Wow, what an issue. It was much better than the first, imo. The issue starts off where the last one did, with her getting shot into a news stand. The thug she humiliated twice last issue is there, getting ready to beat her up while she's unconscious, and gets humiliated one more time. Oh, he has an alias of Edward V. Halen. Leaving him pantsed and stuck to an ad for the daily bugle, she heads to the roof tops and Iron Fist dressed as Daredevil meets her there, and talks, who she gives the nickname DD 2.0.
Taking her to her apartment, they discuss why she's going after Sano. DD thinks she's getting side tracked, and she tells him that Sano is hooked up with Chaeyi and the fake document scam. Talking to him, she figures out who is beneath the mask, or at least has a hunch of who it is.
Waking up the next day, to no injuries, and her costume completely restored she goes out on the prowl. Noticing this about herself, she wonders what's come over her. Going to I'm assuming Central Park, she busts up some yuppies and bikers with a drug deal, when she realizes she's late for her interview her friend from the bureau set up.
Sano is learning to box with his subordinates, he boxes with the guy who was pantsed earlier in the issue, and beats the crap out of him. Telling him he has one more chance, Sano takes a samurai sword and cuts off one of the thugs head off, then he leaves with the new Cobra.
Going to a club called Club Genosha(a club for former mutants to have a job), she's on her new job with her new assignment where she spots Sano dancing with one of the girls she guarding. Going up to interrupt them, she and he get into a kinda cool dance/fighting thing. Beating the crap out of Sano, she wonders how she can do what she's doing w/o wearing the amulets. As their leaving, her partner sees the new Cobra watching them from some thing which isn't very clear from the art.
Later that night, meeting DD and Spidey on a roof, they share some donuts, and spidey leaves the other two to talk. While talking, he fumbles his secret by releasing some info that only someone close to her family knows, and she calls him "tio"(spanish for Uncle), they drop down on Sano leaving another club, and they fight his goons together. As their back to back the fight is interrupted by the NYPD.
I really am loving this series more with each issue. Sure, there are some missteps here and there but this issue had a lot going for it. The art is getting better, and it mixes in lots of action with some good character moments. Overall, I'd give this a 8/10.

I agree with you Mariah. The series is really finding its own place in terms of the pace of story and its impact. For some reason reminds me sorta of a hybrid of Ramon Bachs and Brian Hitch in way, but the the movement in the action scenes is really done well by Briones, Hillsman, and Sotomayor. I love the way the panels are popping then dimming then popping again.
The scene where Sano decapitates that guy was awesome---who knew Marvel books could get a little violent realistic gore. It was a nice touch. Plus I like how Sano and Cobra play off of each other and White Tiger.
In terms of Cobra in that club, it looks to me like he's twisting up the column or something to that effect.
I am dropping the sequntialtart.com link because I think people should read that article for a good laugh regarding fanboy stereotypes. Plus it relates to White Tiger: http://www.sequentialtart.com/article.php?id=365

Ha,I like how she mentioned anatomical incorrectness so that both ass and tits can be seen at the same time. That's what I mean about the art in White Tiger being oldschool,it predates that sort of Image era crap.

I am waiting for a certain poster to come by, mention ho whe/she/it dislikes the book, then bash Bendis, and then whine to a mod to get the thread closed.
And yes, anatomical incorrectness that she points out in the article is hilarious!

Wait, so I don't have to constantly pose to show off my breasts and booty at the same time? Whew! What a sigh of relief.
My favorite part is all of the lil things they say, that no matter what class of latina/latino you are, you will say. The little droppings of Tia and Tio, and Puta and Puto make me cheer! Yay! 'RIcan pride here!

I am really, really enjoying this book. So much so, that last night while reading it, I started worrying about the fact that it is a mini....I want more of Angela.
GREAT book. I hope it does well.

Havent read it yet, but I most definitely will. White Tiger is one of the few Puerto Rican characters ever in any comic. Im glad the mantle was passed to his kick ass FBI niece and not just some pretty face.

I just came across this link and it speaks miles about why writers like Tamora Pierce need to be brought to comics Not only to write a great story involving a female but also to draw in a new kind of young reader. The comic book publishers need this just as our local comic shops do. The thing I don't understand is why Marvel and DC seem to consistently blow this issue. I mean where's the marketing and hype behind titles like this or do they figure girls only shop at bookstores, so screw trying to get them into hobby shops.

