About The Lost Room
In the 1960s, there still were hundreds of motels with thousands of rooms along Route 66 as it twisted its way from Chicago to L.A. and back. None of them stood out from the rest until one day when some unknown event at the Sunshine Motel transformed ordinary things into items of wonder.
Room 10 of the Sunshine Motel and many of its mundane contents — a pair of scissors, a comb and so on — gained unique and inexplicable properties on that day, transforming them from ordinary objects into indestructible Objects.
The Scissors can turn and rotate any item in three dimensions. The Comb stops time for 10 seconds when you run it through your hair. The Eyeglasses inhibit all combustion in a 20-foot radius. The Room itself is an unchanging haven and a portal to any destination. But it can also take that which you value more than your own life.
To possess an Object is to possess its power.
Using each Object exacts a physical, emotional or psychological cost from the owner. Just holding one makes you a target for murder.
For decades, maybe since the first moment that the Motel Room was ripped from this reality, cabals have formed to collect all the Objects. As always, some just want unlimited power, and they believe getting all of the Objects will give them that. Others want to prevent anyone from ever again using the Objects.
And though their motives vary, the cabals' tactics are similar. It's said that while you have one of the Objects, you have no friends, only people waiting for an opening.
Police Det. Joe Miller was introduced to the Motel Room when a fatally shot young man gave him one of the most powerful and coveted Objects of them all: the Key to the Motel Room. His life is immediately turned upside down when his young daughter becomes lost in the room. In his relentless quest to rescue his little girl, Joe becomes the target of shadowy figures who will stop at nothing to take from him his only hope of saving her — the Key.
whoa. have yall seen the cast for this? peter krause (dude from six feet under), juliana marguiles (girl from ER), kevin pollak (usual suspects), and ewen bremner (spud from trainspotting) all in a mini-series? pretty cool.
not usually into this genre but I am definitely going to check it out.

I was reading the latest Futurama comic when I had the channel on Sci-Fi (for the Heroes marathon). I just got done reading about the effects of going through the scary door when the promo for this came up.
I had the giggles for three minutes.

It sounds interesting, and Krause is a major talent. I've been a fan of his, since he was under-used in the Alan Ball written sit-com from hell, Sybill. Then, when he went onto Sports Night, he had a chance to really shine. His film work is quite strong, as well.

Did anyone else watch this?
I really enjoyed this show. With shows like these, SciFi is really starting to put out enjoyable programs.
Personally I was just as interested in what the other objects do as the actual program. I'd like to see what the clock does, but I guess that's for tomorrow.

Ya, I saw it too and liked it alot. Sci Fi, for the most part, has excellent mini-series. Can't wait to see more of this tonight!!

" Also looking forward to the Dresden Files, which looks good! And more BSG, Eureka, and here's hoping that Painkiller Jane, Tin Man, and Flash Gordon are good too! "

Anyone else watching this???
I really enjoyed the show. Some things seemed a little contrived, but the ending was great.

I wouldn't worry too much. Knowing the SciFi Channel, there'll be a marathon of the mini-series pretty soon.

Saturday starting at 5pm I believe (showing all the episodes).
I would like to see this develop into a full series, especially since it seems to have been designed that way. I am glad that they gave the mini-series a conclusion.
Actually I would love to see a game based of this series (a board game or a tabletop RPG or something) it just seems so set up for it.

Yeah, but they left it open for quite a few other stories to be told. Like you, I hope SciFi returns with a series or another mini.

From the very beginning I've been thinking this would make a great Dark Matter game setting. I don't even play it, but I'd by the sourcebook.

Well, indestructibility is just a side effect of being an object. We really have yet to see what his power is beside being able to talk to objects. Also, the Prophet can't do anything to the Occupant since he can control any object (unless there is something special about him).
I'm actually interested with what the whole Prophet thing means (it seems like something that group already knew about). I'd also love to see the Bus Ticket guy and even Weasel.
As for the Pawnbroker, my best guess is he's trapped like the woman was. Who knows what happens to the eye, but my guess is its something similar to what happened to the Key.
EDIT: Plus I'd love to know what actually happened to create the objects. Plus all the other stuff.
This plus the Dresden Files (plus Eureka) really seems to have turned SciFi into a decent network. Now if only they fix the rest of their programing schedule.

yea but isnt the main charcter the Living object now. Thus indestrutible
didn't know the occupant could control object now. That pretty interesting

I liked it, but I would've liked it better with a little more in the way of resolution beyond the whole daughter thing.
If it's the prelude to an ongoing series, fine. But as a discrete entity . . . the nearly complete lack of answers to the "big" questions disappointed me.

