It's a very sleek, Web 2.0 site. I love the AJAX stuff and the design. I wish more comic sites put this much effort and thought into their design.

It's mostly useless to me, but for those who like this kind of stuff, it'll be Wiki-like nirvana.

Murray - it's a, uhm, sorta Wikipedia for comics characters of a specific non-specific universe type with descriptions and friendships and links back and forth and -- er -- yeah, I don't know either, but it looks cool.

Sadly, Marvel got the jump on them as far as comics Wikis go.

Yeah, Marvel's website is awesome. I think most of what I'd use it for is Marvel info and they've got 90% of it already on their site. Plus the Handbooks are so friggin' cool.

Ah, ok, I get it. I've never used Marvel's website but I'll have to check it out. The only online resource I routinely use is the Grand Comics Database http://www.comics.org b/c it's mighty handy for the "Who the heck wrote/drew that?" questions that I can't remember!

Thanks for the comments. I actually built comicvine.com along with a buddy of mine. Obviously we're brand new so we're still building things out, but the point is to be an easy to add to encyclopedia for comic lovers. We decided to build our own custom-built software instead of going with a generic wiki (like Marvel uses) because we wanted something that was made specifically for comics. It also lets us do some fun ajax and "web 2.0" stuff where we want to.

In any case, please let us know how we're doing. We're not exactly Marvel, it's just two dudes, but we've been adding to the site every day since it's been launched. There's already been over 2000 submissions to the database in just over a week.

So last Wednesday I met up with 4 other guys through ComicSpace.com on Wednesday to just talk comics at a bar in Central Square which is in Cambridge, MA. Pretty cool! We had a few pints and just shot the $hit for a while. I think it's going on every week, but I'll only go when I hit the shop on Wednesdays, and I don't go every week.

I'll post a "Bulletin" on this when I can, but I wanted to share w/ you guys. :D

I have to admit...

I very much like the comicvine.com site. It has a lot of potential and has a very slick interface. (Web 2.0 seems to describe it well)

Just thought I would drop my site in the mix:

We have been around for 2 years (even longer than Marvel.com's wiki). Thousands of users and hundreds of thousands of edits later, we maintain the largest database of comic character info in existance; Much surpassing any other site.
(Even Marvel.com and Comicvine.com combined)

Check it out... Wiki isn't that complicated to navigate, I promise. :D
