View Full Version : It's 'Disassembled', NOT 'Dissembled'...

Like the X-Men's 'Rogue'/'Rouge', it seems we have our own common misspellings, misnomers, and misunderstandings.

What are some you've noticed?

WARNING: And by misnomers and misunderstandings I mean things posters misunderstand about characters or plots. Not creators.

THANK YOU!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, THANK YOU!!!

Oh, and since I'm in this thread: Phoenix/Pheonix. A whole lot of people are probably going to say: "You hypocrite. You spelled it wrong in your username!" Yup, that's intentional. Don't ask me why, it just is. ;)

i noticed that a lot of comic book professionals misuse the word 'lie.' ex. "the fault lie in the blah blah yakkety smackety."

What about people who don't know the difference between "effect" and "affect" or use "could of" instead of "could have." Yeesh...

How about "further" and "farther"....
"Than"....and "then"....

I fear that someday the English language is going to surrender to the masses and allow "rouge" as an alternate spelling of "rogue."

I think the make-up industry might stop that.

They hold all the power.

I hate people who think they have a good 'arguement' in saying that 'Apocolypse' is a great character. The same people are usually 'Pheonix' fanboys, as well. These people have probably never heard of 'Galactis', either.

There/Their/They're seems to be a tough concept too.
The world is full of bad spellers but as much as I wanna bitch slap someone for it, we all have faults. :(

I would like someone... just once... to figure out that the magical JLA girl in the fishnets is Zatanna.

Not ZANtanna, who's presumably a magical guitar-playing Latino.

Good point, but Iron Man's one of the non-hyphenated ones. :)

Anyone else have any more specific to the Avengers?

Well, "should of" instead of "should've" springs to mind.

This is more for the Ultimates board, but I keep getting confused, thinking the A stands for France, and calling him Captain France.

There's a bunch of Dr. Strange characters I guess, but no one ever really discusses them. Especially not on the Avengers board. Dormammu doesn't usually get all up in their faces.

Really, the Avengers' names, and the names of their related characters, are pretty easy to spell, for the most part. Except maybe the Wasp, but no one ever bothers to spell out the full name of Janet Van Dyne.

I have the feeling people would misspell Gilgamesh if anybody ever felt the need to mention the loser.

Speaking of, I do see Triathlon/Triathalon quite a bit.

In "X-Men", Gambit's "Sacre Bleu" is extremely irritating since it's not a misunderstanding but rather an official misspelling. The correct spelling is "sacrebleu" (and nobody used that word since the 19th century, really).

Star Wars fans tend to write "Emporer" instead of "Emperor" and "Annikin" or "Anikan" instead of "Anakin". I'd have guessed that if you were a fan, you'd know how to spell these things, but apparently not.

And besides these, the most irritating error for me is "I could care less". I mean, could you? Could you really?

I used to pronounce Galactus as Galacticus for no special reason.
