Okay, I'm told that Rick's father seemingly passed away. Out of the kindness I hope we all have in our hearts, I'd like to ask for a bit of a moratorium on Rick-bashing for a few days. Rick has done nothing to earn compassion from anyone, but I still think a few Rick-free days is a worthwhile effort if only for our own good conscience.

Thank you.

Hey all.
I am very pleased to report that the Syracuse Heroes Expo was a complete and total success.
Attendance was up over 70%.
Mr. Isabella has his own thoughts on the event that he will be sharing soon.
Make no mistake about it folks, that guy rules.

Ethan Van Sciver did free sketches for everyone that visited his booth.
The line lasted all 8 hours of the show.
I was far too busy to get in the lines.
Imagine my surprise when Ethan stopped me and said:
"Here. I did this for you last night."
He gave me a full page, painted Batman piece.
It was of the Dark Knight surrounded by flying bats.
It literally took my breath away.
What a great dude.

Star Wars fans were thrilled with meeting Beru Whitesun and Boba Fett.
They were presented with awards from the Garrison Excelsior of the 501st.

The costume contest was a monster success with top prize going to a 6 year old boy who came dressed as Link from the Zelda video games.
He actually knew how to do all the attack moves and spins and look like an actual video game.

Speaking of gaming, the entire video gaming section of the show floor was packed tight all day.
Tournament winners took home great prizes.
The top prize for Guitar Hero II was this:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q105/needdles/1021071359-00.jpg

Pop Mhan actually penciled and inked a Spider-Man on a Guitar Hero guitar.
Also revealed was Guitar Hero III. Gamers actually got to play this game before it's release and they were loving it!

It did seem like people from all over the galaxy enjoyed it.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q105/needdles/smallerboba.jpg

Fans had a blast and dealers made money.
People found elusive action figures and comics.
I sold a copy of Iron-Man #1, but I treated myself to a copy of Fantastic Four #48 in excellent condition and a Darth Maul sideshow boxed figure.
Pop Mhan also presented me with a gift that he had drawn the night before of everyone's favorite web-slinger.
It was amazing, spectacular, and sensational.

There is a multitude of pics from the show coming and reviews will start popping up.

I'll share them here if nobody objects.

I really believe that this will have been the event that blasts the bad reputation into obscurity.

Dozens of people stopped me to say that one day is not enough and once a year is too little.

All in all, I am not sorry.
In fact, I've already started drafting my plans for 2008.

Thank you for your moral support and to Gail for putting the good word out there.
I am very grateful.

Dennis did show up.

After he bought his ticket, he was followed by 3 men at all times.
I don't know if he was aware of them or not.
But the physical description of his blue plaid shorts went out to security and they reported that he came and went without incident.
That was echoed by my floor manager, Devlin, who stood right by Tony while Dennis was there.

Nobody served Tony anything.
The little red wagon is still intact and filled with over 30 decades of comic book memories.

Nothing to report on that front.

This year's Mid-Ohio-Con will again feature the big fun of our

SUPERHERO TRIVIA CHALLENGE

in which contestants will assume super-heroic identities and do battle on the field of trivia.

I'm going to be approaching various publishers of superhero comics for prizes and questions, but I'm throwing open the process to anyone who wants to help me with questions. You will be mentioned at the event and in my columns.

Questions should involve both classic superhero characters and up-to-the-minute modern superhero characters.

Last year, we had way too many obscure and "old fart" questions. I'd like to give younger contestants a fighting chance.

TV superheroes are acceptable. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Bionic Woman, we consider them superheroes. If a character wears a costume or possesses super powers, that qualified them.

The same guidelines apply to movie and literary superheroes.

Multiple-choice questions are okay by me.

DO NOT POST YOUR QUESTIONS ON PUBLIC FORUMS!

Send your questions and their answers to me at:

tony@wfcomics.com

Please put SUPERHERO TRIVIA CHALLENGE in the header.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Surely, sir, you're not suggesting the Rickster failed to make due on his promises. My GAWD! That's like the first sign of not a damn thing being different at all from his normal behavior.

