Anyone catch that Paltabor 1 & 2, & gunbuster all recently got released under the Honneamise (http://www.bandaivisual.us/honneamise.html) label by bandai visual? Been looking forward to seeing the second paltabor movie for some time now and gunbuster is simply a classic, it's great to have a proper release of gunbuster in my collection.

Paltabor is a ridculously underated series.

Yes. Yes it is. Now if only they'd finish releasing the TV series on DVD.

Agreed, have either of you seen gunbuster yet? It was Hideaki Anno's directorial debut so you can see alot of similarities to his other works like neon genesis evangelion. its great they released it because it seemed like it was very elusive unless you managed to import it, then you had to worry about the subtitles being right, i'm fully enjoying this series...

I think the last time I saw it was probably close to ten years ago, actually. Which is why I've been awaiting a DVD rerelease.

I think gunbuster *is* getting a DVD release isn't it? I saw the entire Patlabor (noticed a significant amount of mispelling it as Paltabor) tv series and the original OVA on International Channel. I think the continuation of the TV series (new files or something like that) is on DVD and I haven't gotten around to that yet.

I thought it was pretty damn good stuff. Mixed classic anime mecha with hard SF, and just a touch of Xena-level sexual subtext. For some reason, the last ep was in black and white, though.

Gunbuster is practically the prototype for Evangelion. All the main characters are basically the same. People who found Evangelion frustrating will probably like Gunbuster better, as it has a more traditional idea of plot(i.e. no going meta in the final half hour).

Gunbuster was pretty amazing. It was somewhat cheezy, but I liked it. Plus, yeah, it helped found Gainax.

It's Anno, what's there not to like? The guy's a f-ing genious, and I hate the way people abuse that word nowadays.

Yes Gunbuster was a pretty good ( short ) series , with a really interesting ending but, it does get a little tedious hearing Noriko Hidaka crying for 50% of the series! :p ( Has anyone but me ever noticed that her "love interest" "Smith Torren" seems to be named after Dark horse comics writer Torren Smith??? )
