the actions that Moby's been taking lately, wouldn't you be more than happy to toss his name around?
I've mentioned this before in private to some people, but to be fair I think the "attorney on retainer" is something of an exageration. I think the truer idea, if he does in fact have representation, is that he's taken part in a pre-paid legal thing, which I know a lot of the small businesses in my area do, where you pay a certain amount every month and you have a person who will give you legal advice on hand at any time.
Oftentimes, (depending on how large the office is) you don't speak to the same person about the matter at hand. Basically you call in, and a paralegal takes the information you want to discuss, or makes a note that you wish to discuss a matter with an attorney, and then the case will be handed to whomever is available at the time, who will then contact you back and go over your matter with you.
"On retainer" generally applies to the fact that you have a single attorney who is contracted to you, to field any legal challenges or matters you may come across. It's always the same attorney, or rather, the same firm.
But to have an attorney on retainer (unless you happen to come from a family of lawyers like I do) it takes an INSANE amount of money every month to keep them on a 24hr legal watch as it were, where they have to drop everything should you need something.
I, like most people have been threatened conjoled, bullied, etc. when I "stepped out of line" but dealing with this sort over time I knew that there wasn't a lot that could be done, and while I'm no scholar, I do know a thing or three about the law, thanks to the aforementioned family, and Steven Bochco dramas.
While it's POSSIBLE for some of the things Rick has asserted he would have his lawyer file, they are in as much "non-starter cases" which get thrown out before the gavel hits the desk, because its a waste of courts time to deal with things that are in essence trivial.

Isn't the current joking just adding more dross for people to dig through?
Just sayin'.
I think the joking keeps people coming back and helps keep it going.
There are two sites a page or so back that are supplying recaps.
I think if we create a new thread and sticky them, it should all be covered.

That's a lot of assumptions there...first off money...as in does he have any? The other thing is that Rick seems to be moving quickly to bury himself...he's already dug a large enough hole I think.
At the very beginning of all this, I told him to put down the shovel. I explained the Rule of Holes.
So, do I get to shout a big honkin' "Told ya so!" at this point?

He lives near one. The elementary school shown in his Classmates listing is today used by the local reservation.

It can do both. One does not cheapen the other.
And the jokes are a good release and bonding moment for those affected and hurt.
If everyone was just posting angry and not joking, I suspect this thread would have probably burnt out a long time ago and not done a lot of the good that it has.
Besides, this is YABS, I think the joking is assumed.

There are 8300+ posts here. People joke in-between meaningful content. Ed's idea is a great one. Lock a thread and add just pertinent stuff. I will add a link in my signature linking to it, and others should hopefully do the same. Meanwhile, this thread can continue as it has.

You're very right Matt, I do believe that some of the things that have been said are somewhat unfair, although I have written a lot of it off as people who are just upset not with the fact that they have been wronged, but because the person that wronged them hasn't been forthright in admitting the failure, and instead hopes that threats and argument can cause the matter to go away.
I have to admit, its one of those things that people get caught up and lose sight of the cause, hopefully it doesn't run too far off center and people lose sight of what's really important...
I'm honestly surprised that it's gone on this long without any "pot stirring" from Rick, I'm happy he's quieted down and hopefully sooner or later he'll learn how to put all this behind him, as will everyone effected by it.

It doesn't shock me Tom's search of Rick's business turned up that Rick had pretty much tried to end it on the 11th of Jan. Because if anyone looks back he snapped at Tom for during a search into his background around that time period. When Tom informed him he had every right to do it , he came back all nice.
Thats when he realized that Tom was gonna look into Tightlip. Its a shock someone would do all this and proclaim how rightous they were.

I think you're dreaming, Danny. And I say that in the mildest of tones, no wish to insult. As far as we can tell from the record on the internet, he doesn't "learn how to put all this behind him" at all. I think that demonstrated fact contributes to the "piling on" that has occured. He shows absolutely no remorse.
Anyway, gang, I'm slowly compling the basic chronology of recent events on the Unscrewed site. The additional side information that has turned up here will also be copied over there, gathered together, so that it will be much easier to find. I'm also planning to add links from the "Olney Files" back to OzBat's recap of events, and this thread.