Place your bets now: I got two bucks says that some time in the next two weeks, Rick will pop up somewhere and claim that his father's death is the only reason Tony didn't get served with legal papers at the Syracuse convention.

He will of course ignore the federal law (http://www.law.cornell.edu/rules/frcp/Rule4.htm) specifying that papers must be served by someone who is not a party to the suit. This means he would have had to arrange with a process server or court official (marshal, sheriff, bailiff, etc) days or weeks before the day his father passed.

Just wanted to get it on the record as a preemptive strike, since we all know that bereavement is Olney's favorite excuse for whatever criminal act needs one.

Hey Rev, how have you been yourself???I'm not too bad. I'm trying to get some medical tests done to confirm a few things definitively (I'm wanting to see if my temperature regulation issues are due to low thyroid; if it is, and I can get the right supplementation, I might be able to start sweating again and this heatstroking in anything over 75 degrees nonsense might stop). We were without power for about 30 hours (we got battery-operated fans, god bless technology), but hopefully that's over now and the fires won't come this way.

I may be getting work at a major indie label, the main editor seemed very positive and is sending my portfolio around to other folks, just depends on whether there's projects that need a colorist. No guarantees of anything, so no idea if it'll follow through.

And it's so good to see folks at cons and whatnot looking out for each other. I was happy to see how they didn't dare mess with Mr. Isabella, and how well he was treated.

How're things with you?

As per the kindly Gail's request to respect the Olney family mourning the loss of Olney's father, and in light of my crazy busy schedule, I won't be posting Olney warnings until after Mid-Ohio-Con.

This is, of course, dependent on Olney keeping his mouth shut and not trying to scam any new fans, retailers, creators, or charities.

If I get any word of his doing this, all bets are off.

Back to work on the Mid-Ohio-Con panel program. It's going to be even better than last year's schedule.

Paul... You know I love your arrtwork. I believe I may have intimated that I found "Leave it to Chance" adequately entertaining. (Like one of my favorite series' EVER, entertaining), loved your X-Men, et cetera, ad-fannish-nauseam...

But your YABS avatar trips me up EVERY TIME.

I mean, when I LOOK at it, I love the skull, and the pencil and all...

But if you're REALLY nearsighted and nonetheless have your monitor set to fairly high resolution to fit all of those Photoshop (Freehand, InDesign, etc.) palettes in (thank heavens for OS X's zoom function!) and catch it out of the corner of your eye, your first thought - no matter how many frickin' times you see it - is: "Why is that rabbit so worried and why is it wearing a hard hat?"

Well before we go back on the 'Rick is so scummy (how scummy is he?)' joke wagon, I wanted to share a few things with my fellow yabsers!

First and foremost, my erstwhile artmonkey, and dark overlord of the netherworld, James Ritchey, III is about to release the LONG in development Green Lama book. (people that have known me for awhile know that as far back as 2004 our studio was working with AC Comics to produce this public domain icon, and due to the interception of Rick it almost never happened)

BUT as of next week you can order the first issue from the AC website, I know I'm going to.

Written and drawn by James Ritchey, III -- A mini series that was litterally YEARS in the making.

Secondly, I had a BLAST at the ghost walk my pumpkins were a huge hit, as were my house decorations. These are the last few I did before giving up the ghost and letting sleeping dogs lie.

I've been asked to drag this thread back on-topic and reiterate a few points...

1. The money raised by the auctions and other donations will NOT be spent on the UNSCREWED anthology comic. The people involved in that project have committed themselves to that point, and it is not open to discussion. At least one editor of the book has stated that he/she will resign and publicly repudiate the entire organization if that decision is reversed.

2. The money raised by the auctions and such is intended for and will go to people who have been ripped off by Rick Olney and TightLip/MMC/ORCA. Due to the massive amount of money that Olney owes people, we've had to put a cap on the amount we can give to any one person for now. It's intended to help with emergency needs, not to bail Rick out.

3. If you got burned by Olney and are in need of the money, please contact anyone from UNSCREWED and let us know and we will do the best we can to assist you.

4. Olney is not the only publisher screwing people, and we do not intend to limit ourselves to redressing his wrongs. If you were screwed over by another publisher, please contact us and tell us the details. We can help you file suit, we can call and try to negotiate with the publisher, we can try to publicly embarrass them into doing right, and we can provide you with some money if you need it. But we aren't psychic. We can't know your needs unless you tell us.

