As the title says, if you collect TPBs, what's on your xmas list from Marvel, and why?

- Trying to complete a series?
- Interested in a new Mini?
- Trying out a new ongoing?

Just thought it might make for interesting talk :)

I've actually tied most of the loose ends of the stories I'm reading already with TPBs so I'm pretty much just getting "Marvel: Essential" books.... and a lot of them. :D

For all of the reasons above I have trades on my list. Too many to really mention but I'd like to get the few Ultimate trades missing in my collection. Along with a few series I've been eyeing but haven't tried out yet.

My friend asked me what I wanted for X-Mas about a week ago. I emailed him my TPB wishlist. He emailed me back and told me which one on the list he bought me. Glad to know it was one of the ones I was thinking about buying next but at the same time he kind of spoiled the surprise.

Well I was thinking about getting some of Bendis' Daredevil TPs or most probably HCs. I started collecting the title when brubaker and Lark came in and I loved it, so now I want to dig the previous arcs. Any suggestion of which one I should get first?
I also wanted to get the Frank Miller's Daredevil Visionaries TPs but I think I'll better wait for the Omnibus in february.
There's also the New X-Men Omnibus...

Avengers Red Zone TPB (#65-70) - I love Olivier Coipel's art and want this so badly. Geoff Johns is great as well. Also it's got a fairly classic version of the team. I don't own too many comics of the classic Avengers.

Amazing Spider-Man vol. 10 New Avengers (#519-524) - I've got all the issues of JMS's run except for these so I'm looking to complete my collection.

I recently got into the Ed Brubaker Captain America series and am trying to collect it:
Captain America: Winter Soldier vol. 1 HC
Captain America: Red Menace vol. 1 TPB

Daredevil vol. 5-6 HC (Bendis/Maleev) - I also just started reading this, liked it, and want to collect it.

G.L.A. Misassembled vol. 1 - This was a great mini and I wanna support Dan Slott by buying it. Funny stuff. And I heart Squirrel Girl!

Glass houses, anyways Iron Man is the only Heroe's Reborn trade I might get. I am shocked you haven't read Runaways yet though I would recomend that you skip over to Spidergirl. Runaways is way to dark for you and is very anti Claremont. Exiles you are going to love its a different series in the early years. The FF omnibus I would skip volume 2 is coming out and that is the birth of modern comics (it features the first year long arc).

Also - do you all like the tpb or the hardcovers? what about the oversized hardcovers that are basically two tpbs together? a lot of the ultimate line gets those, I've been wondering if I should switch to that,

I like to get them cheap, but I'm not sure that the oversized hardcover is actually any cheaper than just buying the 2-3 tpbs. Also I'm concerned about if they would be too big for a normal sized bookshelf.

I always buy TPB over Hardcover because I like all of my books being the same.

The HCs I've seen are just slightly taller than a TPB. So shelf space shouldn't be to much of a problem.

I've only owned one hard cover that my LCS ordered for me by mistake. They thought it was a TPB when it was a hard cover. Out of respect for my LCS I decided to buy the book. It was priced at $25 but he gave it to me at cost so I payed around $16. When the book came out in TPB the price was $15. Going by that I doubt HC are much of a deal. Although, the over stuffed HC may be different. I've never done a price comparison with them.

I don't "collect" comics: I buy them and read them.

And it's not "Xmas", it's Christmas.

And oh God how annoying I sound. Sorry about that. Shutting up.

Well for X-Mas, I'll be sure to look into some trades I've had my eye on for a while. One that comes to mind is 'Avengers/Defenders War'.

I know it's probably a little early to look for 'Planet Hulk' on trade...not sure if the story is still ongoing, but if it is, I'll be chasing it as soon as it's over.

Well, as I started this thread, I guess I should post my list :)

I don't really collect Trades as a rule, but:

- NYX
- X-Factor 1 (Trying this series out)
- Ultimate Spider-Man 1 (Gonna start to read this series)
- Ultimate Spider-Man 2

I buy Paperbacks where I can, as I like them better, I find Hardbacks too heavy and annoying when I'm reading, lol. Same with Prose Hardbacks.

I'm waiting for Pride Of Baghdad in paperback.

I really want to get Avengers: Forever. Im gonna try to place special order from my LCS.

BTW: Avengers: Red Zone is really pretty to look at. A bit gory too, what with all the dead bodies and infected people.

A very timely thread, from my personal standpoint.

My Mom always gets me a gift card from Barnes & Nobles -- it's the gift I like best. Every year, I've used it for non-comics, but this year I want to spend it on trades. I figure I'll have about $75 or so.

So I've been looking at what's available and I'm having a heckuva time trying to figure out what I want.

I love "Fables" but I've read all the collections through my library. I don't want to blow my gift card on something I've already read.

I was a big fan of Gruenwald's "Squadron Supreme" two decades ago, but the more I read about today's Squadron, I don't think I'd really enjoy the Straczynski trades that much.

I'm thinking I might spring for the two volumes of Darwyn Cookie's "New Frontier," maybe the Legion of Super Heroes vol. 2, the trade of the Steranko Fury/Shield Issues, and maybe an Ultirmate Fantastic Four issue.

Then again, Mom might screw me over and give me an oven mitt instead.

Is the Mark Gruenwald "Squadron Supreme" 12-ish series worth reading? I totally dig the current Supreme Power version of the Squadron Supreme.

If you have a good LCS near you, check on the back-issue single copies first. I own a handful of TPBs, but whenever possible I buy the monthlies. They need our support!