Matt, you should actually go back and skim some of the postings, here. Let him 'speak' for himself. He's a paranoid and sociopathic, Indy-level Carpetbagger, who has likely done more damage than any one man over the last two years to the goal of many here--having a thriving, healthy, competitive and creatively rich and diverse Independent market. He gathers the most creative people around him, makes big promises, then seemingly methodically attempts to destroy any faith or hope they have in ever being paid for doing anything original, on a level unheard of--this is coming from someone who has done commercial illustration professionally for close to 25 years--this is the most abusive, soulless scumbag I've experienced--out of dozens. He is an Antibody to creativity, conscious of it or not. If you think this is a witch-hunt, you have no familiarity with the subject. The man belongs in a mental hospital, for life.

I think of the jokes and 'drift' as little doodles in the corners of the pages.
you can get more great knowlege out of a textbook that has words AND pictures, than one w/ just blocks of text.
So, while I get Kurt's point, I think that what Ed said is true. People are coming back to this thread over and over because it is a fun thread. If it were just a bitch-fest (and how to take action against peanut, I'd bet there would be a lot less traffic here.

My interest is in being able to link my organization, Organized Readers of Comics Associated, with groups of native American tribes. We are ORCA, and we want to provide *free* comicbooks for reading purposes to children of direct Native American decent. The comicbook has long been undervalued as a reading support tool for children. Repetitive reading is a superb way for children to strengthen their ability. Please contact me at: ORCA_fresh@hotmail.com if you, the reader of this message, are interested. I can also be reached online by you going to: http://www.comicon.com and using that posting board under the AND STILL, I WAIT topic thread. You'll need to briefly register to access comicon but I promise that it will be worth it should you decide to accept my offer for *free* comics. Also - Please feel free to forward my offer & contact info to any other Native American elders or persons in Teaching positions within any tribe located anywhere in the United States of America. Thank You.

Yes Sarah you may call me a dreamer! (but I'm not the only one...) Okay, enough Beatles references. :-p
I know even though I much prefer my world of fantasy, I'm not blind to the realities that we'll ever get a mutual happy ending.
Also I agree with both points, Matt and his dissenters have made. Yes, the name calling and other "hate" messages could be considered uncalled for, it's not as if people are ganging up on an innocent. There have been just as many firery remarks from his side of things as well.
And many people have first hand been subjected to his war of words, and I think some, in the cases of Gail, and Jim Taylor, and Jim Ritchey, etc. have pent up aggression stemming from their past treatment that they're trying to release.
In the end everyone is in charge of themselves. Hopefully people who make those mistakes will come forward and say "I was out of line" at some point but there are others that keep sending hate out and being surprised when it gets returned to them two fold (actually a wiccan teaching if I'm correct, "what you send out you recieve times 2")
There are many people who have excuses. Except for Ritchey, that guy is just a complete ass. :-p And the devil incarnate. Go ahead look at his Social Security number it's 666-66-6666

No, two wrongs proverbially DON'T make a right--but this IS cathartic, to the extreme. The man threatened to tie me up in court for years if I ever publicly told anyone THIS: The details of a factual email exchange in which I went ballistic on his Nazi arse, after the SOB publicly undermined (on various forums for over a month before I was warned by others) my tenuous relationship (after SEVERE time-related inker issues) with Bill Black and AC Comics, on my revamp of the golden age character, Green Lama--because Rick wanted to publish it. I was already on to Olney by September of 2005, never signed an NDA (told him I'd sign his if he signed mine--which I don't really have), and I DID NOT WANT THAT, under any circumstances. AC was functionally my last chance, short of self-publishing, which I'm pursuing--having founded a 'co-op', of sorts. If I'd known it was all bluster, earlier, I might have been the 'Voice Crying in the Wilderness'--but I did privately warn anyone I liked who was considering doing work for him about what a sorry individual he is. Is it wrong to pick on bullies, to fight them with their own weapons? These are the trenches for anything remotely resembling original comics work, and this guy is as close to a Hitler--or WORSE--a Jim Shooter--as we're likely to have. He's mediocre, at best as a creator, and resents and attempts to sabotage his betters.
There are many people who have excuses. Except for Ritchey, that guy is just a complete ass. :-p And the devil incarnate. Go ahead look at his Social Security number it's 666-66-6666