5. There's still a lot of work to do, and if you have time, come over and help us. Part of that work is telling us what needs to be done. We might very well be overlooking something vital. We're all new at this and making it up as we go along.

Thank you for your support.

Speaking of little people... I ran my wife to the ER last weekend (okay, we took the car; I'm not Fred Flintstone) because of abdominal pains and weird bladder behavior... and the nurses there cut a little human being out of her womb! Most people have nine months to adjust to the idea of becoming parents -- we had about 14 hours (13 of labor, 1 of emergency c-section.)

Sorry to break up the pun war, but you didn't want me involved. I'm an incorrigible punster who needs no incorrigement. ;)

How premie was s/he? (I'm making a major assumption, here, I realize...) I had some friends whose daughter decided that she wanted out *NOW!* and then took some number of weeks in an incubator to finish the job more or less on her own. Hey all,

Thanks for the well wishes, and let me assure you that -- other than the normal pain of a c-section and the excessively spitting-up on baby Galvin's part -- both mother and baby are fine.

We went to the hospital not knowing what was wrong with mom. They took the test there and said she was pregnant, and our first thought was that we were in early trimesters and miscarrying.

But no -- she was full term: 7 pounds, 4 ounces. No discernible symptoms (by discernible, I mean that it's hard to notice something being skipped in a cycle that hasn't been there regularly for the past six years), and her clothes had actually been getting *baggier* and we were shopping smaller sizes.

Not that it wasn't touch and go in the delivery room. I nearly lost both of them when they decided it was time for the emergency c-section (but the doctors didn't tell us that until eleven days later, when everyone was rested and coherent.)

Meanwhile, I'm working from home and taking FMLA for the next few weeks (a two story house is hard on a post-op mom!) And I'll be buying a lot more all-ages comic books in the near future. :)

Well, unfortunately, there are no grandparents on either side. But friends -- all of whom had seen us recently, and also didn't notice anything to make them say, "So, when are you due?" -- were stupefied. I told them I took mom to the hospital and they were going to let us take a baby home, and they were like, "You're adopting?" They've been great, though. We didn't have anything ready (and why would we?) and within two weeks we've got a house full of onesies, wipes, diapers, jammies, stuffed things, nipples, bottles and formula.

...So I'm guessing that SHE picked the name out...? Or did you suggest it before realizing that motherhood had driven her sense of humor out?

It tends to do that, you know. When She Who Must Be Obeyed was pregnant with ours, we were doing the whole name-picking thing. Now, my last name, Moyle, sounds like the word for the person who performs the Jewish ritual circumcision. (It was a Jewish friend's mother who nicknamed me "The Yankee Clipper", and my nym here is a takeoff of that, but I digress...) So we were trying different combinations to get something that flowed properly and I suggested that if the munchkin was a boy, then "Nicholas Richard" had the right rhythm and provided a sufficiency of nicknames and naming styles that he could use as he grew older.

She agreed that it worked well, then thought again and got THAT look. "You are NOT naming my child Nick Dick Moyle!"

Fortunately, The Spawn turned out to be another She Who Must et cetera, so the issue never came up again.

Galvin was her father's middle name -- which was his mother's maiden name. A long line of Galvin's back to County Claire in Ireland.

And she won't let me name any children. She's seen what I've done with cats. (Persephone, Antigone, Calliope... and our current Persian longhair, Shahrazad.) Although I almost had her convinced that Electra would be a pretty Greek name (cuz I wanted a daddy's girl if we'd ever had a she) but then she figured it was a name that would end up on a marquee outside a place that specialized in pole dancing, so that was out.

I've always been told that you never ask a woman if she is pregnant or her age.

EVER.

If you ask a woman "when are you due" and she's not pregnant, there can be....

...
...

Consequences.

I watched an episode of Just Shoot Me awhile back and Spade was sitting beside this large sized woman in an office. So he looks over and asks "So have you found out what your having ?"

She looked at him ...and next thing we saw was Finch (Spade being shown tossed across the room. From an angle of him yelling.