Oh I figured out what happened. Got the clue when they explained how the occupant was a guy with no past who accosted a nice small town old maid librarian saying how she was his wife.
This is what happens when Clarence the Guardian Angel screws up! ;)
Just waiting to see what zuzu's petals do.

Actually I was wrong, it's airing on Sunday in its entirety.
I read an interview on the SciFi sight and it seems that a continuation will depend on how well this does (so it seems likely).

When do the repeats come on? I was looking to catch this. I'll record all repeats. I'm a Juliana Marguiles mark.

SCIFI CHANNEL is running the entire mini-series straight through on SUNDAY.
It was AWESOME. First BSG, then Eureka! Then Screw-On Head. Now this.
Scifi has finally redeemed itself for dumping Farscape!
Bring on the Dresden Files!!!

Since BSG, a lot of the programs that SciFi has been producing have been top notch.
I truly hope that the Lost Room gets picked up as a series. Very entertaining.
I'm also looking forward to the Dresden Files.

and attracting bigger talents. I thought the Lost Room was everything I hoped and Im glad they are going to be re-airing the series. It's important they make their offerings available a second and third (and fourth and fifth time around).
also looking forward to dresden files -- looks like a good balance of dick tracy meets merlin or something.

Last evening I have seen the first 3 episodes. Aaaah, it's a really good surprize !
I knew that perhaps I would be interested in this serie (I like very much this kind of stuff like Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, etc...), but sometimes I am disappointed and worried, in the modern fantasy/SF tv series, by decompression, too much long series to get more money, and bad scriptings, etc...
But with Lost Room, I have a little hope again in the modern way...
I can't wait for the next saturday evening (3 episodes each saturday, for 2 weeks, in my country) for the 3 last !
I don't understand why there is not a lot buzz about this serie... It's nevertheless very good, with quite a lot of new developments, suspens... Big potential imho...
This serie hadn't get enough sucess in Usa to have a second saison ? What a pity... :(
Ah, a thing, few months, I have seen the first saison of the Twilight Zone color (1984), and in the second part of the #9, episode Wong's Lost and Found Emporium, there is almost a similar scene with Lost Room : a guy is searching the mysterious shop and when he opens a door, he sees a different place, a beach...
BV72, who is going to take care now when he will use his comb and his keys... :D

I hated this show. Hated it. At first it was interesting, but I ended up hating it.
It was filled with all of this mystery, except whenever the plot needed to advance they were able to pull perfect understanding of something out of nowhere. The ending was the worst example of this.
Hero: Hey Occupant. Can you tell me anything about anything at all?
Occupant: No. It's all terribly mysterious.
Hero: So, can I get my daughter back?
Occupant: Sure. If you kill me.
Hero: What? How does that follow?? And how do you know that since apparently you don't know anything more than I do?!?
Occupant: It just does, ok? Sheesh.
Also, if all it takes to get the objects is to go to the laundramat and pay the lady, why haven't either of the organizations managed to get more?

I didn't hate the series, but I really agree with Booster here.
They had a concept that really could've been something extraordinary, but it really lost a LOT in execution. The ending was big on 'closure' while being weak on 'resolution'.
It reminded me in places of some of the works of Sci-Fi novelist Tim Powers, especially novels like 'Last Call', 'Expiration Date' and 'Declare', but really they just dropped the ball big time.
Like I said, I didn't hate it, but with everything it had going for it, it should've been one of my favourite series ever.

I recall liking the miniseries but I also recall a feeling of letdown at the finale since it didn't seem to resolve much and it didn't seem like the kind of thing where you would get a followup. But then its been a year or so and I honestly can't remember how it ended anymore beyond the vague feeling of letdown.

I happened to see this series at my rental store recently and LOVED it. I accidentally rented the last three episodes though and then had to rent the first three.
Why aren't there more shows like this??? I loved it!

Carnivale isn't really the same as Lost Room though. Lost Room is a sci-fi advengture , Carnivale is more akin to a stephen king epic like the stand.

I regard both as fantasy stories. 'Lost Room' may be wearing a science fiction-shaped hat, but it's still a fantasy story at heart.
The fact that they want to throw some sort of pseudoscientific malarkey over the top doesn't stop it being a fantasy story about secret societies battling for ownership of magical items.

Yeah , but there was no "real" evil in Lost Room , just greedy people. Carnivale is a spawling battle between unlikely forces of good & evil. Like i said , Carnivale is like a stephen king novel , there are clear sides - one good , one evil and both drawn to one another.
