not quite as happy with it as you are.
the art is good. the dialogue is good. but the direction this is taking doesn't seem as interesting as I would have wanted. maybe it will suprise me--this is one of those 'first issues' that make it hard to see where the series is going. will this be a 'detective' style series (i.e. which bad guy or good guy is the killer?) or a revenge series? or a return-to-glory series? hard to say.
btw--this series' subject is oddly similar to 'living in infamy' --a recent series that I can't find the last 2-3 issues of.

I enjoyed it. If I was a hollywood producer I'd pitch it as Eureka! meets Top Ten. I don't think I've ever seen Neil Googe's art before, but I like it...although I think his noses need work. I'll be checking out the next issue.

I really respected this issue. The art was really bold and imaginative -- the whole thing oozed Pottery Barn and set an amazing tone. Similarly, I give Simone tremendous credit for the concept behind this -- the elderly must be the single most underrepresented population in the comic book industry, almost entirely unexplored. Yet this is how old the first Superheroes would be if they were still alive today.
However, I felt nothing for these characters. None of them interested me in any way. Gail usually writes really strong characters that feel amazingly real. I didn't get any of that in this issue. And the plot doesn't look too interesting either.
So I'm out. This isn't for me. I really respect it, but I didn't enjoy it.

I liked it. Not sure how long I'll keep getting it, but it was good enough for me to buy #2. Emot guy was great.

I liked it. I don't read Gen13 or BoP by Gail Simone (tried BoP for a couple of issues but just couldn't get it into it and wasn't my thing) so am not a huge fan of her other current work, but I really liked this.
It was funny, some nice little in-jokes and comedic touches and overall an interesting read. I'm intrigued enough to get the next couple of issues at least.

I liked it. While the superheroes weren't too deep I rather liked the police officer, which I assume was the intention.

While I enjoyed Neil Googe's art on MAJESTIC quite a bit, I was quite horrified by what this book looked like.....
Then again, Gail's writing it so it's basically good stuff at the core.
But man, I was taken aback by this art...!

Gail Simone once again adds another title to my pull. I really like Simone's writing...I hope she continues to do BoP and Gen13 alongside this title.

Just read the second issue last night. Favorite bit was the "cryptkeeper" shtick at the graveyard; that was hilarious. I really liked the opening bit with Mr. Articulate getting his Sherlock Holmes on (pity that he was killed off so early on, but maybe we'll get more of him in flashbacks) and the bar fight between the Mayor and the Sampson twins, too. This book reminds me of Top Ten in a way (albeit a retirement community version), and that's a very good thing. :D

The premise of this book, and Gail herself for that matter, is quite brilliant. I want to the ideas out of her brain and take them as my own. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
I'm happy to see Neil Googe doing more mainstream work stateside. I'm still hoping we'll see a conclusion to Bazooka Jules. But I'm loving Welcome To Tranquility. Gail's writing here is reminiscent of stuff like Deadpool/Agent X, and that's when I really started following her work. I don't mind her straight superhero stuff, but I'm more of a fan of her humor stuff, like this.
i'm really digging the first 2 issues. the artwork in some of the panels looks a bit off and did disrupt the flow for me. but i really like getting some backstory on the characters with the classic comic intros and zeke, the "crypt keeper" guy, is really great. awww a lovable zombie.
this is the first gail simone book i've ever read and so far i'm liking it. maybe i'll search the back issue long boxes for some more of her work.
i think this could be a great ongoing book once all the characters get a bit more developed.