Well, we ended up with a Guinevere, so neither of US are exactly normal. (Lots of Heathers and Jasmines in 1980; not many Guineveres.)

RJ, I saw this and I've been meaning to comment for a while. I'm sorry you had to go through this. But just remember, Se non uccide fortifica, what doesn't kill you fortifies you. We all have to go through the refining fires of life in order to be perfected, and moments of difficulty is where we find out who we really are. I'll say a prayer to St.Luke (Saint of Doctors) and St.Rita (Saint of healing wounds). At least your wife is okay and now you have two more loved ones.

Sadly, in most cases, tragedy befalls and engulfs those whom the fates have deemed unlucky. God be with them, and with you.

To cheer you up: Just Another by Pete Yorn. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCKN29_GfIE)

It's one of my favourite songs. It's about how no matter what you go through, you're still the same person at heart. It was written for a famous person, but it can apply to a normal woman as well. Or in your case, someone with Olympian like inner strength ; worthy of a super hero. : )

My daughter is Brooke, because it was a nice name that we could both agree on, but her middle name is Elizabeth, as it's a wife's family tradition thats been carried on for generations. It was actually easy to accept that, 'cause it gave me leeway for when the boy arrived three years later.

He's Ashley James (Ash "groooooovy!" for short, although being born the year the pokemon craze began confuses people, especially with Ash being a little pokemaniac himself, and James for my Dad).

I really, really wanted to work Grimlock or Sideswipe in there somewhere, but that brought on all sorts of threats to various parts of my personage, so I exercised the better part of valour and retreated on that one.

Well of course not, Tony.

Because Joseph Jerome Isabella flows better than Jerome Joseph Isabella . You can't put two strong syllables together like that.

(Now, "Jerome Josephus" moves the stress one syllable to the right to soften it a bit... But I suspect that the missus wouldn't have gone for that one, either! :) )

You say that and then leave us dangling?

What, pray tell, was your father's name?

Or was it just the prospect of being "Junior"?

Me... There are Sarahs on both sides of my family tree, but most recently my mother's paternal grandmother (I think), and my middle name, Lucy, for my great-aunt (my dad's aunt).

If I had kids.... I'd probably want to go with Celtic/Gaelic forms of names. I always liked Catriona, for instance.

Thanks, Wil! I've been fascinated with the Green Lama since I was a kid, and saw him on the cover of Steranko's History of Comics. I've just completed a long, rambling diatribe of an editorial for the first issue, describing my direction with the 'reincarnation/reboot', and what I'm calling the 'AC/Spark Universe', which owes as much to Madame Blavatsky, Joseph Campbell and PKD as it does to GL creator Kendall Foster Crossen. They're printing the first issue--like--NOW! There will be a limited run coming out this week, and then it's in Previews for March 5th--announced last week.

I've generally felt the need to stay away from this thread, as I'm not a vengeful or spiteful person--I generally 'blow up', and it's over. I mean, I'll warn anybody about Olney that I can, forever, but I'm not good at malignant anger--all that this was really stirring up in me after a while was negativity. Some here know what Olney did to me, with the Green Lama--specifically, and how he's the main cause of it being delayed for so long. All I can say is: SUCK ON THIS, OLNEY.

Wow, James...can you give us the short version of what Rick did that delayed the book? I'm curious now!

Well, kinda short version, that I described around Jan./Feb.. Around October 2005, Bill Black was having doubts about putting this out. I'd just come down with what I was to find out later was a more severe form of MS (which I've likely always had), and the last eight pages of pencils had literally taken me 4 months, and the inker was being both 'inconsistent (I averaged four hours a page fixing things to tolerability)' and delaying me even more. I've never missed a deadline while being paid, and Bill kept saying "Take your time", but it is all 'Spec (until the new cover I did two weeks ago)'. This is all besides the fact that my stuff is more 'Miller/Moore/Morrison', 'Thriller-ish' and more character-driven than what Bill normally puts out. Not that he didn't love the script--he just didn't think of it as a comics script, in the framework he's used to.