She has a pretty face. :p
I didn't like issue #1. It had that "I read this before" vibe to it. I'll read issue #2 to see if it's worth buying.

I can see how you feel that way. Did you think it was the way the was plotted or because it had too much backstory and explanations.
My thought on the profuse amount of background material in issue #1 is because the writer wanted to make the comic book accessible to her teen book audience, but perhaps that may have alienated the core comic book fan because there was too much grounding and not enough Easter Eggs for the core fan.
Or perhaps the story just did not do it for it you?
I did think the second issue had a great vibe to it and really started to cement the story in an intriguing manner.

The plotting did me in. The makeshift costume, deciding weather she should be a hero, should she follow in her uncle footsteps. The thought that popped into my head was "I remember reading this when it was called Spider-Man".

If you live in the middle of nowhere, in New York; check out info on the White Tiger signing.

Personally, I want to get stuff signed by the penciler Briones because the art is fierce.

I really like it, not really my kind of superhero story, but I really liked it anyway. Great job overall.

I'm digging it for the fighting. Along with Iron Fist, Heroes for Hire, and Daredevil, White Tiger combines street level action and martial arts together very well, as the artwork is very clean and understandable. I think a lot of artists and illustrators today have much trouble depicting martial arts action, but Phil Briones' pencils are pretty tight. Although I'm not Latino, I'm also digging Angela's subtle usage of Spanish. Makes me pine for the days of my high school Spanish class. :D

Did anyone else here notice the anti-abortion billboard in the background of issue #2? Interesting. Scan and text here (http://comicglutton.blogspot.com/2006/12/white-tiger-places-anti-abortion-ad.html).

I noticed it as well. I thought it was...funny. It kinda gave it a real world stance, as I see billboards like that all the time. Well, not exactly like that, but you know what I mean.

So I've been reading over the nets that many female comic fans are happy to have another female superhero title, and better yet, one that's written by a woman.
But (as the comic book glutton has pointed out) there seems to be an anti-abortion ad tucked into the background of one panel.
Thoughts, ladies?

i'm no lady but i think Bendis should be writing this book. Tamora Pierce's writing style seems more suited to something like Ms. Marvel. just my opinion. i'm not touching the abortion issue.
Pierce/Liebe are spinning an entertaining yarn as far as I'm concerned. I know the new White Tiger is only a limited series, but I sure hope they find a way to keep her around, I think a good foundation is being layed out for the character.
Loved the Krispy Kreme moment. Stand not between a superheroine and her munchies.
I just got into this series and I have to admit that I like it so far. I thought this was suppose to be an ongoing though?
It is a pity that it isn't. Hopefully there is enough interest in it to warrant an ongoing.
Hmm, to me the ad seems to be more of an anti-eugenics message than a general anti-abortion ad. The ad asks if a baby has less rights to be born because she's normal and not super powered. So perhaps there is a fringe of people that want a super powered child and will abort a fetus that isn't powered.
I think it's a nice attempt to extrapolate sci-fi happenings(super powered people) into real world issues like abortion and peoples' desire to have 'perfect' children.

I pretty much agree. The anti-abortion message was definitely clothed in the context of the fictional universe. And really, isn't that how all political messaging should be? Harmonious with the universe in which it's placed?
I think there's an argument to be made that this message in particular stuck out like a sore thumb, or like a college prof up on his hobby horse, but at least it's thought provoking.
Now the real question is, which of the two authors put that in the script? Or did the artist insert it at his own choice?

GREAT book. I hope it does well.
I thought the same thing too.
When the mini was intoduced I had no interest. But with the positve feed back and a few extra bucks on me I decided to pick up the issues. Glad I did.
I thought they did a good job of explaing the backgroud of the White Tiger and how Del Torro inherited the mantle without weighing down the whole story. One needs not to read past Daredevil issues to get a clue. Nicely done all around.

That would be an interesting storyline and I'd like to see it (selecting for superpowers mirrors selecting for male gender in places like India and China in the real world), but does it even make sense in the Marvel Universe?
In Marvel, most civilians seem to barely tolerate heroes and often even revile them. This is especially true now due to the Civil War explosion.
So I can't see a large enough group actually wanting their kids to have superpowers to warrant a billboard.
Anyway, the billboard's meaning is certainly ambiguous and confusing, but the eugenics angle doesn't make sense in the context of the Marvel Universe.