I thought I'd (again) see if I could give you some opportunity to re-think coming to upstate New York this next June 5th and 6th for the 2004 Mighty Mini-Con.
Here's my offer and skinny:
Okay, I've listed below what is provided to 2004 guests of the Mighty Mini-Con.
* Air Fare to and from your point of departure and arrival point.
* Hotel for Friday, Saturday, Sunday, with check out on Monday morning.
* A Green Room during the days events of Saturday and Sunday. You will be provided
lunch and beverages during both days.
* Upon check-in, you'll be greeted with an envelope containing $100 dollars for
incidentals.
* There is a Gala Comics & Collectables auction Saturday Night at 7-9pm to benefit
the St. Jude Children's Center. If you, Dark Horse, or any friends of yours (even non-attendees)
could donate an item or two ... THAT would be great! We really want to raise a couple thousand dollars for the charity.
* After the auction, there will be a gathering ... (read "party") in the
bar. I'm providing the first hour open, and I expect there to be munchies or something
also provided. Also Karoke!! So warm up your croonin' voice.
* There is a breakfast Sunday morning. You are invited. It will be open to all guests, SPA
members, my special guests, and anyone working the convention.
* I may have a private dinner on Sunday evening after the convention officially concludes. All the other aspects above are set in motion and confirmed events. The
dinner is not as yet. And, it might end up being by invitation for anyone who helped us raise a ton of cash for St Jude's.
If anything other than above is added...I'll certainly let you know. So what do you think? If you decide yes, then I'll be back in touch with you in January to
begin the arranging of the details. I offered you a bed & breakfast last year and their was no room in your schedule. I'll happily accomodate you...just talk to me, "Oh great white hunter!" ;D
The Mighty Mini-Con ain't no small show. I've booked 4 Star Wars film guests, and none of them have seen upstate New York. Two are new to the convention circuit and one is a primary actor from the last Star Wars episode.
I'm only looking to guest 6 people on your guest tier.

A quick thought about dross:
Yes, it affects the signal-to-noise ratio. But by making the thread open and fun, we've been able to learn much more about Olney than we would have otherwise. I do think Kurt's suggestion of having a one-page summary for new participants is vital, though.
As for the clean hands doctrine...some of the nastiness just comes from the pain of dealing with Olney. He's infuriating, annoying, and downright demonic at times. I can't blame anyone who's come close to crossing a line. In a perfect world, it should be contained, but this isn't a perfect world. Olney provokes anger and frustration, especially if you're one of his victims. Now that he's not posting anymore, I agree that we should keep it civil. But some of those posts came during Olney's peak as a poster, and he's more annoying than a bed full of bedbugs and Republicans.
(Republicans- substitute liberals in that last sentence if it makes you happy.)

You have a lot of problems with contracts, so I can understand the slip...but you meant to be contrary. And I never said your blog wasn't open to comments...I'm saying a defender could post their thoughts somewhere that wouldn't be open to your detractors filling up the comments section with argument if they so chose. Marcia and Steven Thompson and Kristy Gleason were not writing or drawing, but instead were dressed up as superheroes and supervillains (Supergirl, Bluntman and Typhoid Mary) at the Arcane Sanctuary booth. For a donation, they would pose for pictures with fans. They were raising money for charity (St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, which also benefited from the Mighty Mini-Con auction).

Just a couple of thoughts about this thread, based on comments in the last few pages...
This thread is linked all over the net at the moment. Even if we create a "best of" page or whatever, they're still gonna come here first. We could probably include links to the cliff notes essentials in Gail's opening post, that might divert a lot of people to the important stuff.
I don't want to go through and cull all the silly stuff out.
1. It's a huuuuuge job, and
2. We justifiably took Olney to task for editing his posts. Are we then going to do the same with the entire thread?
I've probably got a couple of options that will still involve carpal tunnel syndrome and stressed eyeballs on my part, but I'm willing to give it a go:
I could copy the entire thread, and cull out everything except the pertinent points, a "greatest hits" thread so to speak. Or,
Create a new thread, with links to individual posts in this thread to create the "greatest hits" thread.
Or, if somebody is already doing this elsewhere, let me know!