Anyway, I mentioned this offhand at MMC, and Rick pipes up "I'll publish it." I was beginning to sour on the idea that Olney was in any way competent, smart or sane after a few months of arguing with the man, so I sent him a long, private immediate email saying, essentially and politely--"No, You won't--and don't bring it up, again.". I'll shorten the rest--Rick proceeds to spend a month, behind my back, on several other forums--telling Femforce and Golden Age fans that he's gonna publish it. I was warned by pals in Th' GA community that he was pulling this shit--too late. If anyone thinks I've been crude towards Rick, here, all I can say is that I WISH I'd saved that last PM I sent him.
This got back to AC, and I came off as some sort of louse. I cleared it up, but Bill basically put a hold on things, he said, mainly due to sales. Bill has apparently had problems with Olney since, which might have alleviated any lingering doubt about my bein' duplicitous.

I found myself dwelling too much on the past and not letting go of anger--as a result, not focusing positively on the future, and being constructive about what I really wanna do--write and draw comic books. If I had a nickel fer every louse who's screwed me over or robbed me, I'd be in the Fortune 500, and competing with Marvel AND New Line Cinema--and if I'd just gotten to work after being screwed by someone, instead of giving up out of pure anguish, I'd be a little farther along, career-wise. My bad habit--not this thread's.

In January I sent out a survey via myspace asking one simple question with no preface.

"What do you know about Rick Olney?"

I received dozens of replies. Some humorous, some downright scary.

Here's one I finally received permission to re-post. This happened back in the Summer of 2003.
No money owed but... In 2003 I wrote reviews and did interviews for Slushfactory.com and site owner Brian Jacks. Rick Olney tried recruiting me to write for him, even going so far as to offer me money to do so. At the time I was both happy at Slushfactory and doing my own thang building a website, so I had no interest in working for Olney. I had no idea that had I he'd never have paid. So, he started posting at
Slushfactory's forums that Brian Jacks, whom he called Jack because he
apparently does not understand the difference between first and last
names, must eat watermelon because he is black and shit like that. Brian
warned him.

Then Rick Olney sent me a number of private messages, that
Brian read (as site administator) that seemed to show that Olney had hired
me and that I was leaving Slush. All not the least bit true. Olney then
was banned for another forum indiscretion and then turned to writing me
dozens of letters how the he thinks Jack was wrong, and that Olney is a
pariah undeservedly. Then when there was a lull in my activity at
Slushfactory (then afterwards UGO.com) because I was working on a number
of long term works and posting articles at two sites Brian let me go
saying Slush was moving on and that I could work for Olney. He likely did
not believe it since it never thereafter happened but Olney poisoned that
well.

When I started my site Olney wrote me asking me what was going on and
why did I not get his permission to start my own site and why didn't I
tell him before hand... then began posting politically charged posts at
my forums which all ended up being deleted, and him being
banned.

Olney is likely bipolar and needs help. But it won't come from me.

I did read the thread but I try not to post in too many places, and least
of all in a thread involving Olney since he still, likely knows my email
address.Wowza, I know I'm totally late to this game (I stumbled onto this thread through google), but holy cow, I had no idea I was part of such drama! I have absolutely no memory of any of this. The name Rick Olney doesn't even ring a bell for me. Would love to know who wrote the above though, cause it's all a big blank for me. Comicwebsite warz circa '03 sounds like quite the battlefield!

Wow.

That sounds like classic Olney, with that need to insert himself where he isn't wanted, then lashing out when people destroy the illusion.

Thanks for posting it, and also, I hope the book is a big success!

Gail

Thanks, Gail! I'm hopeful that maybe someone will read it, and realize I can tell good stories. The art on the second issue will be much prettier--Former Marvel embellisher Mark Stegbauer is inking.

While I knew that he was bugnuts--I hadn't seen anything like an NDA, and actually offered him either Dark Vs. Light, or Team Defiant!, two of my original properties instead (DvL actually has a similar but potentially more marketable horror/fantasy premise than GL--and I've been through four low-end publisher wannabes on that one)--these are my real 'children', to quote Brian Wilson about his songs--but he was monomaniacal. Looking back, his obvious madness did me a HUGE favor, and I never signed anything.

