Has anyone else seen this beautiful, beautiful concert film? It concentrates purely on his folkey/ country side and it gives the whole movie a charming, inviting and simply unbelievably warm feel that it's hard to believe that anyone who is even slightly open to very rootsy music won't come out loving it. He plays through the whole of Prairie Wind and though it could be argued that much of the material from that album is a tad too saccharine, his delivery here is so heartfelt that it drew me in completely. And of course he drags out some other older material that fits with the mood of the set and more than does those songs justice too.
As for the musicianship, though I may not know any of his HUGE backing band aside for the always wonderful Emmylou Harris, the sheer musical talent on that stage is intimidating. Special attention must go to the pedal-steel guitar player who was, very simply, jaw-droppingly amazing.
Mark Kermode, a film critic for the BBC, mentioned in his podcast (which can be found here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/entertainment/kermode.shtml)and is well worth a listen) that he flat out hated Neil Young's music until this movie single-handedly converted him. If that's not high praise for the film, I don't know what is.
To all Neil Young fans especially, check this movie out!