This guy called Joanne, one of the nicest and most talented creators anywhere, a douche bag and a sick bitch. He made gay jokes about Mark Waid. He made jokes about people's appearance, he made anti-woman comments, and lest we not forget, he laughed about cheating people over Christmas AND made legal and physical threats to people who merely voiced a contrary opinion sternly. I have frankly lost count of the truly offensive things he's said and done, and my sympathy goes not to the victimizer, but to the people's he's abused, threatened, lied to, insulted, and cheated.
Feel free to weep for this guy's hurt feelings elsewhere. "Unfair," my ass.

Olney's a big boy. He certainly had no trouble dishing it out. He's sought contempt and found it.
Keep in mind this is the same person who for years, either by deception or threats, cheated pretty much everyone he crossed. A person quick to turn on his friends if they questioned his amoral ways. A person ready to fling vile insults when asked for the most base truth.
Olney feels no remorse for his actions, only fear now that he's caught, exposed to truth he can't hide anymore.

It is very easy, if one is or has become emotionally disengaged from a situation, to step back and say "You guys are making too much noise out of this." The thing is that saying that can sometimes be a little bit like saying to someone whose spouse died three months earlier, "Cheer up. Your whole life is ahead of you."
I would agree that under normal circumstances, the amount of mockery of one person which has occured in this thread would be ... a questionable distinction at best. But under normal circumstances, targets of mockery can have redeeming qualities to them. The best we can say about the subject here is that he seems to care about his kids -- well, his daughter, at least.
And the subject of the thread shows none of the usual signs of unjust injury. Instead, he has managed to continue unsocial behavior.
For his victims -- remember most of them have kept silent for some time (from various reasons) and not spoken of his treatment of them. This can be psychologically toxic. This thread has given them the opportunity to vent, and it is a necessary process if they're going to "leave him behind." If it seems overblown, it's probably because a lot of the reactions have been suppressed for a long time. And the reactions of those who haven't been directly involved (until insulted here)? Empathy, sympathy, common humanity, righteous indignation in the face of dispicable behavior.
I don't think anyone is going to be carrying this behavior elsewhere with them, nor are they going to inflict it on anyone else. The issues here have a very clear focus, a justified focus.
Short version: yes, this thread is unusual. It will probably always be so. I don't think this is going to carry on elsewhere in the sense of the spewing. But the venting is good, and it is finally freeing certain people to move forward in very positive ways, because of the support found here.
(Okay, I'll shut up now.

As far as the off-color commentary is concerned... it's the Internet. You can't be one hundred percent serious here. And in the downtime between updates on Dickface's defense and the progress of those suing him, it keeps everyone entertained.
Especially when you get guys like Mark Waid and Kurt Busiek in here talking about Duckburg and Stompa.

Nah, Doc's challenge was to find Gail's.
Your bon mots were (if I may be so bold, and with respect) beneath you. Everybody gets caught up in the moment once in a while. The problem is when they begin to revel in it.
JamesRitcheyIII: I've read every page of this thread, God help me. My first post is somewhere in the first five pages. I even defended it when someone came in and said there shouldn't be posts because it's Christmas.
Rick is one of the bad ones, no question. But his actions don't excuse others from responsibility of their actions. It goes back to that 'Clean Hands' doctrine that some of us were talking to Rick about a couple thousand posts back.
Does calling Rick a bunch of names, breaking all kinds of CBR rules (well, I guess it's just the one), do anything to help the process? Really? And what happens the next time a non-mod starts a hate thread, regardless of the just-ness of the hate? Should TPTB excuse it because of Gail's example of acceptable behavior? This isn't the first of these we've seen, you know.
Anyway, enough dross. (Who knew Typo could spell 'dross'?!?)
I don't care what the CBR rules are, never have, never will, and Jonah is fine with this thread, encouraged it, in fact, and I know because I asked him.
Honestly, I don't ban people, but I don't particularly care if they stay or not if they're so wildly unhappy. And this isn't the first of WHAT we've seen?
Rick had his chance many times to have his say when people were BEGGING me to ban him.
He eats this shit up, by the way, people saying, "Aww, poor Rick, being picked on by the mean huge line of people he's cheated." If he was still blogging, this would be up there, guaranteed.