As far as that 'lashing out' goes--when I pointed out what a completely underhanded psycho he was being by doing this 'web-blitz', VERY impolitely, his simple, immediate reaction was "I will sue you into the poorhouse, if you ever discuss anything said here with anyone.". Still remember that, verbatim.

I warned everybody I talked to who was thinking about working with him, before I heard any of the shit I've read here. I'd dealt with total, ego-wanking, broke-ass publisher wannabes a dozen times, but I knew he would end up the worst.

Hey--only those who live in a constant state of self-doubt are perfectionists!

One thing with the ad...it's 'remember who you really are', btw, not 'remember who you really were'. He wasn't The Green Lama--he was, is and always will be The Green Lama. No matter what face he has, he's always The Green Man. Both you and Loki have gotten that wrong, in different ways. :P

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone, you artistically influential son of a gun!

So what is going on with those properties (DvL and TD!)??

All of my 'Conspiracyverse' characters need a centralized home, and I've just been waiting for a place where I could do Dreadnaut (Space Ghost -meets-X-Files), and those two (the latter a Team--obviously) in an 'imprint, and one new and flexible enough to handle an 'Early Marvel-meets-David Lynch' type environment, even odder than the Spark Universe/GL ideas. I have half a dozen friends who would help tackle my characters, if I just had a go-ahead, and HOPE for money. Wishful thinking, maybe. I shopped TD! to Dark Horse and Oni in 2003, the first issue, Zombie Nazis From Outer Space, but it was too--i don't even know, for Dark Horse, and not cartoony enough for Oni. Shame--with Chad Porter doing his best, straight 'Early Roy Thomas Avengers' writing over my twisted plot and pencils and my very EC Comics-inspired friend Dave Newton on inks, I thought it would have some sort of 'cult' draw. I mean, c'mon! Undead Nazis--with Jetpacks--??? It's gathering dust, as I thought Chad might try to shop it, and I'm really not good at taking capricious criticism.

Why do ALL these comics fans come to my artists' alley table, hear these ideas, see the art, and ask "When will this be out? I must have it!", while I can't get arrested by mainstream editors, who say "It'll never sell."--? Whinwhinewhine...

DvL and Dreadnaut are all me. DvL could be the next Crow-meets-Sandman, commercially, and it's a shared delusion, among those who have heard the entire premise--or read my rather involved series synopsis, which makes Grant Morrison seem like someone on medication. Mark Stegbauer, before Lama came up, was going to start a web-strip of DvL with me, but it's postponed so we can work on the second issue of GL together. There's a first issue of DvL done, but I want to start over. Bob Burden owns the original art for the only sixteen pager of Dreadnaut, solo, and few other stories and completed artworks featuring these characters were stolen after another friend who was storing them for me died from Diabetes-related problems, and his family swooped in on his stuff--probably thrown away, but I'd start it all over anyway--there were some good premises and plots there.

That's pretty much it--on hold, until I can get some notice, and some clout.

I see no conflict or irony--he's 'preaching to the Choir'--of 10% of those who would read such a page. What Far-Right-Wing, 'Christian' Male (like Olney) doesn't want to be able to kill someone with their penis--since we all know Conservative Republicans have vestigially tiny genitalia--resulting in the abject terror of any mention of sex, and the promotion of violence to solve every problem? :D

I talked to Richard Sullivan this weekend at Mid-Ohio con. He was an old associate of Olney who realized the what a scum Rick was and parted ways.

Richard related this great story:

You guys remember that Freedom 3 cover of Osama Bin Laden being punched out? Rick sent that to Bill O'Reilly and totally expected it to get him a spot on the O'Reilly Factor.

He kepts calling Richard and wondering why O'Reilly's people hadn't contacted him yet. Keep in mind that they didn't send a comic or even have a comic to go with the cover.

Typical Rick. No, don't actually make a comic and try to promote it based on merit. No, instead try to use what he considered sensationlism to get himself on television with nothing more than vapor to present.

Oh, good grief! It's one thing to do that kind of vapor-ware pimping on the internet, where I think a lot of people take such announcements with a grain of salt. But to try and do it for broadcast, with no actual book in hand to follow up the cover hype?

Revelations like this regarding the paramecium still manage to boggle me.

Of all the writings of Rick that we've pulled apart, I don't recall ever delving into the credit-and-copyright notice at the bottom of www.orcafresh.com

(c) 1993-2007 Rick Olney and Organized Readers of Comics Association. All Rights Reserved. No artwork shall be removed from this website without prior written permission of Rick Olney. All characters are (TM) trademark and (c) copyright their respective owner(s). No copyright infringement is intended or should be inferred.
Love two bits of it:

No artwork shall be removed from this site - who is going to remove artwork from the site? Who can? That's more a command for him. I think he's trying to say "no hotlinking", but the wording is awkward at best (and is unique to his site, judging by Google).
No copyright infringement is intended or should be inferred. - Y'see, copyright violation is not a thing of intent and inference, really. It's an action. It's a copyright violation even if its not intended to violate that law, and one does not need to infer it so much as recognize it. This bit of nonsense shows up on a few fanfic sites.

And, regarding that old list of guests — only an idiot would have made that tremendous leap in mixing up guests clearly identified (and now removed) from the 2006 convention canceled due to three deaths in my immediate family.

Only Rick can write a sentence like that.

So here we are nine months later...that's a mighty big corner!!!

Well, I'm still strokin'. :o

This one is good.

''RO: Well, my involvements within the comic book entertainment industry have been multi-diversified. ''

Diversifed = more than one.
So multi-diversified = .....more than one

Fun drinking game: Have a shot every time Rick's subconscious makes him mention masturbation or gay sex without him realizing it.

We will be 'going after him' until the day we see some green. (so much time is involved, and things move slowly.)

Has anyone heard anything out of him? Not even a peep?

Unfortunately, I think the only green you'll see from him is probably fungus.....

Are you people really going to let this thread die just before it reaches its first anniversary?

You know, if the thread dies down, I'm fine with it.

A ton of good things (and a few over-the-top embarrassments) came out of it, and above all, Rick Olney has been exposed for the cheating, lying, worthless deadbeat he is. I haven't been to a con this year, anywhere in the world, where he wasn't the butt of jokes from pros and readers alike.

No, it's unlikely he will ever be a man and pay the people he owes. But that was never going to happen anyway. The man is a serial deadbeat. He doesn't mind cheating people. He's fine with it. We were never going to shame him into paying anyone.

But at the very least, he's done in comics, and his own words and actions doomed him. He will never produce a comic, never cheat another vendor or creator, never abuse the good names of charities. He will never run another fake, shitty convention. He will never start another empty comics club.

He's done.

That's the second best possibly outcome, after him actually behaving like a man and paying the people owed.

So if it fades, I'm fine with it. It's been a lot of fun, and sometimes frustration, but in the end, there's one less pathological cheat out there abusing people in the industry.

And that's good.

My point wasn't really that the thread should go on forever, just that it's been going SO long, it would be a shame for it to disappear into obscurity before it reaches the year mark. I mean, seriously, how many forum threads on the internet have continued, virtually without interruption, for one full year reaching over 2600 pages? It's quite an accomplishment, even if the subject at hand is a total scumbag. It's amazing the good that has come out of this thread.

However, I would have to say that Rick Olney is more than a "serial deadbeat". The man is a CRIMINAL who has yet to pay for his crimes. And I'm not talking "pay" in the monetary sense. After the charity fraud, lying, stealing, and out-and-out harassment that many of the members here have had to deal with, it amazes me that he still walks free, or that the DOZENS of people cheated by him haven't yet taken him to court (or maybe they have and that information has [rightfully] been kept out of this thread).

This isn't to say a ginormous internet thread is going to bring him to justice, but it's nice having it here to follow the attempts to bring him to justice. This coming from nothing more than an outside observer who has been following your trials and tribulations this past year and wants this guy put in his place.

Wow - time flies. I remember this going off on the dixonverse board this time last year.

Oh, I agree. I think there's still a very good chance he might see jail time, and I definitely hope people continue to legally sieze monies they are owed.

I just feel that his own destruction of everything he's been using to cheat people with is a good thing.

...You mean by running around the prison yard to keep away from that guy that keeps calling him "Poopsie"?
